Livingston co-taught ASCI 112 with Noland and was clearly the weaker teacher. Her concentration is poultry and she gave us irrelivent info on chickens constantly. She didn't know the answer to a lot of basic questions that students asked. Her and Noland clearly didn't communicate about the midterms either becasue Noland would say a topic wasn't too important, and then the next class Livingston would say that the same topic was a large part of the midterm. She also assigned us a 200 question group quiz halfway through the quarter that ended up being about 1,600 questions because each question had at least 8 parts to it, to to top it all off this quiz was due the day before a midterm and was only worth 50 points. It was an insane amount of busy work and my group and I wanted to die after the 9 hours we spent doing it. Overall, Livingston is somewhat knowledgeable but needs to learn how to teach and communicate with her students and co-teachers.

I had Livingston for 220 lab and she has no clue what she was talking about. Most of the time she explicitly says "I really don't know where these numbers are coming from" (when doing nutritional calculations). She has not graded or returned any of the lab quizzes after students asking for them back repeatedly. She always has an excuse. She also does not answer back any emails. I suggest picking someone else for 220 lab.

I also had Kim for ASCI 112, and although she was clearly the weaker of the two teachers, once I got to know her I found that she was really not as "bad" (conversation wise) or quiet as she seemed to be in lecture. I think she was/is working on getting her bearings at teaching at a college level. If you take the time, you'll find that she's nice, helpful, and downright funny. Really, go to her office hours and take an enterprise led by Kim. I did, and it was worth it. 112 was tough, but the enterprise was so laid back. BABY QUAIL.

Fine teacher, but a little dry in the presentation. I wouldnt suggest having her at 8:00 in the morning, might be difficult staying awake.

Worst ASCI course I've had at my 3 years at Poly. Where to start.... The lectures are painful. Dry, confusing, dreadful. The information presented on slides makes no sense, and her attempt at explaining them is super confusing. Tests are unfair, you are tested on material that she never went over, or went over for a split second without explaining. Takes forever to get things graded. Doesn't respond to emails. No enthusiasm, didn't seem extremely knowledgeable in the subject matter. Avoid this class for your nutrition requirement, it's terrible.

DOESNT KNOW HOW TO TEACH. Not enthusiastic about her classes, makes it ridiculously impossible to want to listen. expects you to know everything, talks to you like your a PHD student and assumes you already know everything. Ridiculously detailed powerpoint slides that she depends on because she doesn;t know how to teach material out of her brain. Expects you know know details of ridiculous unimoprtant numbers. STOP SAYING UHM. cant wait to get out of this class.

Honestly, the worst professor I've had at Poly. She doesn't present material clearly and has unrealistic expectations of the class. I think she likes to pretend she's a nutrition graduate professor at a research university. On a lighter note, the class focuses on swine and poultry nutrition. There are two midterms, a final, and a scientific review paper. In lab we did a diet experiment with chicks and then did presentations on it. I really wanted to enjoy this class going into it but, Livingston's teaching style made me dread this class every week.

Worst professor I've had at Cal Poly. Two midterms and one cumulative final, weekly quizzes and a research paper. Livingston has ridiculous expectations for her lack of teaching. You won't do well on exams unless you study outside of her confusing, dry, and boring lectures. There is no outside materials to study, like a textbook, so you're screwed from the start. This is by far the worst class I've ever taken and I regret ever signing up for it. AVOID LIVINGSTON! She's beyond awful. Don't expect her to respond to emails or attend office hours because she doesn't. So unprofessional.

She claims to "talk to you like you're her fellow PHD" but that is a load of crap. Her lectures are boring and she recites everything word for word from her slides, which are so long you can't write anything down in the 20 seconds she talks about it and quite unorganized. People in my class were often confused and asked questions and her response more often than not was "I don't know" or "I don't remember." I'm sure she is very highly educated but her teaching skills are sub-par and she can't explain half the stuff she is supposed to be teaching us. Besides the two midterms and final, a large part of our grade consisted of a review paper. She openly admitted to grading the papers more easily after having more wine/getting bored of reading them. She seems like a nice lady but she has too high of expectations and very poor teaching skills.

Dr. Livingston is a new PHD professor who really knows a lot about chickens. Her lecture maybe is boring at times but I like how she ask students question during lectures. It really makes you think. This is a upper division unit class so I expect it to be a little bit challenging than the intro class. Her test questions are fair but I didn't like how detail she wanted her answers. I failed one of her midterm and I thought I would get a bad grade overall. Deep down, she really wants all her students to pass. I ended up with a B. She's nice during office hours and likes to hear what students think of the class so far. She's really trying to be a teacher. Overall, students should really get to know her. I taken multiple classes with her and I enjoyed it.

I loved taking this class with Dr. Livingston. She co-taught it the quarter i took her, which i will get to later. Anyways, the break down of the class is : 2 exams, a cumulative finals, weekly quizzes and a research paper. the first 3rd of the class was your BASIC biochem i.e. what is the structure of a sugar/CHO, protein and fat, stuff you learn in ASCI 220. her exams are more than just multiple choice and t/f, she wants you to apply what you learned. the second exam was done by the other teacher. the paper was not an outrageous assignment. i freaked out the entire time and got an A on it. the final was all multiple choice and relatively easy. OVERALL its nto that hard of a class. dont let the other comments scare you

dr. livingston should not be teaching here at cal poly. she doesnt know how to teach a class so if you take any class by her you will not learn a thing. She thinks she is teaching you everything correctly but if you ask any other teacher at this school she is doing it all wrong. DO NOT TAKE HER. i know she is the only teacher that teachers this course so i would recommend taking a different nutrition class or you will just be frustrated the whole time. she acts like a know it all and knows nothing. she should not teach here.
