First off, such confusing class. She says that you will take quizzes the first class of every week but they happen spontaneously with little warning. Also, some quizzes she puts on PolyLearn but gives you a short time to do them with once again, little to no warning. She also gives out multiple worksheets over the course of the quarter, but only some are turned in and some are not. Then, the worksheets are labeled identically on PolyLearn, but are not the ones that can be turned in, adding to the confusion. Finally, even taking the online quizzes (they have a 15 minute timer as well) with the lectures and Google open, the answers are hard to find and even the CORRECT ones from her lecture are WRONG on the quiz. Basically you have to pay attention a ton to this class, otherwise you will get swamped in the material and miss all the due dates, but it's hard because while she is a very smart geologist and very interested in her field, her enthusiasm is lost on most of the class. Also good luck on the midterms, the averages are about a 75 (normal) but the practice midterms and study guides contain about 60% of the material that you're actually tested on. All in all she's a nice lady, and wants to help you, but good luck.

If you think you can take this class with her and just slide by think again. Her lectures are long and boring. The online homework assignments are hard. The worksheets she gives you for each section are hard to find answers for, and she is not very nice about helping. If you miss an in class activity but get it from someone else in class she wont give you credit for being a responsible student so you should probably go to every class. Her tests are really hard. Some of the hardest I have ever taken at Poly. Basically this class is awful and if you can avoid it you should. I made the mistake of taking it my last quarter at Poly before graduation when all I wanted to do was hang out with my friends and go to the beach so this class was a real pain. Im sure she is a great field geologist and all but that doesn't translate into a good teacher.

This class seems easy at first, but Prof. S. doesn't make a good teacher at all. Her lectures are confusing and include way too much information for anyone to handle and her quizzes and midterms are so out-of-this-world that none of the questions directly relate to what she taught or what is in the book. I read every chapter she assigned and still couldn't understand the test questions. She claims that geology is extremely easy to interpret, but maybe only for her.

This guy is a dick, Called me out for not stapling my paper. Avoid this guy at all costs.
