wow this is an easy class. prof. jacobson is a nice guy. he gets really excited about the material and he wears great shirts. all assignments are done in class and the lowest test grade is dropped, which for some can mean no final. pretty easy.

He is such a great teacher, always smiling, and always ready to answer questions. Highly recommend.

This guy is awesome. He really knows how to have a good time especially in a chem class. Yes, most of the material is pretty basic, but i really enjoyed this guys class. He gives simple hw assignments and the tests are bad at all. He can make you laugh if you like dry humor. O yeah, this guy wears the greatest shirts in the world, so look for them.

I think that Professor Jacobson was a pretty funny professor. you can tell that he deeply loves what he does by how excited he gets when he talks about the most boring topics. I never really understood his lectures, but the handouts and practice tests were really helpful. I also had him for lab, and even though i have heard that he is the harder of the two lab professors, it really wasn't that bad. he is a really nice man who is willing to help, and as long as you have taken high school chemistry, you will do fine.

This class is pretty sraight forward. If you read his handouts you should be fine. He is a nice guy but a little weird. He does a lot of experiments and we watch videos. He does not explain the material very well at all. But, the tests are pretty easy. You have 4 short tests (50 points each) and then a final. He lets you drop your lowest of the 4 tests. (everyone has to take the final) He gives you practice tests before the real ones, and it is exactly the same as the real tests. I mean, he uses the same questions just changes the numbers. You don't have to even go to class that much, as long as you read the handouts and do the worksheets your fine. Basically, you dont even have to go to class that much to get a good grade. Oh yeah and he curves our grades at the end.

Jacobson is a nice guy. The only thing is that he can't teach worth anything. His lectures are hard to follow and he often wanders from the subject and into something about Star Trek or how his niece gets beat up or something weird like that. We had Dr. Simek for lab and he is a way better teacher then Jacobson. I think we learned more from Simek in lab then we did from Jacobson. Half the class doesn't even bother to go to Jacobson's lectures since they are pretty usless compared to if you spent that time reading the book. He's also very paranoid and had everybody wear their hats backward on a test in fear that someone wrote notes on the bill of their hat...uh....yeah...nevermind that we DO have graphing calculators... =/ Final note, nice guy, bad teacher, probably best taking someone else.

Jacobson was pretty good, but a little boring. He lectures at the beginning of each lab and most of the time it isnt relevant or helpful to the day. That aside, his quizzes are pretty easy and he does explain things pretty well when you ask him one on one rather than when he is lecturing. His major downfall is that he curves your grades so that you actually do worse; for instance, instead of a 90 you could receive an 85 if some of the class did better than you on a quiz. It sucks, but overall he is understanding when you address a problem and willing to help you out with the labs if you have trouble.

i loved this class and this professor. the material was clearly presented, and understanable. the lectures were laid back, rather interesting, and made easy to follow with hand outs. jacobson rocks.

Dr. Jacobson is an average instructor. He does give a huge amount of handouts during the quarter, and most of the information you are tested on comes right off of these. He does grade by the tenth of a point. You could get 4.3/5 on a quiz. At first I complained about it, but then I figured out it works out to your advantage. Even if you don't know the answer to a question just write anything reasonable and you will get at least half of a point. He can sometimes be moody and not very willing to answer specific questions you ask about a test but if you bug him enough he will tell you. You have three midterms and a final and 7 quizzes every week you don't have a midterm. You can drop your lowest two quizzes AND a midterm or half of the final. The quizzes are not that bad pretty easy as long as you have come to class that whole week you will be ok.

If you are a female and taking this class then you will do fine. I am and I am doing fine in this class. If you are male you will be constantly ripped a new a** hole in lab. A female student can ask him any question, no matter how insignificant to the lab and he will answer it without hesitation. A male student can ask a question that is pertinent to the lab and will be verbally abused by Dr. J. He is not afraid to yell at students. When I say yell, I mean you can hear him down the hall and then some.Do not take him at if you want a teacher that respects his/her students.

Jacobsen's lectures are worthless. I have no idea what is going on. Lab is pretty easy, and he grades quizes, labs and homework VERY

Jacobson no doubt knows his material. And gives all sorts of real-life applications for Biochemistry. He also returns homework and tests very promptly (usually the next meeting), and offers reviews prior to exams along with study guides. But I gave him a bad grade because his lectures are so incredibly scattered and useless that the only point in going is to pick up his handouts. Real-life examples are great, but that's all he does- all day every day. He doesn't teach you anything. I'm really lost, and it's only week 3. He grades pretty easy so far, just plan on learning everything from the book. I don't think I've taken more than two pages of notes in 7 lectures.

