Heather Starnes, an absolute legend. I've never met her in real life but she was the chillest lady I've ever met over email. They don't make em like her anymore. If you need to take a GE, take this class. Kinda a lot of work but its not bad.

Very rarely lectures herself and they are all pointless. Assigns pointless homework. Expects too much on the tests. Fuck Starnes

Don't buy the book it is a waste of money the lectures are copy and pasted straight from the book. Assigns about 6 papers that are just busy work. 3 tests each with 50 multiple choice. Lots of participation questions through TopHat which was the main reason anyone ever went to class. On the bright side she did let us out of class at least 15 minutes early.

Very understanding teacher, would work around any problems and gave a lot of examples. If you pay attention to the lecture slides (or even just go over the material before each test) you will do fine. There are about 10% of questions pulled from the book, bu you can do fine without it. Gave a lot of opportunity for extra credit and was helpful in emails and office hours.

This is an online course that is super informative and will definitely help if you want to learn medical terms and body systems. Starnes was a great professor who would always email us before deadlines with reminders and with important information. Since this is an online class, it is majorly self paced and a lot of work. I almost regretted taking it a few times considering how much work it was and being a credit/no credit. We have a discussion for each section of chapters and each section of chapters has online work that is due by a deadline. For example, chapters 1-3 in 3 weeks and chapters 4-11 in another 3 weeks and so on and so forth. Each chapter has a list of assignments needed to be completed by the deadline. The list includes things like guided lecture, self-guided lecture (with required questions), dynamic study modules, diagram labeling, med term speak and spell, and spelling. Plus there is a quiz at the end of each chapter. The midterms are fairly easy if you study the material and know what you are doing and the discussion questions are not too bad either. Overall, this is a great class to take if you want to become more informed about medical terminology, but it is a lot of work.

Dr. Starnes is a great professor. She is nice and understanding and presents the information in a very straightforward way. She takes attendance, so going to class is important, but in my opinion that was no hardship because the class was really interesting. There are assigned reading assignments that go into more depth on the topics covered in class. There are 2 midterms, a couple reading quizzes, a research paper/presentation, and a final. I definitely recommend taking this class!

This class needs to be completely reworked, the lab and lecture are pretty much two entirely separate classes. the lecture is boring and the information presented is confusing, then you take the test and are supposed to be able to apply the information you don't understand to oddly specific life situations. The lab is just ridiculous. have fun writing a paper that takes most grad students years to write in 10 weeks then have the teacher grade the crap out of it while simultaneously demoralizing you. good luck with this class, have fun in hell.

Dr. Starnes' introduction to research methods class really helped me with my honors senior project. The outline that was due as the final for the class was a great starting point for being able to complete my study the following quarter. Dr. Starnes was also my honors senior project advisor and helped me get my senior project study into a research convention where I presented my study. Dr. Starnes is very helpful as a project advisor and if you go to class and do the assignments her class and the tests are super manageable.

Dr. Starnes is a great professor! This course is unlike any other KINE course, so it can be difficult to get used to the material. However, if you keep up with the classwork, attend lecture, take good notes, and ask questions you will enjoy the class. Research may not be for everyone, however you can learn a lot from this course. If you are confused, just talk to Dr. Starnes, she is really approachable and knowledgeable about the research field. Just ask QUESTIONS and you will gain a lot from this class!

Take Dr. Starnes class, she is awesome. While research may not be everyone's cup of tea, she presents the information in a manageable way that will actually allow you to learn the information. If you don't get it the first time, just go talk to Dr. Starnes she will help you get it right. Plus there is extra credit!
