What the guy/gal below said. Amen. I too took this class and have long since graduated from Poly, but I was cruising Poly Ratings for a kick and thought that I should pipe in and let you know how much of a joke this prof is.

Interesting guy... Kind of boring at times and not the most concise, but he teaches you well! You never quite feel like you are getting a lot out of the class until the final when you feel very well prepared. Consists of a lot of homework problems due each week(more than other teachers) that are toughly graded, but only worth 10% of the grade. 3 "quizzes" that were really midterms, worth 20% each, fairly leniently graded. And the common final was worth 30%. I'd recommend him for sure. Also random trivia extra credit problems! he curves everything, so that helps too if a hw or quiz is too harshly graded overall, it doesn't really matter

Noori is a good professor. His lectures are very helpful and he is very smart. His quizzes were chellenging and he grades harshly. Just do well on the final and you will do well in the class. He assigns a lot of homework and it is harshly graded but the practice helps. Overall, I recommend Noori.

Bland and overly cursory lectures. He seems to just be going through the motions. Not open to new input. Occasionally harsh grader(Took ten percent off my midterm for answering with a unit vector instead of an angle). But...He covers the basics in an understandable way.

BASIC ASSESSMENT - Approachable: Yes - Prepared: No - Consistent: Yes - Knowledgeable: Yes - Understandability*: 3 - Work Load**: 10 hrs/week - Recommended: No GENERAL ASSESSMENT: While Professor Noori was not completely unbearable, I found many aspects of his teaching style contrary to my personal preferences. Among the most concerning aspects of his methods, his lack of organization and preparation prior to lectures made certain parts of the course difficult for me. Additionally, I felt that the lectures provided little insight into the concepts, as his lectures consisted primarily of examples. With little structure in my notes, studying was somewhat difficult. GRADING BREAKDOWN: Quizzes: 55% Homework: 15% Final: 30% Extra Credit Opportunities: Yes Curves Assignments: Uncertain POSITIVE (+) AND NEGATIVE (-) POLICIES/PRACTICES: - Often offers extra credit for those who identify mistakes in examples (+) - Is very prone to making mistakes during lectures and when grading (-) - Does not come with materials prepared (-) ADVICE/NOTES/OTHER: If I was taking this course again, I probably would have signed up for a study session. Also, Dr. Noori had numerous doctor's appointments when I was enrolled in this class. He canceled class 4 times, if I remember correctly. I suspect this is not typical, however. * 1-10 scale; higher is better ** Average time/week spent on homework (studying, homework, etc.); may vary depending on student

Muhammad Noori, despite being good at explaining the material, was too disorganized for me to look at the class favorably. Besides hilariously missing the very first day of class, he flat out canceled an unbelievably large amount of classes. And considering this was a MWF schedule, those missed classes hurt. He did offer helpful online videos for some of the lessons towards the end, but I really wish he had those for the entire quarter. However, when he did actually lecture in class, he was extremely engaging and fun to listen too.

Professor M. Noori is chill teacher, but he doesn't really teach you much and he kinda sucks at maintaining his own time schedule that he set up for the class. First, there is 3 major test (he calls it Quizzes). They are basically your main source of points so do well on them!! Each Quizzes usually has extra credit question that he puts up (which has nothing to do with anything. LOL. it's random question he puts up such as, "who is the 2nd president of US?") One of the worst part of this class was that Professor Noori was absent too many times and he cancelled his classes. I mean I understand if its emergency, but too many in a short quarter is a downfall. However, to make up for his absences, he has his TA helping out with TUTORING. GO and get HELP! with HOMEWORK and especially TESTS!! THIS REALLY HELP ME ALOT. Lastly, one downside is that everyone does super bad on common FINAL. I just wish we had more time preparing for common final since that is like the major portion of your grade. Overall Professor Noori is chill, relaxing, and understanding professor. GO AND ASK QUESTIONS! well thats about it~ Good luck everyone!

