He is nice but not a very good professor. His explanations make you more confused, he kind of assumes that you already know a lot about econ, which most of our class didn't and then teaches like you already know. if you argue certain questions on tests or problem sets he may give you points back because his wording is often very unclear. Went into the Final with a C- and ended up with a C+, his final saved my grade. He is getting better as a teacher and I noticed a difference as the quarter progressed but he has a long way to go. I would get a teacher who is a little less green until he gets a lot better. He is nice and will work with you, not sure how much help it will be but he is very nice.

Professor Zinn is a new, young professor at Cal Poly, so I'll give him that. His teaching style is reading off of the Powerpoints in a monotone voice. That's it. You don't even really have to go attend class if he provides the powerpoints beforehand (he did not provide them for the first half of the quarter, so students had to vigorously type/write all of the notes because he went so fast). The good thing about this class is that there are no quizzes.. There are only about six online multiple choice Problem Sets, a 20 question midterm (30%), and a 30 question final (40%). Overall, I would say avoid this teacher. Econ is not easy, and it doesn't help when the professor is new and learning HOW to teach.

Jesse is very nice but his lectures are boring and straight out of the book. Not even worth going to class.

Jesse is the worst econ teacher. He's a young guy and you think he's cool, but he doesn't help you at all. If you go to his office hours, he doesn't help at all and watches you struggle with his impossible homework assignments. Its pointless to go to class too becuase he's more boring than E-Or, and all of the powerpoints that he gives you are almost identical to the ones on the econ portal that you have to have to signup with the class. Dont take Zinn!!!!

Zinn was garbage!! I got decent grades only because I went over the practice problems. His lectures are boring as hell and I didnt even go after the first midterm because he goes thru the slides to quickly for me to finish notes. He has a whatever attitude and thinks we can pay attention to nothing for like an hour and a half. I would not recommend taking this guy unless hes the last Econ professor available. Crash as many other classes as you can or just sign up for him and attend the other classes because you will probably learn more from that. DOODOO I wouldnt recommend this class to my worst enemy.......

Jesse Zinn is a lameass. lectures put you to sleep and dont teach you anything since he goes through power points way too fast and doesnt put anything online. He doesnt take attendence so dont go to class!! its waste of time... find the online powerpoints and take good notes. His Lectures are based off of power points that he takes directly from the books powerpoints. Dont buy the book! he gives you a code that gives you a free online book as welll as other helpful study tools. There are powerpoints made by paul krugman the author of the book and zinns powerpoints are exactly the same as his.

waste of my time. His lectures are straight from the book and will put you to sleep so there is no point of even going to class. If you take this class with a friend, it can be manageable because all of the homework and quizzes are online and 12 questions each for quizzes and 4 questions for homework. If I had actually read each chapter and took notes before 2 days before the final I could have probably gotten an A or high B in this class. His midterm wasnt bad, but the final will rape you.

Jesse was a really good teacher. The pre lecture questions are an easy 10% of the grade and his problem sets were difficult but definitely doable. The midterm and final are straight from the problem sets, and he gives 10% extra credit on every test. His lectures are boring but if you read the book you will be fine.

Don't learn anything in lectures. It was almost impossible to do problem sets unless you googled every answer because Jesse doesn't teach you how to do it. The final was ridiculously hard, and ruined my grade. He's new and young and doesn't know how to teach.

Jesse was hands down the worst professor I ever had. He can't teach. That's the bottom line. Lectures off the book and doesn't contribute to helping students understand at all. He's a very boring guy too. Maybe he's an excellent researcher or economist but the guy simply can't teach and doesn't belong teaching.

Zinn rocks. He's not a very dynamic public speaker, and people are right to pick up on this, but I'm confident he'll improve. He clearly grasps the subject matter and goes over everything you need to know for the homework and exams. Very reasonable, if you show up to all the lectures it's pretty easy to get an A.