The best thing about Jacobson's class is that if you know somebody that will pick up the handouts, there's no need to go to class. His lectures are absolutely worthless. I don't think there's a single person in the class that has a clue what he's talking about- ever. There's no use taking notes. Or even being awake for that matter.

I have not learned anything of value in this class. For tests, all I do is memorize random facts and an equation or two. But I have no idea what any have to do with each other. I have no idea how they apply to anything. I can sit through a 70 minute lecture, and not take a single note. The class is hard, and it should be easy. Evey day I leave his class uterly confused, and depressed. I have one more quarter of college left, and I find myself saying is it really worth it? Jumping from the 5th floor of the library might be the easiest way out.

Jacobson reminds me of a nice, old, grandpa very knowledgable in his subject matter. Yes he has a hard time getting his brain and intellect into the students, but he really wasn't a bad teacher. Just figure out how he tests, do everything he suggests, pay attention to his handouts (I never wrote any notes, they were all on the handouts), and study, study, study! I worked my butt off in this class but it pays off! I learned so much info that was interesting and I will be able to use later on in life. He's a good old man, who has a smile on his face all the time. Make use of his office hours by the way...it paid off in the end! All I can say is he's probably one of the better Biochem teachers here so take him.

Dr. Jacobson is a pretty good professor, although I think he might be retiring soon. Well I haven't had another Biochem class to compare it to, but I think this one is ridiculously easy. Study the handouts and you will do fine. No need to buy or read the book. You should go to class and take notes on the handouts, if only because sometimes he eliminates material from them. He does curve a little bit: midterms are worth 50 points each, although you can score up to about a 52 plus there's about 2 points in extra credit. As I recall, 44/50 counted as an A-. The most annoying part is the tedious worksheets and several page long internet reports you have to do. Lab is also a joke if you've had Chem 127 and HE DOESN'T MAKE YOU COPY THE PROCEDURE INTO YOUR LAB MANUAL, which makes him the best lab instructor ever. He drops your lowest midterm or "half the final", which I found annoying because I had an A going into the final, couldn't he have just dropped the whole thing. In conclusion, his lectures are interesting because he goes off on tangents and take him if you can because it's quite easy. P.S. He chimes in with random political messages, mainly Bush bashing, and talks about the TV shows CSI and Survivor, which he loves.

I liked him a lot. Focused on many health aspects of biochemistry, not just specifics of metabolism with a lot of memorization. Very interesting. Tests easy to do well on because he has a "sample quiz packet" available that contains tests from previous quarters, and the questions are very similar. cool shirts too.

OK, I have nothing against Jacobson at all. He's a really nice guy and obviously BRILLIANT but he's so scattered that you can't follow any of his lectures. He gives handouts that are just a jumble of random info. You can try to go by the text but it's way more complicated than his tests which are actually fairly simple. We had 2 tests plus the final and there was a short essay to write. Molecular bio is an interesting class but his lectures made it excruciating at times.

He is compleetly disorganized. Even his handouts are disorganized. He often comes to class without his notes or handouts. When he is prepared his lectures still wander all over the map. Be prepared to learn more about England, his hip, his family, etc. then about molecular biology. I think he may have been knowledgeable about the subject at one time, but he's getting old and as his brain has deffinately started to slip.

STAY AWAY!!!! try to avoid this class at all costs. If you want to actually learn something about molecular biology take BIO 351, it counts for the same requirement and you will actually learn. If you can't get out of it, go to class and grab the handouts and then leave or bring some other work to do. Paying attention to his lecture is just impossible because there is no clarity or order. His tests are super easy and come straight from material on his handouts but you will probably need to the book to explain what the hell his handouts are trying to say. He seems like a nice old man, but he really should not be teaching such a crucial major class.

Dr. Jacobson grading policies are outdated and impossible to keep track of. He will assign a report and you will give it back with a grade of 17.53 out of 20. Be warned he has a temper and is not bothered by taking out his frustration on you or the entire class. He is tough and I recommend to those who want to do well in this class must do all work on time, go to his office hours, and kiss up. He loves brown nosers. I recommend taking another Professor for this course. This course is important for those in Biochemistry. Do your best to get the most up to date Professor. Jacobson is definately out of touch with the industry.

To start off with this class is great. Mostly it is the students that are teaching the class and not Dr. J. When there aren't students signed up to teach Dr. J will teach the lecture for the day. His lectures were good and the quizes easy. There is one paper but if you choose a good topic, which there is an endless supply of topics, the paper is easy to write. Dr. J is an easy grader for the paper. The final was easy and you didn't have to study too much, just be able to remember what people had talked about. I would take this class again and I recommend it to others.