I honestly really liked taking this class with Noori. I felt like he took statics and boiled it down to a few key concepts. I took the class as a freshman and as I went through my other years (taking CE 204/207 and ME 328) I realized my statics foundation was pretty strong and I had to come back and thank Noori for that. He really liked groups working together, which was a bit tough since our group had hours that did not always match up. He also required a pretty basic project. When I took ME 211 with Noori, the work load was very reasonable and I felt like I left with a very strong statics foundation that helped me later on, based off those key concepts Noori emphasized throughout the class.

Noori is a very effective teacher who makes a huge amount of help available to the students through his office hours and tons of help sessions with successful former students. The homework for this class takes up a large chunk of time, get the solutions manual. That said his tests are extremely fair and are about on par with the easiest 3rd of the homework. If you can do his homework his tests are easy. This is not a hard class at all and if you have trouble there are tons of ways to get help.

Did not like this teacher at all. His organizational skills are rubbish. Sometimes he'll jut randomly cancel classes, which hurts learning. He gives far too much homework and grades harshly. Notes are messy, I often couldn't understand what he was saying when looking back on them. Would not recommend this teacher. If you have to take him, make sure you go to his study sessions, because they will be your saving grace.

As has been mentioned, Noori's organization is terrible. There is no PolyLearn access and does not hand back homework in class. This led to a situation where I thought I was doing well because I understood the material, but was really failing and had no idea. That should never happen. Apparently, learning the material is only half of our grade. The other half is formatting and work technicalities. So, while I got all the correct answers on the first few homeworks and quizzes, they were graded down 60%. By the time I found out, we had already taken another quiz and turned in two more assignments. Something is wrong with your class if a student gets 4/10 on homework and quizzes meant to review material, then aces the midterm meant to gauge understanding of that same material. If the whole point of homework is to incrementally gauge our progress, how does it make sense that we don't get it back until it is too late to learn from it? Stay away from Noori. If you have to take him, be prepared to do everything his way and still fail the first few assignments because they weren't handed back in time to prevent the same mistakes on the next assignment.

I can relate to all the previous reviews. I most likely would have failed this class. Luckily, Noori offered office hours which consisted of ME Grad students who would help you with homework. They also held a study session before each midterm. I wouldn't take Noori if it's your first choice, but if you have him, be ready to rely on his Grad students to help you if you normally struggle with physics.

Noori is not as bad as everyone says. This was my second time taking statics, so I guess you could say it was easier this time. However, I still strongly believe that Noori really breaks things down into key concepts and makes things very easy to understand. He sometimes makes mistakes on the board in class, which you can catch him for and get bonus points on the midterms. He did miss class a couple times this quarter, which hurt learning a little bit, but it was not that bad. Overall, I would take Noori for statics rather than Niebur or Keller.

I thought Noori did a great job teaching statics. His main strength is he gives clear, step by step, instructions for how to do every problem. He is also a really fair guy. He will postpone hw and tests if needed and is understanding if you do 'uncharacteristically' bad on a midterm (there are 3). The midterms were very reasonable and were similar to the easiest hw problems. They also had random trivia extra credit. There are only 2-3 problems per midterm though so be careful. He does make a hilarious number of mistakes on the board, even his emails are full of typos. He teaches the class well I would recommend him.

Dude, I thought this guy's last name was Mohammad the whole time! He's not the best teacher I've ever had, but he's far from the worst teacher I've ever had. His lectures are pretty well laid out on the board, and he sends photos of each of his lectures to us. His lack of attention to detail is something that bothered me, but you can tell he's just kind of burnt out from teaching for the past hundred years. When his TA's teach the class, you actually learn Statics.

Idk why people butcher Noori. I do believe that he's a bit unorganized with his lectures, but he still presents the material in an understandable manner. If you're having a difficult time, he has two teaching assistants, and they're both super helpful! Go to their office hours!!! We also don't participate in the common final. Take Noori!

Noori is a really nice guy, and he wants you to win. His lectures are muddled and hard to understand, he makes a ton of mistakes on the board. But if you do the homework you should be able to get through the class fine. He offers multiple extra credit opportunities.

