Professor Lepore is awesome! Honestly, I really didn't like econ just because I think it's so boring and it's just a G.E. but, he really knows how to recognize when a student needs help and he will re explain the lecture to you in office hours if needed. Be careful of the Aplia assignments, there are a ton and they always took me forever so don't wait until the last minute. The midterm and final are 50 questions, multiple choice and he only gives you an hour and a half or so to take it but honestly if you study the material, you should be fine. Overall, Professor Lepore is an awesome guy and don't be afraid to ask him questions!

Lepore tries to teach, but he really doesn't seem to care about his students that much. On top of that, he jumps around from section to section, without clearly describing what he's talking about. Everything I learned was from the online assignments.

He does not care about the students, at all. He puts in 0 effort to the class and it's honestly disrespectful. He's just about never showed up to an online section. It's a waste of time to the students. Oh, and good luck emailing him. He won't email back. His excuse? "well if you don't send me an email from your cal poly.edu account it'll go to my spam folder!" stop. you're a joke. he doesn't reply to any email, no matter what

Don't take this professor. He will not respond to emails, he doesn't teach anything, and doesn't prepare you at all for any of the exams. He showed up to 2 of our 8 online experiments, and just didn't care about the students. I'm ashamed that this guy is getting paid for the subpar job he is doing with his curriculum.

PLEASE DON NOT TAKE THIS CLASS FOR GE!!! He should not be hired as a professor at all. Never update the grade on PolyLearn and never reply emails. He tried his best to answer questions after class but he really can't teach... I learned most of the information through Aplia but still some questions on the exam and final are unrecognizable. Please avoid him...

I was really nervous going into this class, as I knew the subject was NOT going to be exciting for me. Even though the lecture was only once a week, the material was so dry and boring it was painful. Lepore also uses the chalkboards, which in the business silo can be really tough to see. Overall, I felt like I learned more from the book than from Lepore. The tests were tough (My Tip: Memorize everything!), and he never updated Polylearn after the final. We had to do Aplia assignments (which were time consuming yet easy), but he only showed up for 2 out of 8 experiments. Not an incredibly easy G.E., but it is passable.

The class is described as half in class half online. It really is more like 80% online and 20% in class. Weird adjusting to all of the online material. Lepore knows his stuff.

If you've taken any economics course in high school, this class will be a walk in the park. Otherwise, you might want to avoid him. That said, his test questions are pretty predictable, so passing won't be a problem as long as you review your online work.

The weekly online portion of this class he only showed up only 3 times, which was frustrating. He did not seem very approachable if you needed help. The final was extremely irritating as he did not allow calculators and said the math would be very simple, however that was not true. I spent probably a quarter of the final doing arithmetic, which involved long division and decimal points. By some miracle my grade grade went from a B to an A- after the final, even though I didn't think I did exceptionally well. Not a good professor, but the class is manageable.

Not a bad class at all. All info is online and Lepore just reiterates it in class. You have the whole week to do the online work with it being due every Friday night. Tests are relatively easy if you know the general concept and they aren't cumulative.

He was honestly a terrible teacher, and I don't know why most people can't see that. Yes...he gave us all a 90% on our final, but that was because he was too unorganized to print out more copies. This pattern follows his entire teaching style. He was unclear with his grading standards, he didn't show up for office hours, and he simply did not care at all about his students. The class average for the midterm was a D...what does that tell you? Please consider a different professor for this class.

Lepore's class comes with a lot of online work which is completely manageable. As long as you complete Polylearn and Aplia (online course you have to purchase, but worth the buy) then there really is no reason to go to class other than to take the test. Lepore is not very organized and the class grading and overall workload changes every week due to this. This class requires a lot of reading to stay on top of the material. At the end he is fair with his grading/testing, but be prepared to be flexible with how the class works. I've heard he's a great upper division professor...

Don't get me wrong, he's a cool guy. BUT he's extremely lazy and doesn't really care about his students. His tests(especially the final) did not reflect our assignments whatsoever. Speaking of assignments, you will have literally 15 hours of online homework due every week. Wasn't a terribly hard class, just a ton of work that ends up not even being on the test.

Lepore lectures in a clear and easy to understand manner. He talks quickly, trying to get all the information in because the class is only one day a week. In part being a hybrid class is nice because you can do the online work at whenever in convenient, but it does make the class difficult because the online "teaching"/tutorials are very confusing. If it was throughout the week like a normal class with him lecturing it would be much easier. So the bad news is that the online homework is hard and confusing; good news is that he only test on what you learn in class. Your grade is based on one midterm (like week 7), the final, and your online homework, but ONLY IF your online homework grade brings up you're overall grade. If your online homework grade lowers your overall grade, then he won't include it. Only other complaint is that he has messy handwriting, limited office hours, and is bad at responding to emails.

