We just watched movies in class. But when it comes to the midterm, he puts the questions online and you can get all the answers that you need for the midterm. I haven't taken the final yet, but the study guide is on blackboard for help.

Easiest class I think I've ever taken. David Hey is amazing. So approachable in class and in office hours. He sends practice tests for the midterm and final which look almost exactly the same as the real thing. He assigns 2 or 3 homework assignments every week but the assignments are easy and it gives you a cushion so your grade doesn't rely on 2 tests. Make sure answers on homework are descriptive because sometimes he deducts points if you're answer is too short. TAKE DAVID HEY! It'll be the easiest A you've ever gotten.

Not that hard of a class. He generally shows documentaries and has you fill out a note sheet during lecture. Show up for lectures, read the book, and you'll be fine.

The tests are simple, this class is very simple. During class he outlines the test questions well. We watched movies during the lecture and filled out questions about them while watching. This class is so easy that it's hard sometimes- I second guessed myself on the first midterm and failed it! But I shouldn't have, it was very easy. Went in and spoke with him about the test and he went over every question I got wrong with me and helped me out with a few extra points. Hey is great about offering EC. Get the book because he does test from it for the first quiz (which is his version of a midterm). I hope my eval was helpful because none of the other ones below were for me.

For the first 3 or 4 weeks I though Dr. Hey was going to be a decent teacher because he lets you out early all the time. However now I realise he is terrible! All his assignments are turned in online, and since his graders can\'t open your film answer sheets, he gives you a 0 on them. I\'ve emailed him about 10 times about this problem and he still hasn\'t fixed the problem. Then, he sends you a midterm study guide which you think is basically the midterm because in essence that\'s what is sais at the end of the test. However, it isnt and I got a 80% on it. Overall take this class if you want to have a class from 8 to 10 pm at night and only watch movies that are then not graded and want to deal with a teacher who doesn\'t actually do anything with the class!

David Hey is a very immature, lazy man who has figured out a way to make money doing nothing. I had him for KINE 255, and the only day he actually taught was the first day of class. This consisted of him lumbering around the room and rambling incoherently about medusa and other meaningless tangents. After this first class, I guess he felt his job was done and did absolutely nothing! The rest of this class was spent watching movies, and you have to show up and fill out the worksheets that go along with them. Mind you he doesn’t actually write them (he doesn’t do anything, did I already say that? oh well its worth repeating), they come with the educational package the book comes with. So do his exams, and all the other assignments. He is one of those hipster kids who never grew up. He's got to be mid to late forties, and he acts like he's some twenty two to twenty five year old living in a shitty apartment. He is only a teacher because he would never survive real life outside academia. The class wasn’t hard, it's just amazing to see such a worthless professor in action. Don’t take this guy, he is a nuisance to society and an embarrassment to Cal Poly. On an unrelated note, he is a very snappy dresser.

If you like teachers that show up habitually late to class, test you on material you haven't learned, can't convey material well and won't make any real attempt to, won't take you seriously in office hours and doesn't actually teach, then take Dr. Hey. He fails on all aspects as a teacher and should be fired from Cal Poly ASAP. The only reason someone below has rated him higher than a 0 would probably be because he is a nice guy, however he fails on so many levels as a teacher I have no sympathy for him at all.

Agree with those below me. This guy is an idiot. I've had lots of professors I didn't like, but I knew were quite smart. Not this fellow. I'm an ESL tutor, and I see a lot of similarities between the grammar on his tests and my ESL student's grammar. Seriously. English is his first (and I'm guessing only) language. I have no respect for this man. I am insulted at the level of education I was offered by this class. I'm angry I was forced to pay $500 or so (tuition money) to be shown publicly available television programming. That's literally all we did in class. The fact that this man can be a college professor makes me lose a little faith in humanity. Honest to god I feel like I'm in "Idiocracy" when I'm in his class.

I had Dr. Hey for Kine 255 and received an A. I strongly feel that I now hold a General Concentration in the David Hey art of laziness. He taught me how to skip class, do HW the hour before class, and wing the midterms and final. He shows no desire to teach, and I felt like each day in lecture was virtually impossible to sit through so I usually went home. So in conclusion, YOU CANNOT PICK A WORSE PROFESSOR FOR A COURSE. ANYONE THAT GAVE THIS GUY A GOOD RATING IS A) THE PROFESSOR HIMSELF or B) SOME LOSER WHO RECEIVED HIS ONLY "A" AT CAL POLY FROM THIS GUY.

This class presents alot of interesting material and I am glad I took it but it was a joke of a class. I can count on one hand the amount of times we stayed in class the whole 2 hours and rarely did we do anything besides watch a video. The course was a group discussion and book report, 2 midterms and a final and he gives a very thorough study guide for each that if you do you will ace it. Do the extra credit and you will get an EASY A. Prof. Hey is really nice and accomodating I'm bummed I didn't go to his office hours more he's a cool guy.

