If I had not taken Calculus in high school I would be so lost in this class. She makes everything much more complicated than it needs to be and the way she speaks is not very confident. She is a good grader but you won't learn very easily. There is no homework due but it's helpful for the quizzes every Friday and for the midterms. Overall don't take her class.

Overall, I think Professor Hamilton did a wonderful job teaching Calculus. While she doesn't seem very confident when she teaches, she obviously knows what she is talking about and does her best to present the material in a manner as clear as possible. I hadn't taken a math class since Junior Year of high school, and Hamilton still made it easy enough to understand the material. That said, it will take a lot of work to pass this class. There is homework, but it is not due. YOU MUST PUT IN THE TIME TO DO THE HOMEWORK! Hamilton is very helpful in her office hours and obviously loves to teach her students. She is a straight shooter and will tell you what will be on each quiz and test. This is the only math class I've taken at Poly, and by no means am I a top student, but I would highly recommend taking her class.

Professor Hamilton is the perfect teacher for math majors. When she teaches concepts she provides proofs as to why they work. Being an engineer (who had already taken calculus), I felt like the theorems and proofs were a bit unnecessary (and sometimes, incredibly confusing). However, math majors should be wired to proving a problem to death, so this is definitely the class for them. Don't be scared to take her class, though. While she might go fast sometimes, she is really good at recognizing when the class is stuck or when the material gets really difficult. Also, while I never used her office hours, those who do really gain an advantage towards getting that A. Definitely go with her!

Most adorkable math professor I've ever had. She presents everything clearly and easily has the best handwriting in the whole math department. I've never seen a math professor as excited for math as her. Very approachable in office hours and an incredibly fair grader. It's a tough class, but if you do all the homework (which is verbatim on weekly tests and sometimes midterms) you will pass the class.

Professor Hamilton is a wonderful woman. She is very approachable during office hours. The two drawbacks she has in her teaching is that she assumes that everyone has taken calculus in high school and she does not curve. I did not take calculus in high school, therefore, I did not pass her class even though I studied more for this class than any other.

I don't understand why her Polyratings are this low. Her Calc 2 class was very very decent. The key to do well in her class is to DO THE HW. The homework problems are literally how her weekly friday quizzes look like. She is VERY helpful in Office hours, you just need to take the initiative to ask her for help. Her midterms are definitely a bit challenging, BUT it's nothing that you haven't seen before. Her class structure is VERY STRAIGHT FORWARD. Soooo, NO SURPRISES on her quizzes and midterms. Doing the homework problems truly help, trust me! She's not bad at all, you just have to put in time on the hw. It's optional, so this is why many people are not motivated to do it. But if you want to do well on the quizzes, now you know what to do.

I was a little confused finding Prof. Hamilton on PolyRatings because on Poly Planner, her first name is Emily. Oh well. This teacher is really good, and I'm glad I was in her class. Lectures were 100% in depth and she would go out of her way to clarify any questions students had. Homework is not required, BUT DO IT. She even says this, but I guarantee you, the quizzes and test are 100% from the book; the exact same problems. Many times I did the homework and on the weekly friday quizzes, the same exact problem from the book would show up on the quiz. Just know if you have Hamilton, you are in good hands.

Professor Hamilton was great at explaining the material. We had weekly quizzes, two midterms, and a final. I thought all of her test questions were fair, and she also went over plenty of examples in class. I would definitely recommend taking her!

Professor Hamilton does an excellent job teaching the calc classes. Her notes are super organized and easy to follow which is great for reviewing the material for midterms and finals. For each new concept she presents why it works as well as how it works, which was very helpful for me in getting a full understanding of the material. She also works several example problems every day in class. Homework is not required, but the weekly quizzes closely follow the suggested homework problems, so it is beneficial to do. All of the problems on the midterms and final were very fair and seemed to be based off of the homework problems or example problems from class. I loved Professor Hamilton for Calc II and will be taking her again for Calc III next quarter.

She spends a lot of time explaining how certain formulas and concepts are derived, which would be okay except that she spends more time on that than the actual concepts you will be tested on. If you want an A, make sure to study for BOTH midterms even if you do well on the first one. She doesn't grade homework, so you can't rely on that to boost your grade at all. She won't be helpful if you ask her a question in class because she gets nervous and stressed easily. However, she's more helpful in office hours if you go in.

Professor Hamilton was great at explaining each topic and giving us time to study the topics before quizzes and midterms. We had a quiz every Friday we didn't have a midterm. Homework wasn't collected but doing it or going to the workshop for her class is a great help for the quizzes. I would definitely recommend taking her class.

Her class is structured very well. Homework that is not due but prepares you for weekly quizzes. The midterms are practically just longer quizzes but you always know what to expect. She grades very generously, allots a lot of partial credit if you show that you know what you are doing on a question. She is very approachable and helpful during office hours. You will do well if you put in the work.

I had her for 142 and 143 and she was great both times! Quizzes and tests are straight forward, her lectures are very organized and she writes great notes on the board. She seems somewhat shy but it makes her more approachable. She occasionally has really dorky math jokes that are cute, so you should look some math puns up if you want to contribute to those moments. There's no homework due which is nice if you already have some experience in calc, you can just focus on problems relevant to what you need to practice. Overall great, I'd recommend her for any math you can take her for.