Lepore was a good professor. There was a lot of reading and online assignments, but it was hard to get worse than a B on any of them since you got multiple attempts and could reference the text at any point. It was very clear what to expect on the midterm and final, which were each 50 questions or less. He basically tells you exactly what to study, which is everything he teaches during lecture. Not a super approachable professor...he never emailed me back after I asked to set up an appointment for office hours. Overall he wasn't bad and it's an easy A if you just put the time into the readings and online assignments.

random fact: professor Lepore looks exactly like Mr. Incredible... this class was not too hard, professor Lepore taught the material in a comprehensive way. The class was half online and only met once a week which was nice. The online portion of the homework was awful I hated it it was hard and I didn't feel like it helped me. The first midterm I did really well but the second midterm screwed me over.

Lepore was one of my favorite professors that I have had at Cal Poly so far. He presents his material very clearly and provides a lot of energy so his lectures are always interesting. He is very helpful if you every have any questions and gives you a practice midterm/final which are very similar to the real tests. He grades very fair and if you get an A on the final then you get an A in the class. Anyone should take him if they are given the chance and you will not regret it.

I had to write this since I saw some dummies down rate this guy and had no idea what they were talking about. I went into this class with a bad impression of Lepore because of them, but Lepore turned out to be awesome. Lepore is a relaxed professor. He\'s also a very straightforward individual whether it\'s during lecture or outside of class. Though his teaching skills aren\'t superb, I still give him an A as a college professor since he\'s the type of professor who everyone needs AT LEAST once in their busy college careers (perfect for you engineers or other majors who just need to get this GE out of the way with a decent grade). His policies aren\'t that strict/formal, and the workload isn\'t that much or hard. The online assignments can be a pain at times, but it\'s still flexible enough that you should be able to finish on time according to your own schedule (especially since he switched to APLIA from MyEconLab that I had to take which sucked). Other than that, his lectures pretty much take up the rest of the quarter other than studying for one midterm and a final. His class is simple to follow: he provides the notes on the board and clarifies/elaborates while you follow along and have questions in between. If you need to miss a class, he doesn\'t care as long as it\'s not an exam day (in fact, he wants you to stay in and sleep if you\'re that tired). Just make sure to get the notes from a friend in class for the days you missed. If I took another teacher for the quarter I had him, I would\'ve been overwhelmed. He provides that nice balance for your schedule with not-too-much-but-not-too-little amount of work so you don\'t feel like you\'re wasting your time either. Take Lepore. He\'s legit.

He is a really nice teacher. In class he will make small jokes or use examples with beer and pizza just to kinda wake to class up and keep it fun. Personally I just passionatley hate econ. It is very boring to me so I cant see a way for him to have made it any better. He covers material sorta fast and is writing notes on the board pretty much the whole time but he let us out very early a few times. I didnt work that hard in the begining and got an A on the midterm so I did even less work for the second half of the class which ended up being harder so I got a B in the class after the final. He really bends to grades to help you end up with the highest possible so if you do the homework and reading and study it a fair amount you should do very well. *One thing I noticed though is that he uses different colors because researchers say multiple colors help learning, though there isnt much cordination and meaning to the different colors. It was more just amusing more then anything else.

Lepore is a beast. Your grade is based on the midterm, final, and online work. If the midterm or online work don't help your grade he won't include them. I got a 98 on the midterm and thought I did poorly on the final, but ended up with an A. Focus on learning major concepts, then read the book to learn the little stuff for an A. I look forward to taking more classes with Lepore.

Such a great teacher! Try to take him if you have the choice. He hates the book, so he tries not to make you read any of it. He writes on the board with different colored pens which made it super easy and understand, and used funny examples like "if you could only buy beer and pizza..." etc. Funny guy. He really cares about the students and many of the lectures, he writes out examples and you do it yourself or with groups, so you get hands on experience. He makes up his own tests, which almost follow the notes exactly. One midterm, one final, and Aplia homework (which is a waste of time and pretty difficult. He doesn't include your aplia grade if it hurts your overall grade.) Great teacher and I learned a lot.

Lepore's class was pretty interesting. The first half of material is a lot easier than second half. If you do better on the final he'll change your grade to what you got on the final. The final was pretty hard though. I studied hard and got a B, after pretty easily getting an 88 on the first mid term. Go to class, thats where you'll learn what he wants you to know. Lepore is a really cool guy. He writes all the notes up on the white board during class while he lectures so you don't have to worry about remembering what to write down b/c it's always on the board. He presented the material very clearly and even gave practice midterms/finals. The only bad things were that he was horrible at responding to e-mails and also, he seemed to put a few completely random questions on the exams that we didn't even cover in class...it was weird. But besides those things, he is a good professor. I'd recommend him.

