It’s evident that Jaggia is extremely educated in the area of Econometrics, but this class was dumbed down too much in my opinion. The entire first half of the class is basically a review of STAT 252, and the second half was really nothing incredibly difficult. The pace was really slow, but it’s hard to complain when you are able to understand everything because so little is covered and then be able to ace the tests. Overall, it’s a nice introductory course that could have gone a little faster, but Jaggia did a good job with what he did teach. And don’t buy the book, the only thing you need are his notes.

He teaches the material in such a way that you will know enough to actually use it when you graduate. Very useful class.

I took this class to fulfill my upper division econ requirement in the college of business, little did I know that what I was in for was not an economics class but rather a stats course. I would say that 99% of this course is statistics, and I can only really recommend this course to someone who is, at the very least, EXTREMELY SOLID on their statistics. Contrary to the review above, I found the class to move exceptionally quickly and this, coupled with the fact that Dr. Jaggia has foregone giving preprinted notes to the class (\"I have found that they make people a bit lazy\") as he has apparently done in the past, makes for an experience which I don\'t care to relive. The homework was another matter which I found to be very cumbersome. Dr. Jaggia uses a statistical package called \"EVIEWS\", which is a bit pricey even with the student discount and is almost necessary for the completion of the homework. I say almost because it is possible to do the homework with excel, however after the first midterm the topics that we get into go beyond the statistical capabilities of excel and large amounts of side work would have needed to be done which is done by eviews automatically. The midterms (2) are 4-5 questions long and consist of mainly regression output from which the student is to compute statistical measures or explain how to do so. Also, he does feature some conceptual questions to quiz your knowledge of topics covered in the course. All in all I felt very lost during the majority of lectures, however I admittedly am not the best at statistics, I feel that a class average of 69% on the first midterm makes it clear that I wasn\'t the only one lost. The main reason I wrote this review is to explain what you can expect from this class, and not just totally rely on the 1 to 4 star polyratings scale.

This class was miserable. I had to take it because it is required for the Quantitative concentration. Unfortunately, there are no other choices for teachers for this class. Get ready for no economics at all. Completely statistics. He tried to incorporate maybe 1 economic concept the entire course. Would have been much better if he actually helped us, rather than explaining way too complicated of stuff that we never used. Rough class, but sorry fellow Quants, you\'re stuck with him.

This class is very straight forward, THIS IS A STATISTICS CLASS, VERY LITTLE ECON AND A LOT OF COMPUTER APPLICATION.

Very nice during lecture and office hours. His tests are fair. Lecture can be boring but try to pay attention, he does know what he's talking about. He tries to be helpful during office hours but I felt he didnt understand my questions and was unwilling to give a direct answer. His textbook is awesome-only like 60 pages and contains mostly useful information. Make sure to write down computer commands as he does not seem to think these should be included in the textbook. Very nice professor overall.

When asked how we should prepare for exams, Jaggia replied "do the homework and re-read the textbook". This left students feeling disoriented with what to know and practice when going into exams. He refused to prepare any study guide or highlight anything to focus on. This resulted in overcrowded office hours prior to exams. It was impossible to accomplish anything. His final exam was so challenging that in the middle of it students stopped the exam and openly companied about the rigor and impossibility of some of the exam questions. The final exam was extremely challenging and did not adequately reflect the ability of the students. It did nothing but hurt grades. I was disappointed that Jaggia was referred to me as "the guy to take" for econometrics. His class disoriented me.

Very enthusiastic in class, goes over material at a good pace not too slow or too fast, hw is very reasonable and first midterm was straightforward. he is really helpful in office hours and has a genuine interest for the subject, only suggestion would be that he do more examples on eviews but I'm sure he would if the class asked him to do some.

Jaggia is great. No textbook, just a set of notes that he provides and basically dictates exactly what you need to know. The homework assignments can take a lot of time, but they are worth 50% of your grade which is awesome…makes it almost impossible to get anything below a B in the class. 25% midterm, 25% final round it out. Just go to class, do the homeworks, and make sure you catch and fix any mistakes you might have made on the homework before the tests so that you know what you are doing. Take him if you can.

This class is essentially an extension of his 339 class, lots of stats, you use the same computer application Eviews. If you understand stats and can get around the software its a really easy course.

Jaggia is a really smart guy, but that doesn't translate into being a good professor. He rarely answers e-mails and doesn't post grades on poly learn. The software (Eviews) is tedious and IMO a bit silly considering we have access to stuff like SAS and R. In my class notes, we had different answers in the required notebook than the Eviews output, due to some kind of update issue. No big deal if you don't care about your GPA. But it's not like you have a choice if you're a quant. Enjoy your 4 years of garbage economics and a career at Clorox.
