Easy class and Yun really knows GIS. You'll gain a lot of applicable skills and an easy A.

Pay attention in classes when he goes over the Arcmap exercises and ask questions if you fall behind so you do not get lost. On the midterm and final pay close attention to the written portion as most of the people in this class did extremely poor on this section. The other assignments are generally easy if you put in the effort. Make the power point look nice because i guess he thought that was the most important part of the project.

Yun is a good teacher, if somewhat hard to understand due to his accent. He is very clear with his explanations and expectations and is extremely good about addressing any questions you might have. The class itself is not difficult.

David Yun is kind and cares a lot about his students. He realizes that his accent is difficult to understand and does his best. If you go to class and practice once a week outside of class you will get an easy A in this class. You always get out of class early. I really did not want to take this class and it turned out to be incredibly useful. I would happily take Yun again.

Do not dread this class! I heard lots of negatives about him and the class before taking it and honestly, I had no reason to worry. Yun is a super nice guy. Yes, he can be difficult to understand sometimes but it's not awful. He offers generous extra credit and I can not emphasize enough how important it is to take advantage of those opportunities. He doesn't give + or - grades and doesn't round, so the extra credit is the buffer you might need at the end. This class is not a super easy A, but it's definitely possible. Study for the midterms and final! The study guide he gives you is a major hint for the test. If you know the basic map skills and have memorized the terms, you'll be fine.

I was very nervous about this class to begin with because Yun is definitely a little bit difficult to understand with his accent. However, you get used to it really quickly and I didn't find myself struggling to follow very often. The class is basically entirely learning to use ArcMap which I found a little frustrating to begin with, but once you get more comfortable with the software it all comes very naturally and easily. The most rough part about this class for me were the written portions of the quizzes/exams. Imagine your textbook being an instruction manual, and then being tested on the exact wording of that instruction manual. It's just very difficult to define certain things that seem so arbitrary and simple (like "data" or "GPS" etc.) but Yun is looking for very specific answers straight from the online "textbook". However, I did pretty poorly on these parts of the tests and still managed to get an A in the class by knowing the program and being able to produce maps. Overall, the class wasn't terrible and as long as you put in some effort, you'll be fine.

Yun is a really nice guy and wants us to appreciate GIS and know that it's a really useful technology to use. At first, I had a really tough time understanding him because his voice/accent is really difficult to understand (I would definitely say this is the hardest part of the class), but you'll get used to it. Basically he merges the lecture and the lab together and for the lecture portion goes over some "lecture" material which is tough to understand but that only lasts 15-30 min and then he goes straight into the lab portion which is him demonstrating a process on the screen and everyone follows. He does a really good job on this and what he demonstrates ends up being really cool, but at times he goes too fast but don't be afraid to ask him to redo it because he does a really good job at simplifying these processes. These labs take forever though and it's a drag to be in the lab the whole time but it was only twice a week and plus every time, he would let us out 0.5-1.5 hours early which was clutch. He gives out two quizzes which are pretty easy. The first midterm has short answer and then a section where you complete a process (or two) that was demonstrated in lab before and there's questions you answer on that part that you can only answer by going through the process correctly. The hard part is the short answer (highly recommend going through the "homework" which you never turn in and readings he posts because thats literally what it's on) and the demonstration part is easy especially if you go to every class. He also has us do a mockup midterm the class period before a midterm which is really helpful. Theres a final which isnt too bad, literally just like the past midterms. Near the end of the course he gives out two projects, which is kinda sudden but the group one is kinda difficult at first but eventually it gets easier.

Professor Yun is an excellent teacher. He was always willing to spend extra time explaining concepts and he is a fair grader. I really learned a lot in this class.

Dr. Yun is a little bit difficult to understand, due to his accent, but he really knows GIS! He's always got the projector up, showing you exactly what he's doing, and if you get stuck, he'll always stop and help you work through it. You're almost always out early, so you can approach him after class as well and he'll help you with course-relevant stuff, or outside GIS projects as well. The projects at the end of the quarter are tough, however - the quality of your presentation plays a huge part in your grade, more than the caliber of your maps. Professionalism is key in all work you do for Yun's class, and the presentations are no exception. Study the day before the tests and don't screw around in class and you're golden.

Like the previous person wrote, professor Yun is difficult to understand but he does have a T.A. which is very helpful when you get lost during a lesson. I really did enjoy GIS and I would recommend it to anyone- definitely a good skill to have/ arcmap is a good program to know. This class specifically was broken down by: 2 quizzes, 1 midterm, 1 final, 1 group project, and 1 individual project. Note that these are all practical tests on the computer and the midterm and final HAVE A WRITTEN PORTION (many people in my class specifically didn't quite catch that and it was worth 50 points). None of these were too difficult as long as you understand the basics of what you learn in class. I got 100% on both of my projects and they certainly weren't anything special/ above and beyond so I get the feeling Yun doesn't grade very hard. This class is 7 hours a week- you will almost always be out after 2 hours. Anyway, great class and if you pay attention pretty easy to get an A.

god awful professor. can't understand him, he has to wear a microphone in a class of 20. your midterm will take at least eight hours and will cover things that you have never learned. all the things he does teach in class are a rehash o what you've already learned in NR 218. extremely disappointing in wasting a free elective on this class, i wish prof. surfleet taught this class instead.

This is a great class, not because of Yun but because you get to learn cool new things in ArcMap and work on a real world project for a client. Yun is a nice, funny guy and definitely knows how to use GIS but like everyone else has mentioned he is difficult to understand but you follow along on the computer anyway so it's not a huge issue. He is also a pretty fair grader, the instructions for the midterm and final were ambiguous but as long as you are within the ballpark you will receive an A.
