The most important thing to know about George is that he does not give A's, so whatever you do, DON'T TAKE HIM FOR LAB AND LECTURE. Work hard in lecture, and you can get an A. He doesn't really teach, he gives you the assignment and tells you what's wrong after you've already started (and sometimes finished) the project. His sense of humor and strange life lessons help to lighten the lost feelings that couples enrollment in 101.

Professor Jercich seems like a really cool guy. But the fact that he showed up to class at least 15 minutes late every day, never really gave us clear instructions for any of our assignments, and didn't even bother to stay in the classroom for the entire class, does not speak well of him. He is very approachable, so if you need clarification on an assignment, talking to him about it is never a problem, but even then his explanations are often nearly unintelligible. My main bit of advice for taking this class (3 dimensional design) is to stick religiously to the directions. I did, and I did fairly well, but I had a few friends who were studio art majors and did more with each project than what was assigned, and got dinged for it. Instead of grading projects based on aesthetic appeal and effort, he has a list of things he looks for, and if your project does not have those things, you will not do well, even if your project is objectively much better than everyone else's. For our sphere project, for instance, I pretty much did exactly what he told us to and made this crappy little cardboard thing that was held together at the ends by masking tape, and I got an 11/12. One of my friends really went all out and designed this beautiful project that was, at least in my opinion, way beyond what anybody else did... and she got a D-.

what can i say about george... well he does give you an idea of how he wants projects to be... some of them are absolutely pointless and dont work like he wants them to (like the metamorphis project)he is way critical and point problems out during the critique instead of during class like he should since he walks around and checks on you the whole time... the lamp project was awesome though... but a little too technical and focused on electricity rather than the design...lectures are boring and you want to sleep...dont buy the book... you really dont need it

The class for the most part was fun. You don't have to be an expert or anything, but don't expect to get an A either. Projects aren't worth too much, but that's what makes it difficult to get an A. Just have fun with it and do the best you can.

if you hate art like i do, DON'T TAKE THIS CLASS! it is so frustrating, i thought it would be a fun hands-on class, but its not! he doesn't instruct you on the things you should do until you have finished and then he tells you what you did wrong after you can't do anyhting about it. lecture is difficult because the book is so hard to understand, he doesn't tell you what you need to know in lecture for the tests, and the questions are so specific. geroge has a wierd sense of humor and i laughed at him all quarter but the lab is still VERY VERY frustrating!

His grading is really nit-picky and a few of the projects are frusrating. But this is the best art elective out there. So fuck y'all who say bad tings. Lets see you take fucking music appreciation, bitches. Get a worse grade in that shit than this class. ANyways, George is a funny fuck. So take this class and stop your bitching

I thought he was fun to be around and a very friendly guy. The lectures were kind of boring...but it is art. He walked around during lab and fixes your problems...so as long as you "care about his opinion" and realize that HE is the one grading your projects then you're good to go. If you think your was is better than his then get ready for a bad grade. guys: this class was awesome because I was 1 of 4 guys in a 32 person class. good vibes. good times.

During this entire quarter all I could think about was how this professor reminded me of that small little dog that runs through the back of scene 23 in The Incredibles by Pixar. Seriously, if you look it up you will only be able to see it...

George. You learn. You laugh. It's good. He knows what he's doing, both in art and life. We should all be so lucky.

You have to understand that George is a glassblower, its what he loves. As far as art goes he is very smart and recognizes good art for what it is. He wants you to think about what and why you are doing what you are doing and when he grades you he looks at your idea and your form. He is very approachable and will answer any questions you can ask. Sometimes he will lose himself in one of his stories but I'm sure all true artists would. All in all its not impossible to get an A its just a matter of communication and effort. He is a great teacher.
