OK, to start off the two negative evaluations a couple under me are either written by idiots or people that don't care. His quizzes are totally fair and straight off the lecture. I studied five minutes for the first got a D, realized I needed to put more effort and studied 1-2 hours for the second one and ended up getting an A on it. His lectures can be slightly boring but he tells you so himself. Overall it's a fairly interesting class and I think hes a great professor. MURPHY IS THE HOMIE.

Coolest CE professor I ever had. His quizzes were pretty hard and sometimes he would choose a random book problem that resembles the week's homework and use it. I did poorly on the first few quizzes but it gets easier. Reviewing your homework won't be enough. You need to choose random problems in the book and make sure you know how to set it up at least. I had 4-5 bad quizzes (60% or lower) and 3-4 decent quizzes. The midterm was easy. The average was a 68 for my quarter. Murphy will prepare you really well for the final. The only professors teaching this class my quarter was Murphy and Elgandor. All my friends in elgandor's class got wrecked on the final while most of Murphy's students did well above the average. A high midterm grade, high final grade, and low quiz grade gave me a B. Murphy is a cool cat.

This guy rocks.
Awesome lecturer, and very helpful in office hours. He has taken all of these classes and understands how to solve student misunderstandings. The class was very straightforward and stuck to everything on the syllabus, and if there were any changes he was always in contact. Take him if you want to learn the material and have a great time.