Lepore's a really nice guy and has an impeccable resemblance to Mr. Incredible, but he's not the best teacher. He teaches main concepts in class and has us use this website called Aplia to do homework assignments, but his lectures rarely covered the questions asked on the homework, so I had to teach myself everything. His lectures provide some context about what you're about to learn in the textbook...but it was incredibly stressful for the final because I had to learn EVERYTHING all over again, and his lecture notes weren't that helpful. If you're ready to teach yourself microeconomics, then this class is for you! But out of the other micro teachers, Lepore isn't the worst.

Professor Lepore most certainly knows his material. A lot of the work you will be doing in this class is online through a website called Aplia where the text is as well. If there is something you have questions about he is most certainly willing to help you understand the material. He doesn't email you updates regarding when homework is due, when the tests are, etc. It is up to you to check on certain dates; however, as long as you stay on top of it the class is not too bad. It seems that he also tends to favor student athletes.

professor lepore is by far the worst instructor i've ever had. he moves really quickly in his notes and they dont make any sense because he is dyslexic. his midterms dont correlate with the material and the study questions he provides are completely different from what's on his tests. his textbook is extremely dense and hard to read. however, he teaches out of it so if you show up to class you don't necessarily have to do the readings.

Im an average student majoring in Economics. i took stat252 last quarter and still struggled in this class. He has 4 problem sets, 1 midterm, and a 45% final. Although his curve is huuge his tests still aren't easy. He is a teacher for a specific type of student if you love calc and want to deal with advanced math econ then you'll probably like him. Otherwise he will probably not be the teacher for you. He is not very understanding towards students and doesn't usually seem to care about them. He lectures in a disorganized and very confusing Manet which often left you perplexed at the end of class. He does not communicate well about Econ and if you email him to ask any questions you will be lucky to hear back within a week and not have you're question answered. The pre-classes did not seem to really prepare for class and seemed like time wasting busy work. Did not follow any book so if you didn't get something from lecture you're screwed. Most of your grade is the final but there is also a midterm and 4 homework problem sets. The problem sets are graded on doing them but the midterm and final have some very tricky problems and math calculations. One on the big problems on the final was a big shocker for me as I wasn't sure where it came from. In short you'll either like his teaching and very Kathy style or you won't . Either way good luck!

you see my grade and you are probably thinking i have some sort of vendetta against lepore, but I'm fine admitting that passing his class was definitely possible (i'm not even sure i didn't yet, but its not very likely) and he is a really chill and nice guy. His downfalls though are a lack of review material (don't miss class!) and motivation. He gives the class examples that you do in groups and he rarely ever actually explains them and if you ask he either responds, "it's really easy" (hate hearing that when i don't get something) or goes over it briefly. If you are good at calc1-calc2 material, then i can imagine this actually being a really easy class. Anyways It just didn't seem like he really put his heart into it and it felt like he had more important things to do. He definitely knows his stuff and he could be a really good teacher but instead i feel like he decides to be half-hearted and that is what annoyed me about him.

I thought I'd give an update on Dr. Lepore's ECON 311 class. Prior to this quarter, he hadn't taught 311 for a few years. He seems to have developed a new take on the course in comparison the course dynamic mentioned in earlier evaluations. He did his best to clarify ambiguities during lecture and he was receptive to past requests for more clarification of topics. He is an engaging guy with a breadth of knowledge in economics, and definitely seeks to establish a solid foundation for the upper-division Econ program. Note that this course is essentially learning Calculus-based Economics (hence its intermediate title). Having said that, he was very compromised in other respects. Most notably, he routinely cancelled his office hours to tend to students in his Senior Project Seminar course. This deficiency combined with very few example problems on problem sets and a lack of a textbook made familiarity with the material a serious issue. Even the Orfalea-hired tutor had trouble making sense of the material on our problem sets. For example, there was a consumer choice scenario on the midterm that was never lectured on explicitly, and a majority of the class failed. Still, he has a lenient grading policy on pre-class/post-class assignments [20% of overall grade] (basically credit for completion) and he has a policy where if you get a higher score on the final, it will replace the midterm score. For most people in my section, this effectively meant that the final counted for 80% of our grade [midterm 35% of overall grade, final 45%]. Also in the students favor, he grades on a 100-point scale where 0-20=F, 20-40=D, 40-60=C, 60-80=B, & 80-100=A, which makes failing difficult. Overall, I think this class is dry and difficult no matter who the instructor is, and Lepore is a decent choice, albeit not as preferable as I've heard Hamilton or Flores are.

