I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.

“Atticus said to Jem one day, “I’d rather you shot at tin cans in the backyard, but I know you’ll go after birds. Shoot all the blue jays you want, if you can hit ‘em, but remember it’s a sin to kill a mockingbird.” That was the only time I ever heard Atticus say it was a sin to do something, and I asked Miss Maudie about it. “Your father’s right,” she said. “Mockingbirds don’t do one thing except make music for us to enjoy. They don’t eat up people’s gardens, don’t nest in corn cribs, they don’t do one thing but sing their hearts out for us. That’s why it’s a sin to kill a mockingbird.” – Harper Lee, To Kill a Mockingbird

“Hello babies. Welcome to Earth. It’s hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It’s round and wet and crowded. On the outside, babies, you’ve got a hundred years here. There’s only one rule that I know of, babies-“God damn it, you’ve got to be kind.” – Kurt Vonnegut, God Bless You, Mr. Rosewater

We believe that we can change the things around us in accordance with our desires—we believe it because otherwise we can see no favourable outcome. We do not think of the outcome which generally comes to pass and is also favourable: we do not succeed in changing things in accordance with our desires, but gradually our desires change. The situation that we hoped to change because it was intolerable becomes unimportant to us. We have failed to surmount the obstacle, as we were absolutely determined to do, but life has taken us round it, led us beyond it, and then if we turn round to gaze into the distance of the past, we can barely see it, so imperceptible has it become.

Dr. Nazmi is not the worst teacher I've had... but he is most certainly not the best. It wasn't that the class was extremely difficult either. The material was pretty straightforward and his powerpoints had all of the details needed for the tests. The reason why I graded him so low was because I didn't like how he approached the class or the material. Sometimes I felt like he had an "arrogant" attitude, for lack of a better word. He definitely lets you know if you're not participating and you need to participate quite a bit to get the full points. He says that if he can associate your name with a face then you are good to go. I felt like I participated quite a bit (enough to bring me way out of my comfort zone) but he STILL had a hard time remembering my name at the end of the quarter. The worst part of it was that when I did say something (that maybe wasn't interesting enough?) he would kind of brush it off and continue on to the next person. If I didn't do the 35 points or so of extra credit during the quarter, I would definitely have not gotten the A-. I did horribly on the midterms but got full credit on the extra credit which made up for it. The exams are pretty tough. The final was surprisingly detailed. There are 2 "Cultural Project" papers that are easy. I would recommend NOT stressing about them too much because I got full points on them and didn't feel confident that my papers were spectacular or anything. The Cultural Project group presentation is what really killed me. I put so many hours into the presentation and food presentation what we got a C on it. He was on his computer for a majority of the presentations anyway which explains a lot. Dr. Nazmi does not seem to have a definitive idea of the way to teach this class yet since I'm pretty sure this was his first quarter teaching at Cal Poly. The one 25-point extra credit paper was originally required but since it was on the actual syllabus, he decided to make it EC. Honestly, I never left this class with a good feeling inside. I always felt kind of unsuccessful because of the participation which Dr. Nazmi emphasizes greatly. Random tidbit that I know bothered a few people in the class including me: Dr. Nazmi paces like CRAZY. He walks back and forth and back and forth across the classroom.

EASY AF CLASS. I took FSN 250 as an online class. Easiest class I've ever taken at CP. Weekly work loads but you pretty much get 100% if you attempt them. Nazmi's super helpful if you email him with questions. There's two essays to write but super easy so just do them cuz they're easy points. All the quiz answers can be found on quizlet if you google them during the quiz. All info on final is from the book and lecture slides but i didn't peep at those and still got an A in the class. Do the extra credit if he gives you any cuz it's super easy and boosts ur grade a shit ton. K bai.

This class is ridiculously easy (when ONLINE, 0.75-1.5 hrs/wk). The easy point participation-discussions make you feel like you're commenting about issues on social media. Besides the two essays about food or culture, literally the rest of the work, the quizzes, could be done by using CTRL+F. Highly recommend even though the material on culture is a little whack. If you're looking for easy A, this is your best bet. If you're looking for an interesting GE D4, try Psy201.

This class was really easy. I would definitely recommend that you take it because I took this class online and it was a breeze. The professor presents material clearly in video lecture and the discussion posts are easy, you just have to do them. Also there are two research papers during the quarter which the TA grades and you'll never know what you got points taken off for. Overall, this class was easy and I definitely recommend taking the class online.

Professor Nazmi is honestly just awesome. He has had so many life experiences that he integrates into his lectures and is very engaging throughout lecture. As for the work load, the class is reasonable. There are weekly readings for the class online and in the textbook, but you never need to buy the textbook. The textbook quizzes are online and on Quizlets so they are super easy to get 100%. As for the supplemental readings you will be quizzed on those in class, you get about 15 minutes for 6-8 questions regarding the articles. There is a three part project for the class as well but they are super easy to write and get an easy 100%. Even if you do bad on the quizzes and papers he offered my class 3 extra credit opportunities totaling to 25 extra possible points. He WANTS you to succeed and do well in his class which is rare on this campus.