Dr. Hey is easy-going and understanding. His lectures aren't lectures, but video time (which I quite frankly enjoyed). I do not understand why he has such low ratings because my classmates and I think he is awesome! Dr. Hey makes himself readily available to his students when they have questions or concerns. There is also no reason why anyone should fail this class or skip class.

I don't know what these people are talking about, this class is HARD. Probably the hardest GE i've taken at Cal Poly. I went to office hours and studied for every test and still failed all of them. He makes you read long books and do a speech in front of the class of 200 PEOPLE about the book. And he grades very harshly. THIS CLASS IS NOT A JOKE, VERY DIFFICULT GE

Take this class if you're looking for an easy A. Also, take it with friends.. it makes it way more entertaining. He showed a video every day, and I don't think the class once lasted the full 2 hours. There were 2 midterms (that I studied about 1/2 an hour before and still managed to get 98% on both), a 3-4 page essay on a health book, and a final that he gives you most of the answers to prior to taking it.

Dr. Hey is one of the worst "teachers" ever but he just shows videos every class and there is required reading from the textbook. You have to read the book! The test questions are from the book material and videos. Hey does not teach at all for the whole quarter. The hardest part of the class is coming to class, writing a few book reports throughout the quarter, and studying for the tests (which is not that bad). You can also get extra credit throughout the quarter. Take this class to get an easy A.

One of the glaring characteristics of this class and this professor that I am surprised has not been mentioned on any of the polyratings I've read is his blatant indoctrination of his students with his extremely radical socialist agenda. When a true/false test question asks if a socialist/marxist society would lead to better health in the United States and you lose points for marking false there is foul play at work. There are numerous times during the class where Dr. Hey's radical political opinions are displayed as fact and a student is punished for not agreeing with him. I am appalled that this is a required class basically mandated by the federal government because it fulfills the United States Cultural Pluralism requirement. This teacher and this class were a waste of my time and my money.

Dr. Hey is the most lackadaisical and incompetent teacher I have encountered at Poly. It is a shame that students are required to take this class. I'm not sure what he gets paid for. The context of the class- 'Health Disparities in the US' which could be an interesting topic, but not in this class. I question the credibility of the course content because diet is completely ignored as a factor which contributes to health. According to this class, race, socioeconomic status, and stress are the only factors that contribute to health disparities, and that is simply not the case. I figured that out when he stated that 'people in the southeast suffer from the poorest health because of racism'. Or is the the deep fried corn nuggets that they are eating?! Duh. The course content could have been summed up in one week, but instead is dragged out for a whole quarter. He doesn't lecture even ONCE, and still can't keep up with grading. Lazy teacher, but an easy 'A'.

The class was pretty easy. Not much homework, and the class rarely went over an hour. Dr. Hey is a horrible teacher. I think he lectured once for about 10 mins. The rest of the time, you just watch movies. If anything brings down your grade, it will be the tests. Many questions are from specific parts of the reading. Waste of my money and time.

Dr. Hey is a nice guy, but an incompetent teacher. Kine 255 consists of watching several documentaries (the scripts are listed online, so if you miss a class or two, it really doesn't matter), answering online discussion questions and writing a book report on a book that emphasizes health disparities. I read 50 pages out of my 430+ page book and received a 93% on my paper. I read 2 chapters out of the recommended text book and still passed the midterms with B's or A's. Dr. Hey is also a bit of a socialist. I am surprised with the opinions he was allowed to test on. And what the hell is up with the "true, false and "I don't know Dr. Hey?!" answer choices on exams? He also made us watch a movie about the history of the United States, one of which was not at all related to health disparities. He stated towards the end of the quarter that we were not going to be tested on it and that film was simply a "time filler." I found that to be extremely inappropriate.

Pretty good teacher. All we did was watch movies and documentaries throughout the entire quarter. He clearly stated to study the notes we had from the movies because the majority of the test questions were coming straight from the movie worksheets. He also gave us study guides that covered almost everything on every test. Really laid back guy, funny sometimes. Pretty much a guaranteed B, and if you study SOME, an A.

I enjoyed Kine 255 as a whole. It's a very easy class but personally I though the course material was very interesting. People below have mentioned that they had problems with turning online stuff in late. In my experience if you go up to him after class and politely explain the issue and show that you did the assignment he is very willing to try and give you as many point as he can. Lots of extra credit opportunities though the blood drive and any 5k run, marathon, etc. Some of the questions on the exams are worded strangely but he is very helpful and will sometimes I've you the answer if you ask for clarification about a question. Class got out an hour early most days!

