I took her class with the other teacher being Ritter who was AMAZING, but Schutz... not so much. I know she was sick for some of the quarter but that's no excuse for her really bad lectures. She would mess up on something almost every lecture and sometimes no one would point it out and I'm sure that lead to confusion. Sometimes she would mess up and notice it, then without saying she messed up she would cross it out and keep going. You'd probably be better off not going to the lectures and just learning from the book. The one redeeming thing about her is that she includes course objectives that are basically all you need to know for the tests. Also, the tests are pretty easy because she only includes pathways or names of things there's really no conceptual questions. She's boring and I would not recommend her but she's easy.

Dr. Schutz was okay for lecture. She made some jokes every once in a while. I had her with Dr. Ritter (taught the plant section) for BIO 162. She seems like she knows a lot about animals, but made some mistakes during lecture, which she caught every once in a while. The most helpful part is the list of objectives that she makes for each chapter so you know what is going to be on the test.

She's all right. Just all right. I found her a bit unpleasant outside of class, though. As a lecturer, she's a bit scattered, and some of the material is presented too quickly, while other material is taught far too slowly. There's a significant portion of her objectives list that is not covered in lecture. But her objectives are an excellent study tool for the midterm; the class would've been much harder without them.

Her voice is very difficult to listen to, especially in the morning. Her powerpoint slides are good and prepare you for tests fairly well. She wasted alot of lecture time with lecture activities that really didn't help much. She's really smart and knows what she's talking about but her voice really annoyed me. Take her if you don't have many other good teacher options.

Her lectures are well informative, and she knows how to present material for the most part. What's great about her is that she provides objectives and lots of videos. What really bothers me, though, is that in her objectives she has questions which she did not cover and requires you to learn them yourself. For example, gene recombination is a fairly tough topic to grasp and she does not go over this at all. This is a huge topic in immunology, and is very important for T and B cell differentiation. Basically what this tells me is that she doesn't understand the process so she can't teach it properly, and overall makes you learn it by yourself because its a part of the curriculum of the class. Overall she's not that great

I did not like her at all. She comes off as rude and unapproachable. It is clear that she knows a lot but she rushes through the material sometimes and doesn't always present the material clearly. Her tests are difficult and very specific. If you can, definitely take a different teacher.

Do not take Schutz. Her tests are ridiculous and hard. Her questions are always worded weird so even if you think you know everything about a specific subject, you will probably get the wrong answer. Biology 162 is not supposed to be very difficult but she makes it that way with her tests. During lecture she is very dry and you might fall asleep in a morning class. Avoid taking her if you can. You will regret it after seeing the grade on your first midterm.

Dr. Schutz is a very smart woman and wants her students to do well. She is very helpful in office hours and very approachable. She also allows for up to 10 points of extra credit which is practically unheard of in college. Dr. Schutz also provides a practice exam before each midterm. She also has a quiz every lab, in order to prep her students for the big practical. This class is 5 units, so you have a study a substantial amount, but a lot of it is very interesting. Take Dr. Schutz!

I respect this lady! Very smart. Lectures were entertaining and tests weren't too bad as long as you go over lecture notes. She puts all sorts of videos/powerpoints/study guides up on blackboard which helped immensely when it came time to study. One note of advice: take the practicals seriously!! Those things will murder your grade if you don't watch out.

It is clear the Dr. Schutz is incredibly knowledgeable about the class material and I highly suggest her. Her lectures go really quickly and she talks non stop so 2 hours lectures kind of turn into information overload. I suggest that you print out her slides off blackboard before each lecture even if you aren't a visual learner. There are a ton of diagrams on there and if you have to copy them down in your notes during lecture there is absolutely no way you can follow what shes saying at the time. Shes very willing to answer questions if she goes too fast or makes anything unclear. Shes uses clickers to get a better sense of what student do and don't get. Though there is a lot of memorization and material covered, I think the tests are really fair and there aren't any trick questions.

I highly respect Dr. Schutz- she is a wealth of knowledge and I think she's a great speaker. She presents everything as clearly as possible (although she moves pretty fast sometimes) and is always willing to answer questions. This class is not easy and requires lots of studying and memorization, but I really like the way she ran lecture and lab. I definitely recommend her.

Dr. Schutz is AWESOME. Lectures can be a bit dry (and if it is late, hard to stay awake), but she conveys information super clearly. All of her slides are online, so if you missed something you can always go back. She is incredibly helpful during office hours. If you get her for lab, you are in luck, she is way more relaxed (probably because she isn't standing in front of a huge crowd of people), and is even a bit goofy at times. Overall, look forward to ZOO with her, you will learn a lot, and it will stick with you.

Recorded all the lectures, and re-wrote the notes almost word for word from the recorder. Looking to sell copies of my notes. I got high A's on all the tests just by using these notes I wrote down from the tape recorder. Text me at 831-239-9489 if your interested in buying a set of the notes. As far as the class goes. It was faced paced but really interesting and Heidi was really helpful by answering any questions even if they were totally random. No lab reports, just practicals which was also pretty cool.

She talks way to fast and half the time only addresses the front row of students. She has power issues and will turn the lights on and off to get the attention of her students. Her students don't pay attention because nothing she says is worth listening to. Memorize an anatomy textbook and you'll be fine for the exams.
