I worked ridiculously hard in this class to pull of my grade and put tons of work in the lab as well. Yeung was the worst teacher i've ever had in my life. Her test were really unfair and all the questions she asked on them were basically trick questions. I learned nothing from her lectures since she presented the material too quickly to even attempt to comprehend, not that her explanations of the material even made sense anyways. Also I could not understand a word she said because of her accent. Shes just one of those teachers who makes class difficult just because she enjoys doing that, and she acts as if her class is the only class that her students take. The lab portion for this class is even worse than the lecture. It full of hours and hours of useless frustrating busywork.

Dr. Yeung was a decent professor, definitely not the best professor I had but not the worst either. She moves rather fast in lecture so I would highly suggest printing out the slides. Reading the book can help clarify the concepts that she breezed over quickly. Basically you'll be fine if you memorize her slides for the test and read the book for whatever doesn't make sense.

Professor Yeung was the sweetest lady. She went back and changed homework scores if she had not gone over the material in class at the point it was due, if you asked her to, which was nice. Instead of midterms or exams, she had four "quizzams", which was a quiz-like test every 2 weeks. (I much preferred that over 2 major exams in which you have to cram so much more material.) I didn't read the textbook as much as I did in previous BIO courses because it is more dependent on her lecture slides, which I'd recommend you print out.

Dr. Yeung truly is a very sweet lady, and is very understanding of personal student difficulties, but not so much when it comes to academic ones. She teaches directly off her PolyLearn-available slides, which is nice, as she adds information to what is already on the slides. Her tests, or "quizzams" are somewhat tricky, other times very straightforward. It altogether varies by question. She as an individual is incredibly intelligent, but the language barrier does pose a slight struggle to understand the lectures and material clearly. Overall she's a good professor, but if possible, I'd take another if you can.

I dont understand why there are so many complainers out there bitching. Dr. Yeung isn't a terrible professor. She lectures off slides and if you read the book it will enhance your understanding even more. Maybe her tests were more challenging in the past, but so far, our class has maintained high averages on the tests. They aren't that bad. If you do the HW online, inclass assignments, read the book and take good notes, your fine. Plus your allowed notecards to use on the test. So to all of those complainers out there you probably didn't keep up with the class and didn't take it seriously.

Dr. Yeung is a very sweet lady, however I do not think she understands how to teach and evaluate a college course. Although her english is sometimes broken (there are often grammar errors on exams), she makes her point and can be understood. Her lectures are interesting and she is clearly brilliant, however she tends to jump around - I found the book much more helpful as far as the layout and organization of material. I do not have a problem with Dr. Yeung as a person, she was always helpful during office hours and flexible to student schedules, however her exams are what I have a problem with. The exams are based on trivial minor details rather than overall concepts. For a lower division course, she fails to educate students on the important, applicable concepts and instead tests on memorization of details. In this day and age, you can look up little details on the internet in under 30 seconds. I worked significantly harder in this class than I did in other upper division biology classes and learned substantially less. Students who did not understand anything but happened to write down tons of little details could have gotten As on the final. I think Dr. Yeung needs to seriously reevaluate her testing strategies and focus the class on larger concepts so that students actually learn something valuable from the education they are paying for.

Dr. Yeung may have a sweet side to her but the majority of the time she isn't the friendliest and she is definitely not a good professor. She has a major accent which makes listening to her in class very difficult. Especially because she has a strict "no technology" policy so you have to hand write all your notes. She posts slides and printing them out is somewhat helpful but she goes through them really fast and most of the stuff she SAYS is what is on the test so you have to be really listening and writing things down fast. The language barrier is also a problem because her tests are worded weird.. and not grammatically correct, so they were hard to understand at times. The class consists of 40% lab, 60% lecture. The lecture has 6 quizzes (1 dropped), 2 midterms, homework assignments and a final. The quizzes are really really specific but the midterms aren't too bad if you study and read the textbook. some of the homework consist of making up quiz questions and apparently she uses them on the quizzes but they questions were pretty hard so i have a feeling she just makes them herself. The final is ridiculously hard. She let us use a piece of paper on the final but it was so hard that the paper wouldn't even help because so much questions contain material we didn't even discuss. She will throw a few extra credit opportunities in there once and a while but its usually only a point every now and then. The sad thing about this class is that I felt like I really studied, but I never actually learned much. After 10 weeks of micro, I feel like i learned a ton in lab but not too much in lecture, due to the professor's fault. I went to office hours a few times and dr. yeung failed to help me primarily due to the fact that she couldn't understand what i was asking. It is extremely hard to get an A in this class and you have to work hard to get a B. I did well in the class because I got a B in the lecture and an A in the lab, and i think she curved the lecture like 3% at the end. Be prepared to work hard and not get much help from this professor.

I enjoyed Dr. Yeung's class. She was an okay lecturer, some complicated things were not very clear and some simple things were over-emphasized but over all she was fine. Her tests were tough but fair and her quizzes were deceptively difficult (but the students made the questions so can't really complain about that). Also, her accent was funny, albeit sometimes difficult to understand- the way she pronounced mosquito was my favorite thing ever.

