He is a decent teacher, but his lectures are pretty boring. His midterm and final seem to pull questions out of thin air. There's not that much homework, but skipping one assignment really hurts your grade. You don't really have to go to class if you are able to learn the information on your own. It's pretty easy to get an A in the class, if you do the homework and do well in the lab section.

I had Rod for a welding lecture and I honestly think he said the same things over and over. It was not a difficult class, but he was way too rushed trying to get the information over to us students. Hey Rod, I like your bike racks, but slow down a little and let us absorb the info...

Rod is an excellent machining instructor. I enjoyed going to lab and learning how to work on the machines because he explained things so well. I am not an ME dork and I took this class for fun...and it was more fun than I ecpected. His quizzes are easy and he grades the projects leniently and is an all around good guy. He is very strict on safety which is understandable because one wrong move on a mill and your face could be ground beef.

I had Rod as a Lab instructor for IME 143 (Machining) and he was fantastic. As long as you follow safety instructions and pay attention to what he shows you, you will do just fine. The key is to be interested in what he is teaching. Rod is a great guy.

I was pretty beat from other classes and could barely prevent myself from falling asleep while operating the lathe (which is acutally a pretty cool machine). Given my performance, I think Rod was pretty generous to give me a B. Reccomended for 143 Lab, but not sure about other courses.

Mr. Hoadley's lectures were deadly boring; I would say at least half the class was asleep at any given time during the lecture. Also, the info he presented in lecture had nothing to do with his tests. He also made this class a lot harder than it had to be. Take another teacher if possible.

Hoadley is a pretty good guy. He does want everyone to actually learn rather than just \"pass\". That mentality can lead to some nitpicking but overall it isn\'t horrible. He is passionate about what he does and knows what he is doing. He may not teach it perfectly, but ask questions, watch and listen carefully to his demos, and talk to him too, get to know him, he\'s great, and you can get an A.

on the first day of class, i thought rod was going to be a cool guy. wrong. he really doesn't ever know what the hell is going on and doesn't know shit about pro/E. i pretty much learned everything in this class by teaching myself, which is not such a safe thing to do. he grades super super hard. there was one midterm that was 3 hours long!!! not kidding. fuckin' ridiculous. i had a 3.6 major gpa going into this class, and now i will be lucky to hold a 3.0. if you have a choice to take either conroy or hoadley for your lab, fuck hoadley, he is not worth the frusteration.

Rod is a very nice guy. He is very helpful in his labs. There was one project that I did horribly on and after I talked to him about it, he let me start all over, quided me through it, and i ended up getting a B on the project. He is very helpful in that way. Some problems with his class is that he only teaches the lab, not the lecture, and the tests are written by the lecturer. While he does cover what is on the test, it is a problem because different things are emphasized. Also, he is very energetic. He explains a lot at once and you tend to get lost sometimes. But all you have to do is ask him afterwards and it will all get cleared up. While the class has some negatives, Rod is definately a nice, good professor

Hoadley is one of those people that are really enthusiastic about their job. He was very informative about the machining and drafting aspects of the class. But I found that the PROE lectures were not that helpful. I had to basically teach myself the program. He is very approachable if you have questions and lets you look over your tests and ask him questions about the grading. Overall I learned a ton about drafting and machining in this class, and I would recommend this teacher to anyone.

A seemingly uptight guy turned out to be a great professor who cares that you learn rather than cares about grades. He didn't seem to have his grades really organized but i knew they he would help out any of the students that would need it. His layout for IME 144 was simple and easy to do.

This guy is an asshole. He is so uptight about everything and he definatly picks favorites. Pretty much failed me on my pro/e project for no reason. Mine looked just like everyone else's, but because we really didnt get along he took it out on me the only way he could. Get your nose brown really early with this guy, and dont forget to give him a reach around every once in a while. Colvin and Robinson are way better lab teachers than Hoadley, take the lab with them instead.

This was an alright class, some interesting material, but I had it at 8:00 in the morning, which made it a little less interesting. Hoadley is a cool guy who really knows what he is talking about. I really liked him and would definitely take him again. He has a lot of industry experience which adds to his lectures.

Hoadley's not that bad, but take someone else if you can. He's just not a very good teacher and isn't very good at helping students on the non-hands on part of the class. He's very knowledgeable about industry and is good at teaching beginners how to use machines. Class was a lot of b.s. work, test's were not hard, but not exactly easy either, class was very boring, but you really needed to go to pass the tests, project was hard because you pretty much have to teach yourself Pro-E. Get numbers of other people in your class because you're probably going to need help on the project.

Hoadley is a good guy and an average teacher. He presents the material pretty well and tells you exactly what is expected for the lab reports. Overall, just an average professor but there is no reason not to take him.

Hoadley really tries to get you to learn more than just the material. He has a ton of real world experience that is extremely valuable if you listen to him. This isn't really a hard class, but he expects you to know fine details. His lectures are kind of boring, but what he talks about will be on the midterm and final.

I had Hoadley for IME 144 lecture, and let me say, that lecture was incredibly boring. He repeated topics every friday over and over again. Any day besides the first one, the midterm and the finals, less than half the class even showed up to the lecture. One day he did give a extra credit quiz for anyone there, so it can pay off to stay. Seems like a nice guy, but he took the class very seriously, he does love to teach it though. You probably wont have a choice in who to take, so just prepare for boring lectures and mildly easy tests.

Hoadley is awesome. His lectures are boring but he is really passionate about design and manufacturing. Be sure to pay attention to MMC and thread stuff because that is pretty much all the math you will do in the class.

