Carmen Trudell was a nice professor and overall okay in this EDES101 lecture hall class. However I want to say that THE CLASS(EDES101) is really unnecessary/stupid and could have been presented in a much better way. Half of the class consisted of guest lecturers, while I found some to be interesting, most were just people talking about their professions. Almost all of these lectures could have been presented online. The other half consisted of activities we did with small groups. Again, while I did learn a few things here and there, I think the whole class could have been better executed. I envy the next year class when they're changing it.

Carmen Trudell is a pretty cool person in general. She's really fun and energetic. Dont get caught taking a nap or being distracted during presentations because she will call you out. Also, do you work on time and the class will be a piece of cake, that means turning in the homework online ON TIME. If you don't like turning stuff online, well, get used to it, it will really help you on the portfolio. Overall, she is an awesome professor but unpredictable at times.

The grading policies are different than other teachers. More work than other studios. She is very helpful but expects a little too much from first year students.

It took me a little while to warm up to Carmen, but not long to appreciate the feedback that she gave students- on a personal and group level. She knows what she is talking about and genuinely seemed to care for our well-beings. She was good at reexplaining what we were supposed to do next for our projects, since it's usually a chaotic affair. She makes you do a bit of extra work here and there, but it DEFINITELY pays off when it comes to making the quarterly portfolio.

Carmen is a fun and very organized studio instructor. She makes sure that students understand instructions and answers questions with a lot of patience. Carmen firmly believes in thorough critiques and really helps you think about what you are doing. Highly recommended.

Carmen is one fine studio teacher and is a real fun gal if you get her. She is really soft spoken and doesn't give harsh critique AT ALL. Which makes her a perfect first year studio teacher because she is really nice about guiding you into your own direction instead of slamming down ur work like Freeby does. Personally the class is pretty individual, in that the work is all on you, but if you ask for Carmen's help, she will be a super useful tool to help give ur work direction. TAKE HER :) she's a nice lady.

For a first year teacher, I think Carmen is one of the better professors. She expects just as much as other professors, but is pretty approachable. She can be passive aggressive sometimes, and it isn't always easy to understand her instructions. Pay attention during crits and speak up to share your thoughts, she hates quiet kids who don't contribute and will call you out if you aren't participating. Be prepared with assignments when you come to class. Overall she is a good teacher with a wonderful design aesthetic and if you push yourself you will learn a lot. You get out what you put in.

What you lose in class-time, you make up for in direction. Seriously, talking to Carmen always makes me completely understand what I want from a project, how I will do it, and how to explain it to other professors. I still go back and talk to her when I hit a dead end because she is just so clear, but at the same time supportive and makes you come to the conclusion rather than just telling you. the amount of inspiration I have achieved just talking to Carmen is ridiculous. I'm definitely a fan, but she has high standards and does take all of class for critiques, so be prepared for that. Not an easy professor if you are an Arce just trying to get through studio. I highly recommend her if you actually want to learn something in a given quarter.

Carmen is very sweet, patient, and helpful when you talk to her one on one. She is detail oriented and focuses on craft and mechanics but is not as good at getting her students to push the boundaries conceptually with design. I appreciated taking Carmen but I would not want to take her again.

she picks favorites and is very passive aggressive. if you're not her favorite, you will probably not get higher than a C

Winter 2017 may be an inaccurate picture to paint of her, because she was pregnant (and obviously needed to miss class occasionally due to her health). She powered through really well, though, and one thing I can say about her is that she is a quiet soul and probably an amazing mother, because she made a point of getting to know each of us really well, and saw each of us through to the end of our design. She also took an interest in the workload we had in our other classes (Arch History and Practice) and adjusted deadlines accordingly. She cared about our mental and physical health, which is kind of unusual for an arc professor, lol, and she fostered a really great studio environment. I wouldn't say "we were a family" or something cheesy, but we definitely had a lot of group discussions and got a lot of peer feedback. I made quite a few new friends in her studio. She also is very knowledgable of the content we learned in Practice, so her studio was a great place to apply that learning in the form of a project. On top of that, she's great at Rhino and AutoCAD and she's very approachable if you ever need help. Overall a great professor. Another thing to note --- During our quarter, it was a "double studio" combined with Teddy (Slowik)'s studio in the same room, so it was cool to get Teddy's input on things as well as Carmen's. Teddy's students definitely did a fuck ton more iterations/revisions than we did (and lost a lot of sleep... RIP. those poor souls), but we ended up with around the same number of formal deliverables.