He doesn't do anything, he just shows a movie every single day. The tests are from the movies and you have to do a writeup on every movie, so its kinda hard to just ditch class unless you have friends in the class, or you wont know what the movies were about. he sucks as a teacher, and tells lame jokes. on the plus side, he often lets you out early and cancels class. also, he says he gives out different versions of the tests, but they are all the same, and the classes are huge, so sit together and work together. If you just want to get an easy A and get this GE over with, then this class is ok. But he really is just a horrible professor.

I will try to be as unbiased as possible. This is a useless class. Avoid it at all cost. you really learn nothing, but you do a lot of busy work for it, e.g. book report, volunteer hour (not so much that, but it's more of the 5-7 page paper talking about your feelings after the volunteer experience), useless readings, weekly forums and movie worksheets that's graded based on completion. the teacher is quite biased like previously comments, and really does not do anything in the class besides showing movies. he has graders that does EVERYTHING for him, he doesn't even know when there are quizzes in the class. really. avoid this unless absolutely necessary. yes, this is an easy A, but the busy work makes it not worth it.

This class was huge, but pretty interesting. You basically just watch a bunch of videos, take quizzes every week, and read a chapter in the book he assigns. You have two major projects: a book report and 10 hrs of community service. The book report is graded really easily, so don't sweat it, get the hours done earlier in the quarter (they go by faster than you would think), and you should be solid.

Hey definitely doesn't teach you, his movies teach you. Every class you have a "pop quiz" (which he tells you about in advanced) and a movie with a movie worksheet. There is an online forum due every week and you have to read one book and do a book report on it. He has two exams and a final. Overall easy to get a good grade in the class, with not too much too worry about. The class isn't hard at all. You go in twice a week, watch a one hour film each class, and fill out a worksheet on it. You take easy quizzes on the text book, you write a simple book report on a book outside of class, and take tests that he basically posts the answer keys to online. The only thing I can say is if you take this class, DO THE COMMUNITY SERVICE. I know it's only 10% of the grade but YOU WILL NOT RECEIVE CREDIT IF YOU DO NOT DO THE COMMUNITY SERVICE. He didn't make this clear at all, and the community service wasn't even listed in the "requirements" section of the syllabus. I had a 93% in the class and failed because I didn't do the service work.

Honestly, you can't really rate Dr.Hey, he doesn't teach. You go to class, take a ridiculously easy quiz, watch a 40 minute movie, and leave. The amount of time I spent on the class a week (including time IN class, homework and studying) was about 2-3 hours. The hardest part was finding a community service place to get hours done, but all that required was three Saturday mornings for me. You have three tests, a 5 page book report and a 5 page paper on your community service. The papers are graded more on completion than anything else. Take this class for an easy A, its a great choice if you have other tough classes!

For a course on the sensitive subject of inequalities in the medical industry, Dr. Hey is heavy handed and ignorant. The course material is out of date and insensitive. Almost all of it comes from a single source that repeats variations on the same information. His multiple choice exams rely on shaky semantics for absurdly specific answers, and he is unwilling to hear student suggestions or complaints. Not the right professor for this course.

Pretty mellow guy. His class was easy but very interesting. It would be hard not to learn, and I mean that in a good way. He shows a lot of documentaries instead of teaching, but it is very effective and interesting. I actually looked forward to his class each week. So first off, I got an A in this course. If you can even call it a college course. Dr. Hey did not lecture once. The whole quarter consisted of watching a documentary series in class, usually taking up only half an hour out of a two hour lecture. We had reading from a book, very easy homework, and easy midterms. Dr. Hey and his curriculum are socialist, and if you do not answer every question without "socialism is the best way" in mind, you will not get them correct. This is a sad excuse for a college course and a waste of your tuition money, but sadly in our GPA-driven society, it's worth it for the easy A.

Drug education with Dr.Hey was by far the easiest class I have ever taken. You need to textbook, and you need to read it because there is a quiz every class period. The quizzes (or pop quizzes as he calls them) are 10 questions, usually all true/false, really easy common sense questions especially if you did the reading. There are 2 midterms (or quizzes as he calls them). These midterms are the quiz questions EXACTLY, all compiled into an exam; both of them took me about 10 minutes to finish and I got over perfect scores both times. Oh yeah, he gives extra credit too, each quiz has at least one extra credit question. The final basically just combined the two midterms. There is a book report with a presentation and a written part, but I felt like he really just graded them on completion. There are also online forums that you need to complete every week by Sunday. Again they are just graded for completion and are mostly opinion questions anyway, so super easy. This class is a great GPA booster, and also great to take if you have a heavy load otherwise. Dr. Hey is cool, he just lets the book and documentaries teach his class instead of teaching it himself, which isn't that bad