Dr. Yeung was not the most amazing professor I have had at Cal Poly but she does try. Her accent makes it difficult to understand but it prompts you to listen carefully to what she is saying, so it is not a really big issue (if you can't understand her just ask her to write it on the board)she does recognize that her quizzes are difficult and offers extra credit and allowed us to use a note card on our second midterm and a full sheet of paper (back to back) for our final examine. It wasn't always clear what she wanted us to emphasize our studies on but given that we had so much to cover it is understandable as to why it wasn't always clear. I do think she should slow down a bit on lecture notes.

Based on Dr. Yeung's past ratings, I'd argue that they are out of date and she has changed quite a bit since they were written. I really enjoyed having her as a professor, and although the accent and occasional language barrier exist, I do not feel they inhibited my ability to learn the material and get good grades on her exams. Everything is based entirely on the lecture and what she says, and printing out her lecture slides, which she highly encourages, allows you enough time to write everything down that you need as long as you are paying attention. This quarter the class was graded on 3 quizzes, 1 midterm, a final, and weekly online homework assignments and other easy in class assignments. You get to use a note card on the midterm and 2 on the final, which is super helpful. Her grading is fair, and her exams and quizzes aren't difficult if you pay attention in lecture and take notes on what she says. She isn't the best professor I've ever had, but she is a very sweet, funny, and caring lady. If you don't understand something or miss something she talks about in class, she is very helpful in office hours. I wouldn't avoid taking a class because she's the professor, because she's really not that bad, but if there are better looking options, obviously try for those first.

Yeung’s tests are unreasonably hard. She tests on every single thing she’s ever said even once. This has been one of the most stressful classes I’ve taken at cal poly just because of the sheer amount of information and you have no idea what you’ll be tested on. I’d avoid her if I could do it all again.

Dr. Yeung's class is unreasonably hard. She makes you learn WAY more than other sections and when you ask her what to focus on for tests she just says "everything" which is really frustrating. Don't take her class unless you have a ton of spare time and are interested in learning every single teeny tiny detail in the book.

Dr. Yeung is such a sweet lady and taught this course really well. I've seen some people complaining about her accent, which is stupid because she speaks great English and always helps clarify what she means if you don't quite understand her. She is lenient about deadlines and always is totally okay with scheduling makeup quizzes/exams, but still conveys complex information and makes sure everyone understands. Yeah, her quizzes and tests can be challenging but if you study the information a few days ahead of time then you'll be fine. It's mostly just memorization anyway

Po is a sweet lady and you can tell she wants her students to do well and she tries hard to make it work! That being said microbiology as a subject has so much information and so many details to memorize, and I personally think she did a good job making it as understandable as possible. Yes, there is a huge work load but only because the subject is a hard subject. Her tests and quizzes are basically all powerpoint based, so pay attention to her slides and you should make it out okay!

The worst class I've ever taken at Cal Poly. Also the HARDEST final in my life!! Dr. Yeung is a nice person, but when it comes to writing tests and teaching, she's the worst. The midterm was take home and fairly easy but don't let that deceive you, the final was in class and open note but it took the full three hours and no one finished it. All of her questions were "which one is mismatched?" "Which one is false/true?" And all the answers were long sentences and of course options D and E are "all the above" and "none of the above". There's no way you can study for the tests because the questions are written so badly that you have to scan through all of your notes just to find the answer for one question. She also bring her own personal speaker to class so people can hear her but she doesn't even need it, in fact, it makes things worse, you can't understand a word she says when she uses it! Overall, terrible class! Didn't touch on any food micro stuff I wanted to learn about. THE WORST CLASS!!! AVOID IT IF POSSIBLE, OTHERWISE.... GOOD LUCK!!!

Dr. Yeung was very knowledgable about the topic and extremely helpful in office hours and in lab. She is a nice person who is willing to help you if you ask for it. However, this is the hardest final I have taken in my life! It took 3 hours and almost every student was still in the class after the three hours were up. It was open note, computer, and internet but it was still so difficult. She can also be tricky in the way she asks questions on the open note quizzes, so beware of that as well. Some of the class topics were interesting but I did not expect it to be so focused on pathogens near the end of the course and was hoping to learn more about food. Prepare for the presentations, be organized for the quizzes, pay attention in class, and be extremely organized for the final (remember to understand eveything in lab because it will all be on the final). If you do all of that and work hard, you should do well. Good luck!

I learned absolutely nothing in this class. I can't understand what she is saying and then she jumps around her slides and topics sending students on a complete whirlwind. She is never clear on assignment expectations or how you will be evaluated on a test or exam. After the first exam came back I saw that I had been marked down in every little thing possible and there was no talking to her to try and get some points back. She had to offer a retake for the entire class because the averages was so low. I'm so disappointed in this class and her ability to communicate microbiology with students. It's a completely unfair course that sets students up to fail with how heavily everything is weighted instead of actually teaching the students what they need to know.