Dr. Nazmi is nice, and this was his first quarter not only teaching, but making this class. As in he worked with Dr. Winslow from the library to structure the course and make it happen. I don't fault him for many of the mistakes or perceived inadequacies encountered in the course. It's not easy making a course, and I'm glad he tried and made it good. It's not a bad course, though I don't think my writing got much better (as evidenced by this piece) but he tries. I felt like the communication of deadlines and homework was one of the more frustrating factors, but I imagine it will get better as the class evolves. Most of the students with me thought there was too much work for a "2 unit" class, and I'd agree with them somewhat. The work seemed more arduous than excessive. The easiest tasks were an absolute bear to get through sometimes. The best part of the class was when we went over his previous studies to critique the writing/word choice, and I hope he implements more of that. One of the problems I found with the course was the lack of prior resources (related to cal poly's lack of writing/vocabulary related GE courses- I think they should implement more online English courses, but that's just me) to write a good essay. The class is good practice but in the end felt more difficult than what I got out of it. It's a good introduction to writing in the nutrition world, and I can now see how it was designed for sophomores. That being said, I would not recommend writing this course off as simply 2 units of work, as the amount of class time and personal time spent on the essays felt more worthy of a 4 unit level 100 class. Though that's probably subject to change.

This class was fun but almost pointless. His tests were a lot more detailed then they should have been. If you take this class be prepared to study a bunch of random facts. He assigned us weekly readings that were extremely long and would tell us that he would put questions on the exams about the articles we read. Nope. Out of all 3 exams there was one, I repeat one, question about our readings. The class consisted of 2 projects, weekly lab reports with nutrient analysis and a paper per lab, 2 midterms and a final. He is not a fair grader either. Most people who took this class with me ended up getting a C or B- If you can, avoid taking this teacher.

There are some good things about this professor and some horrible things. He was actually my teacher for both lecture and lab. I loved the class itself. The lectures were very interesting and the labs themselves were fun. I thought he was a very good lecturer. He kept the lecture interactive which is nice. The thing about him though is that is kind of condescending. Some people felt like he was questioning their intelligence. He is a little scary and it\'s hard to muster the courage to ask him a question for fear of being called an idiot. Overall, he is a good lecturer and I loved he material. It was a more in depth view of nutrition, culture, and people than previous classes. The main drawback is his personality and how he relates to his students. In reality, he is the only one that teaches this course, so you don\'t really have a choice in the matter. He has restructured the class quite a bit, but basically, study for the midterm(s) and do well on the projects and you will do at least ok. Hope this helps prepare you for the class!

Dr. Nazmi is an average teacher. If you have to take 321 I believe he is the only teacher so you do not have a choice in the matter but I will try and help you prepare. He has presentations and homework and lab which is a majority of your grade. He has a midterm and a final which are pretty low in points, thankfully. He tells you to read a blog everyday and to read Michael Pollan. I would say to definetly read Pollan for the test and talk with a friends a little bit about it because he never talks about ANY of the reading in class. The blogs is up to you. He only had one question on the midterm and it was the first one becasue that is the only one I read and I knew the answer. For the midterm review all the powerpoints he doesn't ask little detail but just know everything on the slides, he doesnt give a study guide either and doesnt talk about it much so you dont really know what its going to be one but its on his lecutres and Pollan. Then for the final I had no idea what to study since he only gave 3 lectures the second half of the quarter but READ POLLAN! That was about 50% of the fianl. On my final is was all about the lists at the end of the book so make sure you know those! Lab was stressful at times but it all works out and lab should help your grade a lot. its easy and suppose to be fun so dont stress out too much about that. My group members did sometime which made it not as fun. The lab reports are easy as long as everything gets done. I ended up with an A- and didnt do well on either test, so theres hope!

Dr. Nazmi is very condescending. It is obvious that his ph.d. makes him feel like a deity. He does not hesitate to single out students in front of the class, especially targeting students that were likely more popular than he was in college.

Professor Nazmi is just extremely sarcastic. His 416 lectures were very dry and boring but I thought that his dry and sarcastic humor helped to liven things up a bit; although it kinda irked some of the students the wrong way sometimes I thought it was quite amusing. He hardly ever smiles but I'll have you know that we go him to a couple times!! Focus on the numerous amounts of readings he assigns for the midterm and final and you should pull out with a passing grade. The grant project was kind of a joke, I didnt really see the purpose in it, and he grades it pretty hard. Over all, he is funny and understanding about most things you go talk to him about, but he doesnt take any crap. Have fun.

This teacher is engaging and extremely entertaining, you will never leave a lecture bored or with out laughing a little. Although he may sometimes move through a topic quickly or get off topic the material he presents is fairy simple to grasp and interesting. He also plans out activities through out the quarter to help the class engage with the material. Although he may come off as a hard ass in the beginning of the quarter, in actuality he is an extremely understanding and caring professor. If you have a real emergency he will help you out in anyway possible!
