Katie is definitely one of the most patient and thorough instructors I have taken. When doing example calculus problems on the board, she would constantly ask if the class was following and if they needed any clarification. She also avoids confusing mathematical jargon when explaining new material. If you want to pass the class with at least a B, I suggest taking lots of notes and asking questions if you do not understand a concept. The homework load is enough to keep you occupied however, so make sure you do not save it until the night before.

In my opinion, Katie is the ideal teacher. She teaches in a clear, coherent, and structured manner, making all the concepts tie into each other and make sense. She is very patient and if you have any questions, she will clarify and explain them until they are made clear. She assigns a fair amount of homework and her tests are very fair, nothing too easy, nothing too hard. Katie is a great teacher. Take her class.

Standard calc 1, no big surprises here. She collects a weekly homework assignment that counts toward a pretty good portion of your grade (something like 25% when I took her). Attendance is optional except days homework is turned in and tests obviously. I feel Vaughan presented the material thoroughly and always considered students needs during lecture. Very helpful during office hours! Take her if you want a good learning experience, but if you're already a calc whiz, consider a teacher that doesn't give a weekly homework assignment.

Katie is a professional, clear, realistic, and personable teacher. She always comes to class prepared, and she really knows her stuff. It's obvious that she takes her job very seriously, and that makes her a really excellent teacher. She always makes sure the class is understanding the material being presented, and her explanations to questions are thorough, understandable, and concise. She gives two midterms, which she makes very easy. She does this so they're reasonable to complete in the 50 minutes given which is very fair. But don't be caught off guard, she makes her final is at least three times harder because of all the time to take the test. If you've never taken calculus before, be prepared to study a lot and go to most office hours. That will pretty much guarantee you an A in this class. I highly recommend Katie, she really is the ideal teacher.

I really enjoyed Katie's (as she will tell you to call her) class. She's a former Poly student and she gets what its like to be a student here. There is some HW, but it's a fair amount (not too much) and keeps you up to date with the material. She seems fine as a teacher, although it's hard to tell because I already knew the material. Get her to tell you bad math jokes.

Katie's lectures are always very clear. She has notes ready beforehand and is able to explain things well with plenty of examples. No calculators were allowed on her tests but she designs them so that if you understand the concepts, the numbers work out fine. She is very approachable both in class and in office hours and she is willing to help with problems students have.

At first, I didn't like Katie. She seemed too young and too eager. As the quarter continued and I started working with her, I began to like her more and more. She caters completely to the students; her office is very welcoming, she offered several opportunities to take the final, emails back promptly, and is just an good person! She encourages questions and acknowledges that some subjects are harder than others, so she takes more care to explain it extensively. Take the class if you can.

Absolutely amazing professor! She presents the material so clearly and is more than willing to help students if they are struggling. She moves at a perfect pace and is clear and straightforward with test material and what she wants out of her students. Her office hours are extremely helpful and she is so approachable. Take her and you will be happy! I am :)

Katie is awesome!! I had her for 141 and 142 and both classes were 2 of the best math classes i've ever had. I had seen calc 141 before coming to cal poly, but I still felt that katie presented the material clearly and easily to follow, especially since calc 1 is so important because it is your foundation for the series. Same goes for calc 2. She goes over examples slowly in class (and not ones straight from the book) and takes time to clarify and answer questions. Homework is very important, it will definately make or break you if you have a bubble grade, so take it seriously!!! However it is not too much. She is reasonable and is ALWAYS available for office hours (id highly reccommend going to all if possible, they are EXTREMELY helpful!!!). Plus she bases her tests off the level of the homework. No weekly quizzes. 2 midterms and a final, each 25% of your grade, but everything is reasonable and no surprises. GREAT PROFESSOR. GREAT CLASS. TAKE KATIE IF YOU CAN! :)
