Animal Nutrition can be a very difficult and boring subject to understand. Dr. J is very enthusiastic about animal nutrition and would love to have every one of his students leave his class at the end of the term being able to teach the course. Dr. J is very knowledgable in many aspects of the dairy industry. He makes what could be a very hard class easy by presenting a well prepared PowerPoint presentation for his lectures. He is funny inside and outside of the calssroom environment. He is very flexible about office hours and is willing to help. If you want to learn Ruminant or Monogastric nutrition I highly recommend you take his class.

DR JASTER IS AN AWESOME TEACHER. I DON'T COME FROMA DAIRY BACKGROUND AND NUTRITION ISN'T THE MOST EXCITING CLASS BUT HE PRESENTS THE MATERIAL SO YOU CAN UNDERSTAND. HE GIVES THREE TESTS AND A FINAL AND YOU CAN DROP ONE. HE IS VERY PERSONABLE AND CARES A LOT FOR THE STUDENTS. I WOULD DEFINATLEY TAKE HIM AGAIN.

Dr J is one of the nicest people I have ever met. He does the best job possible explaining nutrition to everyone and he has cool power point presentations that make everything much more interesting. Also, a HUGE plus, he sold a copy of the power point thing so note taking was at a minimum. He gives 4 tests, including the final, and you can drop the lowest. How does it get better than that? Just make sure that you start on the lab homework early, as sometimes it can get pretty complicated. However he is very nice about sitting down and explaining it to you.

LOVE Dr. J. This class was easy for me but I have had several other nutrition classes at Poly before. I could see if you had no background in nutrition this would be a difficult class - in that case I gave Dr. J a poor score for being able to recognize this is a 100 level class and it does not need to be so detailed about the CHO and protein structure. You need the same book that you needed for ASCI 220 - you can just photocopy the pages you need or borrow it from a friend you don\'t need to buy the whole book it doesn\'t help that much. Overall really fun class, pay attention and go to most classes and you should do fine. The midterms aren\'t too bad, and he has random attendance quizzes - mostly if he notices a lot of people are gone. The midterms are easy if you study your notes and think about the things he spent the most amount of time talking about - those are the biggest sections on the test. Dr. J is super knowledgeable and wants to see you succeed. Great class!

Jaster is awesome. I was told to take him and not Daugherty. Good advice. The labs are fun and informative, and you turn in a lab report for points. You give a presentation in the lab as well. There are 2 midterms, and if you are pleased with the grade you have going into the final then you don't have to take it. He does powerpoint lectures and the manual that you buy has them all in it. It's very easy to follow. I would recommend reviewing the information though because it's a lot to intake. The midterms are cake, though. Multiple choice.

I had a mid-range B by the end of the quarter but went to his office hours before the optional final (one of those "can only help your grade" tests) and got a priceless study guide of what would be on the exam. Everything was crystal clear and with an hour of intense studying, I walked with an A in the class! He very honestly wants students to succeed. Very nice man too, reminds me of Mr. Rogers. Can you believe he invited the entire class to his church for free pancakes and doughnuts during finals week?

I really liked Mr. Jaster he was funny and easy to talk to about the class. The labs were nice because he gives you a hand out to use on your tests and that was really nice. I liked his class a lot.

Amazing class & amazing teacher. I had him for DSCI301 too. Also an amazing class. Dr. J is the way to go all around. Especially if you're terrified of Daugherty (sp?). Dr. J is one of the nicest professors at Poly. And quite frankly, I dont think he knows how to fail anyone. DEFINETLY take this class.

Dr. Jaster was great - he is soooo excited about cows that he makes the classes and labs very interesting, even if you would usually care less. Sometimes his lectures are sort of confusing, but just ask him questions and he will always do his best to answer them. Labs are great - he only keeps you there long enough to make sure you have all of the necessary information to do the work, and then you are free; labs averaged 1.5 hours. The tests are easy, as long as you study the powerpoint presentations. He gives you everything you need to know for the exams - no tricks or surprises. I would recommend taking him for all the nutrition classes.

Very nice man. Willing to stay after class to help or even just chat. Knows his stuff and is always making a funny little diagram or something to help explain stuff. If you want a good teacher that makes stuff very easy to understand, take Dr. J.

Dr. Jaster is one of the finest teachers that I had ever had at Cal Poly. He is very knowledgable in the subject of nutrition. He is always available during his office hours or any other time a student may need him. He provides excellent notes and his exams are very fair. He is always willing to work with you. He take teaching very seriously, but can still be a lot of fun in class. I would take all of my classes with him if I could. I highly reccomend him as a teacher. He is the best!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I've had a bunch of classes with Dr. "J" and have enjoyed all of them. He's extremely enthusiastic about the material, and he is very approachable when you ask him questions during office hours. He's probably the friendliest professor you'll ever have. Dr. J rocks!

Dr. J is the best teacher that I have had at poly! He is one of the nicest guys that i know, and he is always willing to help you out whenever you need it if he is not already too busy. All of his power point notes for this class are in one big book so it is really easy to look over notes. His tests are multiple choice scan tron. Overall...Dr. J is an AWESOME teacher, and i suggest that if you have to take any DSCI class, you take Dr. J. Also, if you have to take ASCI 220, take it from Dr. J if you want your life to be easier.

Dr. J is one of my favorite teachers at Poly. I also took his 101 class and once again he not only presented the material clearly, but is always willing to help the students even those who ask the "stupidest" question (ei why is that cow jumping on the other one) He laughs and jokes with the studentsand is the best combination of friend/teacher possible. Maybe friend isn't the right word. Mentor would be better. I recommend all of his classes he's a great guy!

Dr. J is the best teacher I have ever had. He is willing to help you out nomatter what it takes. He has real world experience in Dairying, making for funny stories and a realistic outlook on things. He has his views on certain aspects of dairying, but does not push those on his students. To me that's important. I would recommend any of Dr. J's classes to anybody. Especially a student that thinks milk just comes from the jug in the fridge.

He is a great teacher. He is very ienthusiastic about all of his classes and is willing to help students whenever needed. This class was one of the best dairy science class I have taken. There are no tests or quizes it is like a seminar class. We had two scheduled guest speakers that where very informative. We got to go to a dairy calf facility and see how their opperation was ran. Then, on the same field trip we got to go to the World Ag expo in Turlok. I would diffinently recommend this class to anyone who likes to learn about how to raise healthy calves wheather it is dairy calves or beef calves.

I learned that if I were to take up hunting, I should shoot deer, not bears, because a bear will hunt me back if I successfully wound it. Fascinating! I didnt know that the key to production and operations management was so brutally simple!
