Dr Inchausti was by far one of the best teachers I have had at this university. He gets involved with the students personally and wants to help everyone. He always is able to get the students talking in class, and sometimes he can inspire arguments between them. His essays are fun (if one can be), and his tests are not very hard. I would recommend him to anyone who has the chance to take him.

Dr. Inchausti is an extremely interesting lecturer, with lots of funny stories that relate the literature to modern day problems. You learn the material and can actually use what you learn. This class teaches American history as well as literature. His grading policy is very fair-he makes it virtually impossible to not do well in his class. He could be a little better about getting the students to talk in class, but when you do talk, he doesn't make you feel stupid. I highly recommend his class.

He is an amazing teacher. He made me laugh with all his historical impressions, even at 8am. You must take this teacher. He is interesting, passionate, and fair. Each week you have assingned readings and quizzes, but he tells you the quiz comprehensive questions beforehand and goes over all the readings in his lectures. The miderm was 5 idetifing short answer questions and a 4 page paper. The final was the same, but in class. This class is based on simple reading and original unique thoughts. If you do the reading and listen to the lectures you are going to get a B or above.

Inchausti is seriosly the best! He never assigns too much reading, and he alawys gives you all possible midterm/final questions before the tests. As long as you go to class on the days that he does "discussion starters" and you bring up a lot of authors in each of your 3 essays, you will get an A. He is a very easy grader. I would definitely reccomend him without a doubt.

I definitely recommend Professor Inchausti for ME 240. The class itself was actually very interesting, and I enjoyed most of the stories we had to read. I'd already read most of the greek stuff that students seem to want to (re)take, so I figured I'd give this a shot and learn something new, and it was pretty fun. Inchausti himself is excellent. While class discussion was kept to a minimum, he did cover most of the ideas pretty well. Reading amount was not too bad, either.

Okay, first off I hate writing and reading, but Robert is one of the best Professors at Cal Poly. His way of relating to the 20th novel is aw inspiring. All I can say about Dr. Inchausti is well, he's very interesting, even at 8 in the morning because he's very humorous! All the readings for this class were so interesting and fun to read. As long as you keep up on the readings that he assigns every week, you should be okay, even though they may seem really long. He also assigns short paragraphs about each of the readings each week. He gives you the essay questions for each midterm ahead of time, and also for the final. For the first midterm, he gave us three questions to prepare for, and you had to write on one for the midterm. For the second midterm, he gave us five questions, with one to write on. So, as long as you know most of them well, you have a chance of at least one of the questions that you know really well to be on the midterm or final. (So you don't waste time doing all of them!) I usually detest English, but this is one English class that I really enjoyed.

He was okay as a professor. I thought the his grading was somewhat fair. The only thing that bothered me was that he would collect the homework at the end of class, so most people would just do it during class after he went over his interpretations. He was also arrogant but in an entertainig way.

Dr. I is a good teacher. The books were fairly interesting and he has a good sense of humor. The class is made up of 2 midterms, a final, and inclass quizzes each worth 25% of your grade. He gives you 5 essay prompts before each essay test so that you can prepare for them and then 3 are chosen for the test and you are required to write on 1. He is good with answering student difficulties and is very approachable. Overall I would recommened Dr. I for any literature class.

Mr. Inchausti was a great teacher! Before going into this class I was dreading it. I am a science and math kind of person who doesn't like literature especially poetry. But he opened my eyes to it and made me really appreciate and enjoy it. He really had examples to go with our lives to relate to the stories or poetry that we read. We only have three tests. He would give us like 6 or 7 questions before the test and he would pick 3 or 4 of them to be on the exam. I would recommend him to anyone!!!!

There was one thing about his class, if you sit in the back you get all your homework done for other classes sense their is no point in listening to his meaningless lecture. You do need to go to this class though because he gives pop quizzes on readings, but after the quiz feel free to sleep because that is the only way to get through his lectures. This class was really easy though, we read probably 15-20 pages a night(that is if you actually do them, which isnt always necessary) Then he gives you test questions ahead of time so all you have to do is take a few hours to prep for the essay test, and that is that. Basically, this guy is extremely boring but as far as a literature class goes i dont think it gets much easier, take him!

I continuously thought about inflicting some type of injury to myself so that like a wounded soldier, I would be medevaced from my desk to mental safety. The continuous masochistic tendencies were derived from Inchausti's daily routine of sitting Indian style on his desk while attempting to regale us with his less than interesting interpretations of the selected literature for 1 hour and 45 minutes straight. All of this could have been triggered by my distaste for the categorical initiative professor Inchausti took on defining the broad writings. The class is easy... just don't expect much interaction. Robert, if you get to read this, please include more class participation. Me and my fellow non-English majors would like to get more out of the class than to only hear you speak.