Noori is good at presenting material. His midterms were very easy, and had a little extra credit on each exam. Homework due each week, three miderms, one final. Unfortunately he had to leave week 7 for surgery and we got a harder professor and had to take the common final. Overall would definitely recommend

Dr. Noori makes statics very straightforward, but simplifies the material such that if you wish to go on to anything more challenging than dynamics, you should consider another professor. overall, Noori was very accommodating and was reasonable when you argued points on exams as well as didn't require us to buy the textbook or do readings, but instead uploaded the problem sets to a google drive that we could all access, as well as sent us photos of the lecture notes daily. Overall a great professor.

Dr. Noori is probably one of the best professors at Cal Poly. He really wants us to succeed and gave us a lot of materials for us to study outside of class. He would send us packets of practice problems for each topic which is EXTREMELY helpful for the midterm. His tests are very fair and he gives out extra credit. He is very knowledgable and just hearing him talk about statics or politics made my busy schedule enjoyable.

Noori is the best professor I've had at poly. Super understanding, super helpful, and incredibly intelligent. Anyone with a good head over their shoulders should want this professor. That being said, don't take him if you like Donald Trump being our president. But seriously, this guy is the best. Fair tests, sends all these practice problems before each exam. DO SOME OF THEM!!!!!!

This was my second time taking statics, and from a first timers point of view I could see this class being difficult but without a doubt doable. Noori is always throwing out bonus points and asking if anyone has questions. He only does practice problems in class and his tests are three problems, you already know what types he is going to ask. I did correct him on one of his test keys though, so I would make sure you know why you got something wrong if you did. I would recommend just because there isn;t many other professors I would say are better.

NOORI IS THE MAN. I was initially skeptical about statics because everyone freaks out about it but statics with Noori was a breeze. While seeing all of my other engineering friends struggle with their statics professors, I simply chilled. And that's not to say that I didn't walk out of statics with a solid understanding with it because I definitely did. Noori assigns weekly homework but it's super duper helpful, and we had midterms every two weeks which yeah sounds bad but makes studying for each one much less stressful. Additionally, the guy has been here for like 100+ years and is somehow allowed to make his own final, so not having to worry about the dreaded common final was really nice. Overall, if you can take this guy I would highly recommend it 10/10. Presents material clearly, gives you TONS of extra resources for studying, homework is effective, tests are fair, and the dude is funny and charming as all can be. Side note: looks exactly like the teacher from The Incredibles who got a tack stuck on his chair.

Noori isn't a bad professor. You literally have to pay attention in class to do well. He assigns a lot of homework, but seriously do it all because it really does prepare you for his exams. His homework makes you do all the fundamentals over and over and once you apply the fundamentals of statics to the exam, you'll be okay I promise. Only reason I got a C was because I got too cocky and I didn't study for the final enough. Also, his final had no partial credit either :/ He's a good professor, but you also need to put in the work. Side note, look over distributed loads! He never assigned HW on that topic and he gave it on an exam which was the only thing that was BS in the class.

A little spacey in class but provides you with many resources to make up for it. You will have lots of homework but that’s to prepare you for the common final. Posts all the lectures on line and constantly sends example problems for extra practice. Also has study sessions where you basically go over the quiz problems before hand. Would recommend. Hit him up on Twitter.

I have never given a review for a professor whether they have been good or bad but I think Noori's statics class is worth speaking up for because it was honestly one of the best lecture support courses I have had. Lectures are super chill he pretty much just does examples but he will answer questions obviously. Grade breakdown is 50% among 3 midterms, 35% for the final and 15% for homework. Noori assigns a lot of homework but if you do them and understand it you will not have trouble with the class. The midterms are obviously not insanely easy but I will say that they're easy in that he doesn't really try to trick you. Additionally he gives lots of sample handouts for before his tests that reflect pretty much what the exams are going to be on. As for the final, it is the same difficulty as the midterms. Noori has his own final cause hes a G, but you have to pass it to pass the class. If you score higher than your overall grade you get what you get for the final which is pretty dope. Now for the best part of the class. He has personal TAs that are his tutors throughout each week which is super dope if you have trouble making office hours and they are all qualified to help. Also there are study session before each exam and they pretty much give you the test questions or problems that are super similar. Finally he has students record all his lectures so don't have to sweat about missing class. Overall he made what I thought was going to be a pretty difficult class into cake. Obviously if you're not a really fast learner it'll take time and you will have to put work in but the class is very straightforward and not very difficult conceptually.

