Dan is awesome. If you need to take KINE250, take him. He takes all your online quizzes (which are open book/open whatever) and makes that your midterm/final. He doesen't teach anything in class, but its not necesary. You never really have to learn anything, just take the quizzes online and look up the answers and make sure you print out your final results. From there just memorize the answers and go in and take the midterms. Instant A. Oh, you should show up to class though because after each guest lecturer speaks he usually has some sort of 10 point thing where you answer questions based on what the lecturer talked about. Easy 10 points but annoying having to sit through the boring lecturers. Most of the time you get out in 45 minutes to 1 hour though. Do yourself a favor and take Dan!

Dr. Eller knows that you have other classes, and he knows that much of the material in this class is neither hard to understand nor new (for most people). He doesn\'t try to make things any harder. Everything is very straight forward. He said \"it might seem like I\'m spoon feeding you the information, and that\'s because I am.\" You will get an A in the class if you go to class and do the online quizzes, and take advantage of his study guide. The guest lecturers that he has are actually very interesting usually and they share valuable information. I am glad I took this class. I\'ve actually used stuff that I learned, this class is easy and immediately beneficial. The best guest lecturer was the police officer, he was funny, approachable, and had SO much useful information. This class was great. Take it.

Professor Eller is honestly the best teacher I have had at Cal Poly thus far. I was really interested in learning about public relations so I took this class as an elective, he presents the material very clearly and tells you exactly what he expects from you. The classes usually do not go to the full two hours, because he is incredibly understanding that as Poly students we have full plates. His midterms are directly from lectures which he posts online, the book is not necessary to purchase I just did to learn more about the field. You make a group the first few days of class and actually create and implement a public relations campaign which is a great resume booster! He believes in learn by doing but also is flexible with deadlines, you can tell he enjoys what he does. Honestly everyone should take this class, I am only into week 6 of the quarter but I think it is the best class I have participated in so far. Easy A because he wants you to succeed!

Dr. Eller is not just a great teacher, but an overall great person. If he could stay all day to help you understand something, he would. He doesn\'t care about cramming a ton of information in your head, but by giving you useful knowledge through the Learn By Doing philosophy Cal Poly says it upholds, but let\'s face it, it rarely does. I wish all my teachers were like Dr. Eller just because I would feel like I learned something I can use in my future. Such a nice guy. You won\'t be disappointed.

Dr. Eller is very enthusiastic about the Public Relations field. He is very straightforward, and understanding if you happen to be late turning in homework/late to class/etc. He is very accessible via email, and even gives his cell phone number on the syllabus. He is very willing to be a reference for you if you are applying for internships/jobs. Honestly, though, the experience of the class seemed very independent-- how much you learn and how well the class goes for you is very much up to you. To my memory, there was not a lot of \"book learning\" or time spent being entertained by the teacher--the class consists mostly of the experience of working with your peers. The class is not hard, but if you make the effort, you can get real experience making a PR campaign proposal for a real client through the group project. We had some designated project work days, where instead of meeting for normal class, we had time to meet with our group to work on the project. Again, Dr. Eller is very accessible and always willing to help.

Dan Eller is an excellent professor. He brings life experience to the class room, and it really adds to student comprehension of the subject matter. In JOURN 312 you do a PR project for an actual client. It was awesome to have guidance from a professor in addressing the concerns of a client. In addition to the project there is also a multiple choice midterm and a final. I felt that I learned the most from the project and that what I learned will help me when I am working with clients in the future. I took Journ 312 over a year ago, but just recently contacted Dr. Eller to ask for his advice on PR tactics for a current project. He met with me to discuss my project, and legitimately cares about the success of his students.

He's exceptionally good at Public Relations himself. He makes the class fun and applicable to what you want to learn. You will get out of the course what you put into the course. He's always available to help and explains everything thoroughly. It's difficult to work in groups, but Eller's grading mercifully reflects that. So, do your best and hope you get a good team, but know you're not screwed if you get a bad team. I'd advise Dr. Eller as a teacher, and a mentor. TAKE HIM! You will not regret it. Plus, he's close with Sturm, so you know it's good (if you know Sturm).

Eller is a really chill teacher. You have a quiz about once every two weeks, but you get credit for just writing your name. The midterms and final are also really easy - he gives you a study guide outlining everything you need to know. A group project is a HUGE percent of your grade, so if you don't like working with groups, skip this class. Overall, it was super easy and he's a pretty cool guy.

Eller is the man. His lectures are boring and he gives you a quiz after each. However, he tells you word for word whats going to be on the quiz and let's you study. There's three exams (25 multiple choice questions) and a final (all not cumulative) and he cancels class at least three times during the quarter to let you work on your campaigns. Don't have to worry too much about the class, would definitely take him!

I had Dr. Eller for almost all of my public relations classes. He is definitely a good teacher and makes sure students do well. His classes are really what you make out of them though. Sure, you could slide by with a good grade, but you if you put in the effort, you have the opportunity to really learn a lot and build a nice PR portfolio. My advice is to pick a good group to work with, smaller groups can actually be better sometimes. Also, pick a client who you are actually interested in. I personally recommend on campus clients, and there are plenty.