Inchausti is one of the best professors I've had at Poly! He gets the student interested in the material and relates it to us in a modern context. The class was set up with reading being due every tuesday and new reading being assigned every thursday. This was the Great Books III: Modern Literature class, so there was a lot of reading and a lot of discussing of the reading. There were three essay exams. Two of them were midterms and the third one was the final. The reading was hard to keep up with at times and we did have reading quizes ever so often, but he would usually tell us what the question on the quiz was going to be the class before the quiz. Much of the reading was novels and poems. I have never really liked poetry, but Inchausti made it interesting for me. His explanations of the material really cleared up questions and made the students see the beauty and the worth of the work. Much of the reading was hard and didn't fully make sense, but he helped to make it enjoyable. He doesn't write much on the chalkboard, he just speaks to the class. His class is pretty relaxed and even a little bit fun at times. He is a very intelligent professor and explains things very well, but he isn't arrogant and makes all the students feel at home. He used real world examples to get students to understand the material. Some of the material was a few hundred years old, and he related the material to us with modern examples. He also always had some humor in his lectures, which really helped relax the mood in the class. He is very funny and his friendly demeanor helped students to feel comfortable and learn in a relaxed environment. His lectures were pretty interesting and he brought a real deep understanding of the material to class and easily passed this understanding along to his students. We usually got out of class early everyday, which was great. His tests were fairly difficult, but not too bad. He would give us seven questions to write on and then he would choose four. This way, if you studied four, then one would have to be on the test. The essay questions would want you to tie in different points about the different readings into one collective idea or a few parallel ideas. He was always prepared for each class and was an excellent teacher.

So I took him at 8AM Mon-Thurs during summer. As you can guess the class wasn't very awake and lively at this time, but he managed to keep it interesting. I felt bad because he always made jokes and no one laughed because we were all half asleep. He always tried to get some participation but it just wasn't happening, so instead of being an ass and calling on random people he would just explain the material to us very thouroughly. I would suggest taking him in the summer for a 5 week session because I found it very easy. A few in-class essays that we could prepare notes for, so based off reading sparknotes I got A's on every essay. I'm just lazy and don't like to read, but the books we read didn't seem to horrible. Pretty down to earth guy. I'm not a fan of old literature, but Professor Inchausti was able to keep me motivated about the stuff. He's well spoken and very laid back; I was constantly late for class, but the guy didn't get bothered by it. With that said, he grades very generously in that he respects the opinions of his students, though it's important that you reiterate the concepts he shares in lecture. TAKE THIS CLASS!!! Inchausti is easily one of my favorite professors at Cal Poly, he picks great books for you to read and while they may be a bit challenging, he explains everything in class. He literally walks into class, takes his coat off, sits on the desk up front and starts talking. Normally that would be really boring to me but this guy knows what he\'s talking about and makes everything funny and relative. Best class ever. The only thing I guess is that your grade is based off one midterm and one final, which is nice in that you don\'t have any huge papers to write...but sometimes it\'s easier to convey that you know the information through essays instead of multiple choice exams. He only did multiple choice exams this quarter because the class was so big. Either way, take this class!!!

Robert Inchausti is kind, willing to help, and entertaining. He sits cross-legged on his desk as he lectures, comparing contemporary pop culture to the books you read. Class can at times be boring, due to the lack of discussion. Inchausti attempts to create discussion, but I was in a morning class. The class was fairly easy. Although there were weekly readings, none of them were extremely long or terribly difficult. I'd recommend this class as a GE. A piece of advice that he consistently mentions throughout the quarter, and that I wish I had followed earlier in the quarter, is that he does not try to trick you with his multiple choice questions! On the midterms and during the quizzes, I constantly found myself second-guessing and over-analyzing the answer. His questions are very straightforward, and so are the answers. If you did the readings and an answer sounds right, it most likely is. Keep this in mind, and you will do well!

