Avoid her at all costs. Be prepared to teach yourself the whole quarter. You are tested on material not covered in class or in the homework. Don't expect class to be any help and office hours are abysmal. It wouldn't be that bad as it is only 141 except she pulls the most arbitrary examples out of the book to use. The book and the Internet are your friend.

I am a good student who rarely gets below a B, but this class destroyed me. Dr. Schinck does not teach the material in a useful manner, I learned what I did from my Engineer friends. She does not recognize when students are having a problem, which was an issue for me as I struggled day after day to comprehend her lectures. She tests on things that are not in lecture or the homework. I would not recommend her at all.

I worked so hard for this class, but it didnt help at all. I got A's in all my other classes, and a D+ in Schinck's class, and was NOT from being lazy, it was because of her INABILITY to teach. DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS. She knows math, but she does NOT know how to present information clearly, let alone help students in need. I was in her office hours every week for 4 weeks straight looking for help. She teachers her class as if you have already taken Calc 1 before, which I hadn't. Even the kids who did AP calc in high school struggled with low C's barely making it into calc 2. I am re-taking Calc 1 because of Schinck and i got in with Anton Kaul who is an AMAZING teacher. Already I can tell that he knows his stuff, and especially how to teach it. DO NOT TAKE SCHINCK'S CLASS.

Professor Schinck is a good math professor, she lectures in a way that presents the material well and is a nice person too. Her tests are really easy if you understand the basic concepts of the class, quiz questions were a little tougher in my opinion, and you can turn in homework a day late for only one letter grade drop. I would recommend her for Calc 1.

She has two midterms and a comprehensive final. She has both math bookwork for homework and written assignments for homework. She seems nice but is not very helpful. I did not feel like time was used very efficiently because little was done in each class. Most of the time she allowed group work which resulted in most groups talking about anything except for math. She does not post grades so if you want to know your grade YOU HAVE to go into her office hours. She uses blackboard but does not use the grading portion of it. She claims to have no attendance policy.

I am SO surprised by the negative reviews. I absolutely love professor Schinck and am so happy I have the opportunity to have her my next two quarters as well. She is so knowledgeable in mathematics and is very passionate about teaching. She lectures in a way that is engaging and easy to understand. I would recommend her to anyone!

Amelie is one of the most precise and effective professors I have ever taken at Poly. I took the LS math series with her all four quarters and I had a great experience. She is always challenging her students and piquing our interest in math with her enthusiastic and versatile style of teaching.

Amelie is one of the best professors I have ever had! I would take her for any subject as her passion for teaching and math easily shines through. I had a tough quarter and she was understanding and allowed me to turn assignments in online when I couldn't come to class. She is also my only professor this quarter who has taken the time to learn the names of everyone in the class.
