I think that Erika did a very good job considering this was her first time ever teaching a college course. We had three main essays (a profile essay, a persuasive essay, and a project that further develops either of your previous essays) that accounted for 86% of our grade, along with other small writing assignments and in-class participation. I don't think that anyone in my class was an English major, and sometimes it seemed like Erika forgot that we were only taking the class because we had to, not because any of us actually loves writing. I think she graded somewhat harshly considering we aren't trying to become writers. Most of class was spent discussing small reading assignments, learning about literary techniques and grammar, or peer editing. It was often boring, but it was only an hour-long class. She was very sweet and understanding, and extremely helpful during office hours. I'd recommend her (although you should share the textbooks with someone else because they're really expensive and you hardly use some of them).

I had the privilege of having Erika as my english professor my first quarter of college and because of this class, I had an awesome start to college. She's extremely approachable if you have any questions, she likes to use Youtube videos and group discussions to teach us concepts, she takes the time to memorize each student's name in the class, and I felt the most comfortable with the class and my fellow classmates because of it. There were 3 major papers we did in the class and she was super flexible with what subject you chose. It was her first year teaching a college class and she's done a far better job than some of my other professors who have been teaching for years. If you get the chance, take english with her!! I HIGHLY recommend it.
