As my only professor with out a P.h.d this quarter Alicia was easily the most intelligent and most educated. Despite this being her first quarter, she taught as though she had a lifetime of experience. Alicia rarely lectured but instead provided us with new hands on activities almost every day. There were no mid-terms but she gave a "pop-test" to make sure we were doing the reading. She is enthusiastic about the class and loves to meet with students (in office hours or on her free time) to revise their papers. If you are taking ENGL 134 you want to take it from Alicia.

Alicia was a good teacher and that was because you can tell that she loves to teach. At times in the class I was overwhelmed because it felt like we were doing 3 essays at once but in the end it wasnt as hard as it seemed. She had us prepare our final essay early in the quarter which helped a lot at the end when there were other finals going on. The class activities were fun and she always let the class out early. I thought I deserved an A but oh well the class was fun at least.

Moretti is awesome, and I would definitely recommend her to anyone. She has a variety of fun and creative in-class activities that keep the students interested. She accepts re-writes at any time of the quarter, so you can always try to get a better grade on a paper. If I take another English class, I will be looking for her again.

There is some busy work but not a lot. She is understanding and cares about her students which is amazing. At the end of the quarter you have the chance to edit all your papers (I believe there is only 4) for a better grade! Easy class! Nice lady!

Alicia is an amazing teacher! She is so good at actually getting involved with her students, really caring about the work. No tests, just an optional final and 3 essays. It's truly her intent that no one be stressed about grades and just focus on writing and thats how it works out. I totally recommend it.

Alicia is a great professor, she's straightforward and makes her points very clear. There is a good amount of busy work that can affect your grade more than you think. However, DO NOT get on her bad side. If you slip up once she'll hate you for the rest of the year and she will not forget. I accidentally left a headphone in without music playing and she marked me down for being unprofessional and was cold to me for the rest of the quarter. She's a very intelligent professor and gets to the point but isn't very kind.

Moretti is a great professor. She has activities that engages the students and gains their attention. She is also very helpful in her office hours and explains how you can improve your writing. I learned many new techniques in improving my writing and enjoyed the class. Also my major is not English so do not think this review is from an English major, meaning i am not the best at writing. If you can take this class with Moretti, You will not regret it.

Alicia was exactly what I had hoped a college professor would be like; kind, helpful, and informative. She genuinely cares about her students and works with students personally if you ever have trouble in class. She will look over your essays before they are due to help identity any problems and wants her students to succeed. The class is hard work but she makes it manageable and is extremely approachable if you ever have problems in or out of the class.

Alicia is awesome! She is probably the best English teacher I've ever had. She's open to listening and getting to know her students. She's also very understanding, so if anything comes up, just feel free to talk to her. You do three essays in the quarter and she gives you lots of time with it. She tries her best to do one-on-ones with you so you can present the best paper possible. I definitely recommend her, especially if English isn't your best subject.

Alicia is a really nice professor, however, when you go to her with a question for an essay I didn't find her very helpful because her responses tended to be more surface level and telling you the problem than helping you solve it which is hard when you aren't an extremely strong writer. Also, the Writing Center is something that she recommends, but if you have problems with grammar you should go because they check that, but they don't help you write your essay and make sure it's strength which is something that Alicia expects from you even though it's a beginner English. There is one quiz on grammar which everyone failed except for a few people and there are five essays all on different topics. Overall, not a totally stressful class, but you do the homework and she only collected it twice which made the effort you put in seem pointless.

I had Moretti for Intro Linguistics and she was great. I was a little nervous the first week, because she was making the class sound tough, but it wasn't. The class was quite easy--a lot of that had to do with the fact that she was a good teacher and I found the material really interesting. I do wish that she would tie in the reading into her lectures, rather than the "you're accountable for knowing everything from the reading, and then I'm going to talk about other stuff not from the book during lectures" method. I personally like the class style where you have reading assignments, and then the in-class lecture clarifies and expands on the reading material. But all in all, it was an enjoyable, interesting class for which I got a somewhat easy A in.

Alicia is a very nice professor. But overall this class was by far the hardest class I've taken at cal poly being an English major. This class is super frustrating and demanding and in order to really understand the material you have to retain everything she says in lectures. she goes super fast in lectures and needs to slow it down like really really slow it down especially since everyone feels so lost already. Her grading is uniques 3 tests that are 2 part consisting of short answers definitions and diagrams and an short essay portion. You have the choice to choose if you want the short answers/definitions to be graded or essay to be graded or both together. Whichever you feel you did best on at the end of the test you circle part1 100% part2 100% or 50/50. Honestly I found the best option is to choose the essay to be graded by itself. Defiantly increases your points in her grading. A lot of people who choose short answers/definitions/diagrams were super disappointed in their grade when choosing this option. and honestly don't have to really focus on retaining the chapters from the book they don't really help and there's nothing on the test from the book. Make sure you give her options for test questions and essay questions she usually puts them on the test. She really designs the test to your favor. You also have a cheat sheet that ranges from 1-2 pages front and back you get to use.

The most demanding professor I've ever had, and the best. If you don't understand something, just go to office hours. She cares, is incredibly understanding, and wants you to do well.