It would have been nice if he had bothered to learn our names beyond "C" in the alphabet (from the roll sheet.) This was tough to have at 8AM, b/c he would sit on the table and talk at us, and there were about 3 people in this class that loved to hear themselves talk, and it became a dialogue between them, instead of involving the whole class. Seriously such a nice guy that just loves his subject. I took this for my GWR, if you need a GWR class, take this! The class is 6 books, 3 essays. You read two books, then he gives you 5 or 6 essay prompts a week or so ahead of time, then has you write on one of the prompts the day of the midterm/essay. Basically he doesnt care what you thought of the book, just convey that you actually got something from them, read some of it thoughtfully and explain how you felt about it, and you'll do great. Some of my essays i left thinking, that was such a bunch of BS, but i got an A, just for being well spoken. I didn't read a single book, just parts and excerpts. One girl in the class was behind in her other classes and he let her wait 3 WEEKS to take his midterm/essay til she got caught up. sooo nice. Take it. Inchausti is the bomb - take him. I was afraid of this class because I hadn't written anything in over a year. But that didn't really matter as long as you know how to throw together a decent essay. 5 paragraphs, decent size, and you're good. And we covered 6 books like The Color Purple, Brave New World, etc. Inchausti really wants you to think and write in your essays how you feel. To be honest, I never read any of the books either and just off of online notes and his lecture you'll be fine. He had us start off the quarter with a sample essay for the writing lab (not graded), then 3, 100pt, essays (one is your take-home final.) Oh and there are random reading quizzes so go to every lecture. But you can easily pass them because he says take the quiz, now ask your friend what they put. Literally. But those quizzes are important because although you don't get any points for them, he uses them for attendance and will subtract points at the end of the quarter. He goes over poems in detail and is open to any questions. He has nice stories to tell in class, though he only tells them rarelly. He kept me wide awake in 253, but 351 was more boring. He gives out copies of the questions he'll have on tests in advance, so it's easy to plan ahead (I had entire essays ready so I could just pick which one to write on). Very thoughtful, speaks well in class, wonderful at putting things together, making a larger picture, extreamly creative in his assignments. That said, I dont really think I learned much. And for a seminar class, he had about 25 people, far too many. It was another lecture class instead of discussion. I was ready to have a seminar on the Beats, but did not feel sufficently challenged. I noticed that alot of his ratings come from non majors, and with this considered, I can see why he would appeal to the non major. However, if you are expecting a bit of a challenge, you are going to have to do it yourself. The reading and the matierals are intersting, but there is only so much one can do as a student. Over all, not a bad teacher, not at all. Just... something amiss.

This class is what you make of it. Dr. Inchausti is very passionate about what he teaches. The difference between a 200 level course and a 400 level course is that for 200 level courses, he needs to give quizzes to make sure you\'re doing the readings (and if you\'re attending class). For our 400 level course, there were no quizzes, and there was no roll-call because we were all there because we wanted to be there. We read because we WANTED to read, and we attended class because lectures were fascinating. Inchausti knows his material and presents it in a way that makes it contemporary. Love him.

Prof. I. is great. I am embarrassed to admit that I spent the first three weeks of the quarter thinking that this guy was completely wasting my time. Shame on me for not realizing sooner than I did that this would be one of the most valuable classes I've taken at Cal Poly. Why? Because, unlike the majority of fantastic professors at CP, he's a Real Teacher. What does that mean? It means that he recognizes the fact that WE are the ones who have chosen to get an education-- and he leaves the responsibility of learning up to us. He isn't up there trying to get people to participate or to listen because that's OUR job-- not his. He's not a motivational speaker, which I think is often what our entertainment-saturated generation has come to expect. His kind of teaching allows the people who truly want to learn to explore ideas that matter to them without the pressure of worrying about "what's going to be on the test." He wants to help people learn to THINK, not to memorize stupid details that will be forgotten in three days anyway. If you really want to explore what YOU think about a text, take this professor. He'll tell you what his ideas are, but if you raise your hand and contribute, he'll actually integrate your opinions into his conversation (lecture is the wrong word here) as if they actually counted for something. Inchausti also tells great stories-- I wish he did it more often. He has a way of relating a story that doesn't really in itself explain the text the class is talking about, but when you're confused by the reading and he tells a story that could be about something totally different, you find that somehow it suddenly makes sense. Also, it may seem like he's just sitting up there and rambling to himself, but he really is watching the class closely. If you raise your hand, he'll stop immediately and let you talk-- that's what he's waiting for. He basically just throws out ideas until it clicks with someone else. And really, isn't that what learning is? Oh-- also, when it seems like he's making a joke, he is. Go ahead and laugh. For some reason I and the girl sitting next to me were the only people in the classroom who were laughing our heads off at his humor, and the fact that everyone else just seemed confused got a little awkward after a while.