Hamilton is an amazing professor. I can't pin point exactly why but her lectures are amazing and I've learned so much from them. Her poly learn page is really clear and helpful and she posts amazing reviews for the midterms. I would HIGHLY recommend her to anybody and she teaches calc II, III, and IV.

While she is not a very confident lecturer, she has the students' best interests at heart. Her lectures usually mirror what is in the book, and her explanations are very thorough. In office hours she is concise and helpful, much like in her classes. Her class consists of two midterms, a final, and weekly quizzes. The quizzes are trivially easy, usually straight from the homework, and she grades very generously overall. The midterms were not much harder than the quizzes, and she tests broad concepts rather than nitpicking details.

Professor Hamilton, like the evaluations before me, is not a confident lecturer. However, that might be the only bad thing about her, and in reality is not that bad. She is very smart and provides thorough notes in her class. She always gives several examples and works through them with the students. She is great at explaining things graphically, which helps when talking about things in 3 and 4 dimensions. Her quizzes and midterms are problems straight from the book, so if you do the homework, you can't get lower than a B. They are not the easy problems, but she doesn't throw curveballs or little tricks. Its as straight forward as can be. I highly recommend taking her class!

By the way, it says "Margaret" on PolyLearn, but she goes by Emily. She lectures straight from the book, and often more confusing because she gets equations wrong occasionally, and her partial derivative signs look like 2's. Her midterms and quizzes are just like the homework, make sure you know how to do all the homework and practice it, and then you'll be golden. Pretty easy grader too. I would take her again, but just make sure that you can learn from the book or another professor or your peers.

Dr. Hamilton is a new professor at Poly as of this fall so when I signed up for her class it was a gamble. But I soon learned that I had made the right decision. She explained the material very clearly and showed examples both visually and algebraically. Overall she was a great professor and helped me to understand the material. I would recommend her to anyone.

After going to class for about a week, I realized that attending Hamilton's lecture style was doing more harm then hurt. I stopped attending her class and began learning a week's worth of material every wednesday or thursday night. My grades only got better from there, earning A's on all the quizzes. Hamilton is nice and doesn't give tricky difficult problems on exams, but she can not teach for her damn life. Read the book and do some homework problems and you should be fine.

Professor Hamilton is very patient and clear when presenting the material. Her tests and quizzes are fair, and you should have no problem getting a B. She also uses colored chalk!

I strongly recommend Professor Hamilton for Calc IV. Her lectures are extremely clear, easy to follow, and engrossing. Like another reviewer said, the colored chalk is awesome addition to lectures too. She obviously enjoys studying and teaching math and is such a warm and friendly personality. Although I only found it necessary to go to office hours once in the quarter - because she covers everything you need to know in lecture and is more than willing to answer questions in class - she was very helpful there. The two midterms and final were extremely doable, and along with the optional homework her weekly quizzes are great preparation. She makes time for plenty of examples during lecture as well.

while she is a good teacher, she is tough. She has very high expectations of her students--I've aced every one of my math class so far, but this one straight up killed me. I studied a LOT for the class (homework took an inordinately great amount of time) and ended up with a C on the final. This isnt so bad if you consider the class average of a C- grade, she just doesn't curve. It also doesn't help that she has a really think Bulgarian accent so it's kinda hard to understand her. Ultimately, if you want to learn, take her. But if you mind dropping your GPA or work your butt off, think twice.

Professor Hamilton is a great teacher. I consider her tier one and so do most of my other fellow math majors. This class is the first proof based math class many students see so it is hard to teach this new kind of math to student despite this Hamilton does an amazing job. She is very clear in class and always tries to answer your questions fully in class. If you pay attention in class, take good note, and do the homework you should be fine in her class. I thought that she could have sped up the pace of the class but that might just be me because I read a book that covers many of the concepts covered in this class. I have only gone to her office hour once or twice but I have a friend who goes almost everyday she say that she is great in office hours. I also really like the homework she gives because it is really relevant to what we learn in class not like other teachers who try to make the homework incredible hard.

Hamilton is an amazing professor. She has a very strong understanding of mathematics and is very passionate about the subject, which is shown in lectures. Overall, MATH 248 is a tough class. For exams and homework, we are asked to write proofs from a couple different branches of math (set theory, number theory, algebra, etc.) While Hamilton does go over everything we need to know in her lectures, this will not be enough to pass the course. Students must study their notes and work out every homework problem thoroughly to be able to comfortably write proofs on their own. She expects you to be comfortable with every definition because her lectures build upon themselves very quickly. Her exams are tricky because they do require you to prove multiple problems all within the 50 minute lecture period. While it is possible to do well in this course, it will require about 6 additional hours of work per week to stay caught up.

Professor Hamilton has fantastic organization and board work. Her tests are also very fair - unlike most higher level math classes, she doesn't put impossible questions on her exams. You know what to expect. She also gives thorough feedback on homework. The atmosphere of her class is also laid back and relaxed, and it feels like we can all breathe and soak in new concepts without being overwhelmed.
