Dr Lathrop was kind of strict and mean. Her grading was very harsh for the lab reports and she had very strict rules, such as professional dress Tuesday. Her tests were very hard and she went through the slides very quickly in class. Many times you don't have any other option but to take her, especially as an FSN major 1st year, for FSN 125, but just beware that you need to pay super close attention in class and follow some very strict rules.

This is the first C I have recieved in my entire life. I hope that says something to all of you out there watching their GPA. Do not take him--this class was a nightmare!

Amy is a really fun person, but definitely makes a difficult course when she wants to. Lecture, quizzes, hw... it's all easy to understand. Her midterms are often difficult, more often because she didn't teach you the material on the test, not because she writes it that hard. Fortunately, her curve is typically pretty generous when that happens. If you can't stand group projects, DO NOT TAKE HER... EVER. I've had her for several classes and have ALWAYS had a major group project for every single class. She is really fun to listen to because she makes fun of herself about as much as everyone else around her (nicely) and is about as focused as the dog in Up! (Squirrel!) Her expectations for group projects are often completely outrageous and she often runs off to do her research while class takes the back seat.

TAKE HER! She is one of the best Dairy Science teachers out there! She is energetic, fun to listen to, makes class exciting, and presents the material well. Her tests are challenging, but if you pay attention and actually try, its a pretty easy course. I would recommend taking her any day!!

Where do I start with this one...? She is an incredibly bubbly and passionate professor, but she is as disorganized and scatter-brained as they come. This class was an absolute s#*t show. She would say we were going to do one thing in lecture or lab and completely change things up a night before. The labs were not her own, but copied from some other institution. It was obvious she hadn't really gone over them thoroughly because we would hit so many obstacles that she was always surprised by. She was not at all professional and that seems to have a lot to do with where teaching is on her list of priorities. She's obviously very preoccupied with family and the gym since they take up a good portion of lecture time. I don't understand how she is allowed to work here. What a trainwreck. She's the only professor that teaches this course, so we're SOL with this one...

This is the class that finally pushed me to the edge to switch out of food science. I took this class last year and completely hated every second of it. Lammert is such a nice person and bubbly I would love to be her friend but she is THE WORST PROFESSOR. The lab reports were so so so HARD because she was so scatter brained in explaining the information. She would change everything all the time and her grading was so incredibly harsh for her miscommunication of the information. SO unprofessional. I felt like I couldn't trust her as an industry professional and thats how I knew this major was not for me what so ever. The food science department quite frankly really needs to get their shit together because I had several peers who switched out of this major because the program and professors are just so so SO inconsistent. I never had a food science professor in my two years or so in the major that I liked or any particular class that really confirmed I even liked the major at all because the professors were just so bad. The department really needs to up their professionalism. Good luck if you have this class and her.

Pros: Dr. Lammert is a very enthusiastic professor who is one of the few professors to make 7:40am classes bearable. She is very knowledgeable in the subject, but often does not have time to dedicate to her students. She is also very understanding if there are issues in the assignment and pushed the due date back. Cons: This class is a shitshow. I love Dr. Lammert as a person, but she does not know how to run a proper class. She often gives excuses for why she didn't something (her internet was down, so she couldn't answer our questions, ect). There are still assignments that we did over a month ago that still have not yet been graded. No one knows whats going on- labs don't work, things get changed around last minute, and the objectives are unclear. You learn how to do something after you turn in your assignment, not before. Also if you don't know how to use JMP ask your stats professor. Know all the ins and outs of it. I did not know how to use JMP and its the hardest part of the class. RedJade is another program to use, but I still don't understand it. Set up: There are 3 midterms, a final presentational on a sensory test the class conducts, and a handful of lab memos, stats assignments, quizzes, and "questionnaires(like easier versions of the stats assignments)." Most people did poorly on the first midterm, but improved after that (I think, our other midterm grades are still not posted). I have friends in the class who took it last year, so I asked them for help on the stats assignments. The class isn't hard material wise, it's hard because the stats portion of the class isn't clearly explained before you have to do the assignments. When I took the first midterm, I got most of the comprehension questions right, just not the stats. Overall: I wrote something similar on her course evals, so hopefully she improves. She changed some things from last years class, so I think she will take them to heart. Last year students had to do their lab reports after doing the labs during the 3 hour time slot, so I am glad we don't have to do that.

Dr. Amy Lammert is by far one of the best professors I've had at Cal Poly. I was a little intimidated taking a Food Science class, but Professor Lammert made the class so much fun. This is one of the few classes that I honestly looked forward to each day, especially having it on a Friday morning. With that being said, the class is not necessarily an easy A. Be prepared to work hard for your grades, as the midterms are anything but easy. The first midterm was hard. She told us it would be easy, so I didn't study as much as I thought I would need to, so make sure you know your stuff! The only suggestion I have is to make sure you thoroughly know all of the information and are well prepared for the midterms and final! Other than this, enjoy the class because you will learn so much and will really enjoy it! Despite not earning an A in the class, I am really glad I took FSN 319. Amy Lammert is a such a great professor and may even be my favorite one so far! I only have positive things to say about this class and professor, so I would highly recommend FSN 319!

Professor Lammert is amazing at presenting the information. I am a business major and this class was easy to follow and very fun because she talks about food the whole time

\She loves what she teaches which is somewhat humorous to watch her get super excited about E. Coli and bacteria. I took this in Quarter+ (if you don't know what that is you should google cuz it's awesome) and she made 4 hours of class, 4 days a week really fly by. Her tests were fair, and straight from the powerpoint. Grading was also fair. In class essay was actually fun and again, totally fair. Overall I'd definitely recommend Amy! Great prof!

Dr. Lammert is a great professor. I learned a lot in food chemistry. I wish there was another level of food chemistry to follow. She conveys the importance of food chemistry and applies it to food industry. She is very enthusiastic and gives reasonable tests. Just make sure to always go over your tests after getting them back to make sure there are no grading errors. My only gripe about this class is that she is a very busy professor, which is understandable and great, but it is hard to schedule office hours to get additional help. There is a lot of group work in lab, but it isn't that bad.

Amy is one of those professors who pretend to know everything about everything when in fact she has no idea what she is doing. Lammert was a total shame to all food science students, she taught us nothing but wrong information. Her game goes this way; if she likes you,you get a good grade... She is all about kissing ass and she will do anything to be recognized as the best of the bests. Get ready for lectures because half of the time she will talk about her struggles, kids and finally her Mr.Wonderful who she brags about all day long. She is all after money and popularity, she doesn't care about her students, never responded to students emails and on top of that she was ALWAYS on her phone. We pay money to get educated and this person did NOT care to give us the time or the help we needed to succeed. I hope someone will do something to replace her, I would say take someone else but if you are a Food Science Major you are kind of left with no choice. Just be ready for a unorganized and hectic lecture with this woman and keep in mind that if you want to succeed you must do all the work and do you own research on the topics covered in class because what she will provide you with is all false information. GOOD LUCK!