Noori is trash. Don't get me wrong, he's a very nice guy, but he doesn't care about this job. It's obvious he has no lesson plan, he spends literally the entire class with his back turned, copying meaningless derivations from his notes (which are posted online) to the board. Why even come to class? He's postponed every homework, midterm, and project multiple times. All assignments are group work, which is nice for your workload but adds to the fact that you will learn nothing. Neither is he professional. The week before the midterm was due he cancelled Monday & Wednesday class and then didn't even bother to show up Friday. No email or anything. The class sat there for 30 minutes before leaving. Bottom line is that you aren't going to learn anything from Noori. You'll probably get an A, but that means nothing if all you had to know to get that grade is that w=sqrt(k/m). It's pathetic that Cal Poly allows this kind of "teaching" to occur, regardless of if he has tenure. Kay?

Although I got an A, this class was an absolute joke. Noori spent lectures deriving equations and effectively talking to himself. He hardly ever worked example problems or taught us how to apply the equations he derived. I don't feel like I got anything out of this class and I'm sure my fellow classmates would agree. Take him if you want an A or if you're desperate, but do not take him if you are at all interested in learning anything about mechanical vibrations.

Noori know his stuff. The course was heavily focused on derivation of difficult mathematical formulas, but Noori presented practical examples that helped you understand the concept and made the math part so easy to understand. He gave us two team projects which really helped with learning the material. This is a tough course. However, I liked the way Noori had organized the lectures and helped us to understand the topics, much better that the book had presented them.

After years of doing a great job, high staff and faculty satisfaction, Mohammad Noori, the legendary dean of Cal Poly’s College of Engineering, was asked last week to step down as the head of the university’s most prestigious college, CalCoastNews has learned. The move caps more than two years of maneuvering by faculty and department chairs within the engineering college over how to deal with the increasingly popular Noori, 57. Satisfied critics said Noori’s ability to manage budget deficits is very impressive. Even his most critical peers have agreed that his sense of leadership for such an important academic unit within Cal Poly is admirable. His plan for a proposed partnership in 2008 with an engineering school in Saudi Arabia project unfortunately fell through due to a strong opposition out of his control. Despite this Noori still fights for equality and the little guy. CalCoastNews learned that Cal Poly interim provost Robert Koob met with Noori last Thursday and told him he had to step down, otherwise Cal Poly would become an Ivy league institution. When the news of the meeting reached CalCoastNews, calls were immediately made to Noori, Koob and outgoing Cal Poly president Warren Baker. Despite repeated attempts to obtain comment, none of the three responded due to being too concentrated in their work. Department chairs within the popular college, which has an estimated 5,000 students, were teary-eyed after the meeting, but were clearly sad that Noori is out as the engineering dean. “I dont know who's is going to replace him but the probability of them filling his shoes is zero.” said Glen Thorncroft, the new California Faculty Association president for the Cal Poly campus and a mechanical engineering professor. “It is unfortunate timing for this because Noori was and still is the best dean ” Saturday’s commencement events on campus are almost always attended by college deans, who, along with Baker, cheer on the graduating seniors. But although Noori was nowhere to be seen, everyone felt his presence at the commencement ceremony for the engineering students. And while mechanical engineering chair Drew Davol said he was not able to discuss the specifics of last Thursday’s meeting between Noori and Koob, he said another college dean, whom he did not identify, went ahead and informed the faculty within that college that Noori was outstanding as engineering dean. For more than two years, the engineering college’s department chairs have been promising to take a vote of confidence with Noori as a last-ditch effort to get him promoted. In 2008, five senior faculty members, three of whom were members of the search committee that recommended Noori’s hiring, presented former Cal Poly provost William Durgin with this written request: “We represent a group of faculty concerned about the possible rise in the high standards and rankings we have recently achieved. We are acting to prevent damage to the reputation of the University and College dean we love,Noori. Dr. Noori’s arrival on campus raised all sorts of expectations, expectations that fortunately have been met.