Professor Hoadley conveys information clearly and explains all procedures with the lab manual in the classroom and then again with the machines in front of him and the students. IME 144 was my favorite class this quarter and I learned a lot about machining processes because everything was so clear.

Having some machining knowledge but no actual machines, Hoadley's class was a blast. If you like designing and building things, this class is a cakewalk. The homework is easy and you actually learn from it, and the class is almost entirely machining. The lecture is boring as, but the lecture tests were easy if you even half-pay attention. There were two questions on the final about something he mentioned once in lecture, but that was the hardest part of the class. The assigned reading was actually an interesting read, so take Hoadley if you can. Little effort is required for an A, even easier if you like manufacturing, and you will actually learn something.

Coming in with no engineering and machining experience at all, this class was pretty difficult for me. It can be frustrating because the students range from me, to fourth years who could do this stuff in their sleep. Rod is honestly a cool dude, and it's clear that he is interested in manufacturing. However, he isn't always the best at explaining things to newbies so we're kind of left to fend for ourselves. Using the machines was a blast however, and I definitely learned a lot. It was time consuming and stressful, but if he sees that you're making an effort to learn you'll be fine.

The lecture was boring in the sense that material was covered multiple times each lecture in the same manner. He would tap on the board a lot, which irritated me a little. He knows the material, but he has a harder time sharing the knowledge. I\'m not sure about his lab, but I would think that it resembles the lecture.

Rod is one of the best teachers that I have ever had. he presented the course material very clearly, while making the class fun at all times. The mid-term and final were quite hard, but managable. The lab was the funnest part of the class. Get started on it all early. DO NOT PROCRASTINATE! It will catch up to you. Rod is the best instructor for this course!

Pre test homework is great at prepairing for the tests. Go to every lab you can even if it is not your sec and get a good jump on the projects. Start welding and or forging early as these stations become increaingly crowded as the quarter proceeds leading to unproductive waiting time. Lecture notes/material is key to Rons test. He wants you to really understand what he says and thinks is important the rest ie the book has much less weight on the tests.

Rod is a great teacher, he's excited about his teaching and a wealth of knowledge. The homework is straitforward and takes little time. Make sure to go to EVERY lab and don't worry about quality, just get all the projects done. Know the graphs on the final and studdy the review sheets.

Choadley is really anal and seems to give you grades lower than you deserve. It seemed that I got A's and B's all quarter but ended up with a B- overall. The material is decent, and overall the class isn't bad. I would say he is an average professor.

Rod is a great teacher. He presents the material clearly in class and the lab part of the class is doable. Don't worry about quality, just get every project done. They are not that hard but if you procrastinate, it will catch up to you. Midterm and Final seemed to be hard for most. Take good notes in class, skim over the reading, and have basic understanding of machines in the lab. For the FINAL- know how to graph stress-strain diagram with info from a load-deflection diagram; know how to calculate stress and pounds for the concrete sample; and also know how to graph phase diagrams and cooling curves. These graphs are worth a ton of points so make sure you know how to do them. Anyway, great teacher, really fun lab, take this course with Rod if you can.

hoadley is a perfect teacher for this class. His industry experience brings so much to the classroom, which helps us learn so much more. He is pretty straight foward with his lecture and test material. You will learn a lot and this class will prepare you for IT 407.

Rod is great. He is fair and straightforward about what he wants from you. It's a class where it's just unacceptable to get lower than a B, really. Get all the projects done in the lab since the lab is nearly worth as much as the lecture. The homework assignments are super easy. I had a fun time being taking this class.

First off I should say my grade is what I deserved. I dont do well with evening classes, and I frequently could not stay away in lecure. In lab I made the mistake of getting 100% on all the assignments I did. The main reason I wrote this is to say unless you have prior metal shop experience, just try to get a B on each assignment. Most people dont finish every single assignment. Ohh, and if you have the choice between having a lab on a Monday or Friday when you can have it on a Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday, go for the middle of the week. My lab section missed a couple days of lab because of holidays and we had to come on our own time (well, more his or the lab techs time, but whatever) to do projects.

Rod's class was my first IT course I took (back in 2002) and is the reason I switched majors. Unfortunately he has long been out of the department, but because he was such an amazing teacher I feel compelled to write a blurb for those now so luck to have him as a proff. Hoadly is extremely knowledgable and is a great teacher... tough, but amazing. Enjoy.

Well, what can I say, pick an easy project that can be marketed, and made easily. Don't think that you should challenge yourself, this class is way to time consuming as it is, I seriously felt like I had two jobs all quarter long. Pick an easy doable project early, have a prototype, and keep the processes to a minimum. Seriously! DO THE PRETEST HW and understand everything and you will get an A. I Got a 55 on the first test and still recoverd for a B+ by putting lots of time into the final and the project. By the way the 55 was a direct result of spending to much time in the lab with our complex project that scored last!!!!. The easiest, most unoriginal project won, due to good marketing, good show presentaion, and simplicity. We were fucking mad, but it didn't change a thing. Keep it simple, keep your focus on the grading criteria not your pride for the project.

As I was in the class, I seemed to get an impression from Rod that I was simply wasting his time. As reports and assignments were turned in, no explanation was given for poor grades, or good ones . His communication skills between himself and other students, were well below par on his desires for the coarse work. This is a learning institution, if he wants to work in an environment where people know exactly how to do everything without an explanation, maybe he should not have chosen to be a professor.

Rod's a great lecturer. He knows his stuff. He makes you think critically on open ended industry related topics. His lectures are really essential to doing well in lab (and out in the realworld). He really cares for each students needs. Mr. Hoadley brings a lot of creative ideas to the major and is an asset to the IT department.