There is no other teacher like Dr. Eller. I will be a super senior this coming fall and have not had any teacher like him. He is all about his students and would do anything for them, especially giving his students the best learning experience and knowledge possible. I am not exaggerating about how much he loves his job and giving all he has to offer to his students. I have learned so much from him and wish I could take another class with him. Any chance you get, take any class you can with him. You will learn so much and actually be excited to attend class. I highly recommend Dr. Eller as a professor and as a person. I went into this class for an easy A or the sorts: basically a grade buffer to raise my GPA. But I came out with a completely new perspective. Public Relations is going to be one of the most fundamental and beneficial courses at Cal Poly you will take. Professor Eller covers marketing, he covers advertising, he covers basic communication skills, he really tells you what the hell is up with public relations; he covers just about every damn thing under the sun except rocket science. He has great guest speakers come to talk to you, his videos are very informative (first one is a little outdated, but hilarious because of that fact), and he is a very intelligent individual. You have four exams, non-cumulative including the final (or last exam); he gives you study guides, first one coincides well with the first exam, be weary of the next three they stray a bit. Plenty of opportunities for extra credit by attendance/participation. There is a final assignment the PR Proposal, do it. It's a very basic and straight-forward assignment, he gives you the option to not do it, but then you get a 0 (some people don't need it because of the extra credit), but do it-- chances are you are going to have to do some kind of proposal in your lifetime and so might as well know what the hell you're doing beforehand. TAKE THIS CLASS.

Dr. Eller is an outstanding professor for JOUR 312, he is very patient, and understanding of student's needs, abilities. He is always welcoming to students having questions in his class, and helps provide a fun and calm learning experience. The workload in the class is not challenging because Dr. Eller helps provide you with the full tools and information needed to succeed, exams are straight forward and are mainly used as a teaching method rather than a evaluation of what you've learned. This class is not just for journalism students, it helps provide a wider view on future careers for businesses, especially if you are a RPTA/EIM major this class will be beneficial for you. This class has helped me work along side my new bosses for expanding our business, rebranding our logo, who we are, and what we stand for as an entertainment company, and how we can make ourselves better known to the public. I highly recommend this class for anyone that would like to learn about Public Relations because in the long run this class helps you not just in school but outside in the real world where you find your career path and choose what you want to do for your career, so let this class help you take that first step.

He doesn't bother with information that isn't important or boring and he has lots of experience in the PR field. This class was truly a stepping-stone for entering the real world. CCPR provides a unique opportunity in that you, the students, are running the firm and working directly with clients all on your own. Dr. Eller is absolutely wonderful and is always happy to help if you need advice or direction, however, this class requires you to be a true pr practitioner. This course shows you how to use the skills you have learned, not only from past pr classes, but other journalism courses as well. Whether your client needs a press release, website, promotional video, or social media, you will be prepared to meet their needs. In being a graduating senior who is currently applying for jobs, this class has proven to be extremely impressive to talk about during interviews. People I have spoken with have been tremendously impressed by the experience gained and knowledge acquired from working at CCPR.

Dr. Eller is the kindest, most helpful and inspiring professor I have ever had. As my professor for all of my public relations classes, and my senior project, he guided me in the right direction, giving me knowledge about the public relations field that will be applicable, make me a better practitioner, and help set me apart from the thousands of students applying for jobs in the PR field. As a senior project advisor, he made my research paper (which ended up being 80 pages) seem effortless. He guided me each week, telling me what chapter to turn in, giving me outlines on writing each chapter, and helped me decide who I should interview and ideas on how to conduct my research. What seemed to be daunting in the beginning became manageable with his help, and I am happy to say that I produced a product i will be happy to showcase to future employers, graduate schools, or simply allow to be an example to other students submitting their senior projects. Dr. Eller, has been my favorite professor over my four years here at Cal Poly. While I was always on the edge about switching out of journalism, the knowledge, and real experience I received in his PR classes made me stay in major because he was truly passionate and so knowledgeable about the trade. I have used so many things Dr. Eller has taught us in interviews with various internships over the years, and it would be safe to say could not have landed them without the experience gained in his classes. His commitment to his students is the highest of any of the professors. Always making himself available essentially 24-7, I have appreciated his constant advice and direction, especially in completing my senior project. Completing my senior project research paper under the guidance of Dr. Eller was definitely the highlight of my studies at Cal Poly. Dr. Eller is easy-going, flexible to meet with and full of knowledge. He walked me through what I initially thought was going to be a fairly daunting project with total clarity. I had Dr.Eller as my senior project adviser and he was excellent. I did all of my project via email and he was very responsive, explained things really well and always gave helpful suggestions/feedback. The best thing about having Dr. Eller as an adviser was that he made an extremely daunting task totally manageable. He broke up the senior project by chapters and gave examples of what it should look like and gave you a reasonable amount of time to work on each chapter. My senior project ended up being close to 80 pages but it never felt like I was working on a huge paper since I worked on a different chapter every week, this really helped keep me on track.
