this class was honestly so interesting and full of so much great information, but lathrop was such a hard grader. she presented so much information in class & didn't offer a study guide so often when studying for a midterm i'd waste time studying things that didn't matter when really 25% of the test was a list of food additives that she said we didn't need to know. and even when half the class failed this page, she suggested that we study harder. i really like lathrop as a person but honestly this class & her expectations of us were ridiculous.

She presents way too much information in her power points. She also loves to just read off of them. Yeah the class was an intro class, but bottom line..way too much information for the tests. Tough grader. Didn't take an fsn class the following quarter because she was the one teaching it and i simply needed a break from her after that quarter.

She likes to just read off powerpoints which is kind of annoying but she knows a lot and does try to clarify things for people. She puts the powerpoints on polylearn too which helps, but there's a lot of information in there so try not to cram it all in right before the midterms. I had her for lab too, so if you do MAKE SURE the reports are in the right format because you will lose points on points if you don't. My group got like 35/100 on the first lab report. She's a really nice lady, I just don't know if she's the best for an intro course.

Professor Lathrop is a very knowledgeable woman and gives a lot of information during her lectures. I attended every class during the quarter and took in depth notes off of her PowerPoints. When it came time to the tests, she did not give a study guide but the PowerPoints gave some direction as to study topics. I felt that there was a great deal of surplus information that was not on the exams, but still interesting items to learn Overall, Dr.Lathrop is a very nice woman but to succeed in the class you MUST study hard for the exams as there are only 2 exams in the lecture portion of the class. This class was a great introduction into Food Science.

Very impersonal. Terrible first professor to have coming in as a freshman. Gave points based on her definition of professionalism. One of my biggest problems was she told all the females how to dress because in the work force men get distracted by what you wear, came off very sexist--in the fact that she is worried about what men will think of women in a professional setting.

Just memorize her slides and you will get an A. Take notes. She is an incredible professor who will push you to think critically. There is an importance of professionalism and criticism because it help prepares you for the real world. You will eventually realize that everything she says or does, is for your own good. Don't switch your major just because you had a bad class with her. Besides, not everything is about grades. Your career path is dependent upon your passion and hard work, so if you put in the effort and still get a bad grade, just do better in her next class.

She makes you dress in 'professional attire' every week...when the building lacks a/c and you sit there listening to her read directly from the slides, sweating buckets. Its miserable. Extremely dissapointed in this class; the lab and lecture are NOT focused on creating an interesting, motivating learning experience, rather, they focus on going through the motions.

She is tough, but very knowledgeable. Her teaching skills are still going through some growing pains but bear with it. She's actually very open to feedback on how to improve the class. Her tests are very fair, I say. If you pay attention in class and take good notes, you'll be fine. People who complain that she's too hard doesn't understand that Cal Poly, overall, is a very easy school in terms of sciences. Try going to a bigger university where you have 300 students in an auditorium and you can't ask questions cause you're all the way in the back. Lathrop is going to shape up the future of food science. Other teachers in this dept. are too easy.
