Dr. Martinez is one of the nicest and most caring teachers I have ever had. He enjoys teaching and is very kind when you go into office hours for help. His lectures are slow paced which makes the class a little more boring than it should be. He presents information clearly and you should not be afraid to ask him questions during the lecture if you are not understanding something. I slept through a lecture and he let me retake the quiz from that day in his office hour. I had a similar incident for the final exam and he was nice enough to give me time afterward to finish. Although Martinez is very kind and is pretty good at presenting material to students, his exams are extremely difficult. It's like he tries to make it harder than chemistry should be. The only part of his class that gave me trouble were his exams, expecially the final. Take Martinez if you want a good overall teacher but not if you don't want to be studying alot more than necessary before exams.

Dr. Martinez is by far my favorite professor. He genuinely cares about his students and will guide them to actually understand the material. He always has a good attitude and doesn't make you feel incompetent when you can't figure out the material. Martinez is the only reason that I enjoyed Chem, and I truly wished he taught a 127 lecture! TAKE MARTINEZ.

Martinez is a great professor. He was able to stay on track and present most of the material that we needed to get through. If he couldn't get through everything he wanted to, he would alter the tests to make them based on what we learned. Due to time limits, he can only briefly cover many of the topics. It is important to do all the hw questions and go to as many office hours as you can.

Dr. Martinez is awesome. He did a great job presenting the material and was always so enthusiastic in class. I got a C because i'm not great with chemistry, not because Dr. Martinez isn't a good professor. Definitely take him if you know you will struggle with chemisty. Also make good use of his office hours, he is always willing to help!

I had to retake chem 127 my sophomore year, and the second time around I took it with Dr. Martinez. Chem is obviously not one of my strong suits, but Dr. Martinez was so great, I ended up with a B in his class and continued on to chem 128 and 129. I had to spend a lot of time in his office hours and attend all of his review sessions, but every time I talked to him he was a tremendous help. He's very clear and concise, and always willing to show examples. I highly recommend taking Dr. Martinez if you struggle in chemistry, and if you do, take advantage of his office hours even if you are a fly on the wall while other students ask questions.

Martinez is a great professor. He goes the extra mile for his students and really wants you to succeed. Go to his office hours and review sessions, this is where he is most helpful and will answer your individual questions. Like others have said Martinez is the man!

The guy is friendly but I'm pretty sure he has some mental problem, because a he is always smiling and b he makes so many many mistakes in his lecture. i find it hard to believe he came to cal poly becuase he seems so simple and deperate. I love him but we/he are not long for us. NOTE: Raquel Espinosa died several minutes after this death.

Dr. Martinez is such a nice and caring guy. He really wants his students to succeed and chem is a hard subject but he makes it fair and a lot easier than it could be if he just left his students to their own devices. The 3 hr class is a really long time for chem but Martinez is such a cool guy it makes it bearable. If you can take him!

OH MY GOD I love this man!!! He is literally such a great professor. I did a terrible job myself of focusing and utilizing the resources he gives you. What you need to succeed in this class: Go to class everyday( I went everyday and still probably getting a C so this is not JUST it), do ALLLL the practice problems, read the textbook!!!!!!, go to office hours(he is GREAT help), and read the labs before doing them, lastly join a study session. His tests are pretty hard but not unbearable. Martinez is always smiling and just overall a great professor, he knows everything he is talking about and is just so so sweet. great guy 10/10 would recommend

Dr. Martinez is a great teacher and presents information very clearly. The class moves extremely quickly, however, which means you cover 3 to 4 topics per day which can be very overwhelming. Additionally, the course is very focused on "active learning" which is helpful sometimes but also sometimes translates into students getting assigned graded assignments on topics that have not even been mentioned in class yet. Also, from friends in Chem 127 classes with other professors, I learned that Dr. Martinez provides the least amount of opportunities to increase your grade. Other classes got to drop their lowest midterm scores or do test corrects for credit or even got extra credit opportunities and Dr. Martinez "doesn't believe" in this sort of thing, making the class very difficult.

Martinez is amazing!! I came into this class, not a science person at all (And really scared) but he truly is a great teacher, great at explaining and made the whole experience bearable. Definitely recommend going to office hours and signing up for a workshop or SS as well -- obviously the class is a lot of work, but Professor Martinez is so kind and good at explaining the material. It is super doable to pass/do well in this class -- just go to office hours and really utilize the resources provided to you!!

The instructor is clearly very knowledgeable when it comes to chemistry. It is naturally a more difficult course, but he does well in making it very clear what is due and what he expects from his students.

I love Dr. Martinez!! I had him for 127 and liked him so much that I took him for 128! He made chemistry very enjoyable and allowed me to discover it as one of my favorite subjects! I am now in 129 and am preparing to take the Organic Chemistry series this year. He is super passionate and enthusiastic, presents material clearly, and offers A TON of resources for you to study with! The trick is to actually use them! He is super approachable and his office hours are always very very helpful (SO GO TO THEM)! His exams are a bit hard but you just need to prepare well and be able to think. Honestly, Martinez's exams prepared me really for 129, which I currently have a strong A in. His exams will be hard at first but later professors will seem easy in comparison and you'll probably do better. What you don't realize is how well Martinez forces you to understand the material to do well on his exams, and this just sets you up for success in later classes. I honestly can't say enough positives about Dr. Martinez. He truly is one of my favorite professors

Great professor! Probably the best I have had at cal poly so far. He explains everything in lecture and lab, and is really helpful during office hours. On top of it all he is always smiling and in a good mood! One of the nicer professors on campus!

Dr. Martinez is one of the best professors in Cal Poly. He can be little goofy sometimes, but that's probably one of his best traits because he is very approachable. He may not be able to cover the topics well during lectures, but if you go to his office hours for extra help, or even in lab after you finish your experiment, he'll answer your question with 100% sincerity. And let's be honest here, he's probably in his late 20's ~ early 30's and got his Ph.D in Harvard for goodness sake, he's a freaking genius!

I did well in quant lab and it's 100% because of Dr. Martinez! If you are looking for a teacher who sincerely cares about their students, Dr. Martinez is the professor for you. He was always willing to answer questions during and after lab, whether they were difficult or completely obvious questions. He is always smiling which makes him very approachable. Cal Poly needs more professors like Dr. Martinez.

During this entire quarter all I could think about was how this professor reminded me of that small little dog that runs through the back of scene 23 in The Incredibles by Pixar. Seriously, if you look it up you will only be able to see it...