I got by this class, but man I never really knew how to please this woman. The topic is interesting and I appreciate how intrigued she is in all of the research, but sometimes the lectures can be a little dry and she has to beg for participation and enjoyment from the students. Could easily be because it's an 8am and she doesn't allowed coffee in the class... but that's besides the point. Definitely at least skim the reading for this class and pay attention to the vocabulary terms and back of the chapter review and questions. Any multiple choice questions on her exams are pulled directly from those review questions so I just made Quizlets of all the questions and answers (easy because they're also provided for you). The most annoying this about Moretti is that she is very particular with answers. She marked me down for being too specific at times, or one time for writing the letter "a" as the little o with a tail (that might not make sense... but it will once you get to phonetics). You get a note card cheat sheet for every exam and she drops your lowest test score which is nice. The in-class labs are an easy way of getting good points as long as your descriptive, include an ending reflection, and I would recommend typing it so it shows you put a lot of work into it. She also tends to end class early which is also cool because you can finally get that coffee you've been craving. I'm fairly positive she is the only professor that teaches this course so you don't have much of an option but to take her. She doesn't suck, just wasn't my favorite.

Alicia was amazing at clarifying material and understanding student difficulties. She makes lectures very interesting as well The class is definitely challenging and her expectations are pretty high, but she is very fair. Definitely do the reading and prepare well for your partner presentation and final paper and all the rest will come to you. I HIGHLY recommend taking Alicia as a professor for any class she teaches.

Moretti was a really good teacher. She is funny, nice, and really tries to get to know each student. She clearly cares about her students' success. The material is a little difficult to grasp, but she is always willing to help. Her tests are fairly easy, too. She is a very fair professor and I highly recommend her.

Alicia is wonderfully personable and very passionate about Linguistics. She presents a lot of really interesting examples and topics and encourages discussion to make sure that everyone understands. No matter what, she will adjust the course to make sure it meets students level of understanding and area of interest. This is amazing and all professors should adopt a system like this. I could say countless wonderful things about her. The work load for the class is extremely manageable. Just do the reading. It is not that hard. Tests will be made based on questions suggested by students. She really does a great job of making sure students are tested on what they know and what they are interested in.

English is not my favorite subject so I went into this class not expecting to love it. The material was super interesting but I wasn't super fond of Alicia. I liked her until I saw my first participation and homework grades. She doesn't tell you this but you have to click on all the links she posts because they are "homework". She is also not very nice about participation grades, participate and you won't get 100%, almost as if she doesn't want your participation. She is super strict about technology, coffee, and talking to classmates during class, even if its relevant to the class. She seems annoyed most of the time when you ask a clarification question. That being said her first test was easy and the second one much harder. There is a lot of reading that she assigns and she has a few pop quizzes. The class is however passable without reading. There are two midterms, readings, and a final 8-10 page research paper. This class is a required liberal studies class and she is the only professor. Just make sure to get on her good side and you'll be fine. Its an easy B and an A if you work super hard.

I. LOVE. HER. Because of Alicia and this class, I'm getting a linguistics minor. She is so so knowledgable and genuinely cares about your success in the class. She is so willing to help and guide you in the right direction. She wants you to do well and take something out of the course that you can apply to your life and career goals. You have a lot of freedom on tests--you can select which parts of the exam you want her to grade (i.e. just the multiple choice part vs. just the written part, or equally grade both). Exams are a mix of student input and her lecture outlines, but if you do the readings and take good notes you will be just fine. This was a required class for me, but I genuinely think everyone should take it.

I was really looking forward to taking this course as I was hoping to learn more about teaching children to read as I want to be a kindergarten teacher. I am not only extremely disappointed in the course (I have learned nothing) but also extremely disappointed in cal poly for even hiring Alicia. She clearly did not want to be there and teaching was not even close to her priority. First, she took weeks to give us a very vague syllabus that she doesn’t even follow. Second, she was late to class every other period and cancelled 4 classes (out of 20 classes this is a lot). When she didn’t cancel class she let us out an hour early. This was nice except for the fact that I pay a ton of money to go here and would like my money back. Third, she wrongfully accused half the class of plagiarism because she could. Fourth, she took weeks to grade “mastery tasks” and would fail you and then say that she will be nice and bump you up since it took her so long to grade. Fifth, she has a bunch of links to hour long videos or lengthily PDFs that are “homework” but she doesn’t tell you that and then you get a 0 for homework grade which is 10%. She does not take her job seriously and cal poly needs to let go and hire someone who knows what they’re doing and actually wants to be there. I would have loved to learn how to teach kids to read and about various learning disabilities but we didn’t learn a thing. She literally winged every class that she actually had and it was super clear. Long story short, DONT TAKE THIS CLASS. Or better yet, Cal Poly should hire someone who actually cares (id like my money back too while they’re at it)

Alicia is nice and passionate but it was clear that she did not want to be there nor did she plan much of her lessons. We watched a lot of lengthy videos in class and she would let us out an hour early. She is nit picky and does not want you to succeed. There are no rubrics for her three "mastery tasks" and you pretty much do whatever you want for them and then she tells you how much she loves your ideas/rough draft and then fails your final draft. She did accuse a good chunk of the class of plagiarism when they did not plagiarize and by the end of the quarter most people despised her. She must have gotten the hint because she cancelled the last week of class after already cancelling two or three other lectures. She was also late most days and let us out early. She maybe showed up about half the time overall. Long story short, don't take her class. You wont learn anything and she'll just drive you up the wall.

I learned that if I were to take up hunting, I should shoot deer, not bears, because a bear will hunt me back if I successfully wound it. Fascinating! I didnt know that the key to production and operations management was so brutally simple!