Econ 311 is a tough class and Dr. Lepore is not one to hold your hand. He warns you of this at the beginning of the quarter and makes it clear that you will have to work in order to be successful. I worked my ass off for this class, this means sometimes spending 10+ hours on 1 assignment and then spending several hours after watching videos, lectures on the internet, and doing extra research. If you need to take this class, Dr. Lepore is a solid choice just be prepared to work hard. I got a B in the class and felt that his grading system and midterm/final was fair. If you work hard you will gain a solid understanding of the material.

However, I still believe that Lepore does a terrible job of teaching it. Every day I would get confused and frustrated. He writes so sloppy on board you can barely tell what he means and he jumps through problems without even taking the time to make sense of it at all. He'll do a derive an equation, solve for x1, input into another function, then solve for x^*1 all in his head without showing you what he's doing. This is a difficult class, but getting an A is not impossible. It will require you to really think, something a lot of classes in university surprisingly don't seem to require. I am thoroughly confused on how this professor has such a high rating. Probably because only intro econ students have given him scores. Does not present materials clearly at all. Expects you to be a math whiz, or have taken once of his other classes. Promises to post assignments or practice problems online, then actually posts them a week later, a day before the test. All of his practice materials are horrible, misspellings everywhere, wrong answers all over the place. I think I found 15 mistakes on his practice midterm, and he didn't even give us the answers to the practice final. Does not present the material clearly at all. Never does examples and actually applies what he is "trying" to teach the students. Thought this sounded like a cool class, and I am sure it could be, but I am very disappointed with my experience and would not take it if given the option.

He is a really cool guy... But I cant stand being his student. In class, you will be lucky if you get one lecture that actually directly relates to the type of problem you get on hw and in the exams. He teaces the general concepts and then expects the class to adapt and apply these to problems we have never seen before. This can be standard with a lot of teachers on some hard questions on a test, but with this guy, it applies to every hw problem. And then the tests are based off the hws... So, it sounds really easy, because you can just study the hw and practice midterms/finals to prepare for the tests but its not that simple. He doesnt give you the necessary tools to do this. The day that me and my friends started learning was a day or two before the test when he finally posted the answer keys after we emailed him for a week to post them up asap...then, the final came a long and he doesnt even post an answer key for the practice final. This makes it difficult when we cant even check answers on the one useful study tool he provides us with... Hws arent graded and theres one midterm and one final. Overall, he just isnt a great professor despite how bright he is and how nice he is...

Lepore expected his students to think and apply the general concepts we learned into a more advanced problem. The homework may seem hard at first, but after spending hours struggling and attempting the homework, the answers and concepts became clear when I checked my answers after he posted it up. He made mistakes on his practice exams/answers and took forever to post things up, but those are irrelevant reasons when it comes to grading a professor. When I attended his office hours, he really tried to make sure his students understand the concepts of the model before he even discussed the problem. I enjoyed econ more after taking his class. He's probably one of the main reasons why I might consider going to grad school in econ.

This class was interesting, but involved lots of calculus that you are expected to be fluent in right from the start. I felt like regular calculus should have been a prerequisite for this course because it involved so much math that business calculus doesn't really give you as good of a foundation in. He was very helpful and friendly in class and in office hours, but his tests were some of the most discouraging I have experienced. I studied extremely hard for both the midterm and the final, and I left both feeling like I had failed them. He does curve a lot, though, which helps. The problem sets weren't that bad - they pad your grade up a little because you basically get credit if you turn them in and show effort. This is an interesting course, but be prepared to put in the work, study very hard for the tests, and still feel like you didn't do well.

Lepore has a pretty baller personality that keeps you awake in class and genuinely interests you. However, there is such a huge disconnect between his lectures, his textbook readings/assignments, and his tests. None of them are related to one another! I'd read assigned readings before class, he lectures on a completely different lecture, and then gives us test questions that are related to neither of the latter two. If you have strong quantitative skills you could probably pass his test without even taking the course because of how big he curves tests. Great guy, terrible teacher.

Lepore is a great professor. His passion and knowledge on the subject is motivating. When he walks into class, be ready to critically think and stretch yourself to solve/explain problems. The class is difficult and if math doesn't come easy, the class will be very challenging. However the math builds upon itself the whole quarter so if you get it, you are good for the whole quarter. Honestly this class was my favorite class i've taken at Cal Poly. Lepore treats the class like a "graduate class", meaning he does not baby his students or give out free points aside from %10 of problem sets which you receive credit for just writing your name on a piece paper. Learning the material is up to the student. Lepore gives you the tools, but you have to put in the work to succeed.

This is not an easy class, but it's manageable and very fun. We split up into "firms" all the time and competed in different product markets. His notation can be weird sometimes and you need to remember those best response functions we learned in 312, but otherwise it's not to bad. The class has about five problem sets, a midterm, and a final. However the problem sets are based on completion (he just wants you to practice), and the final replaces the midterm if you do better on it (but it is cumulative...). The way he grades the tests is great because the test may be out of 200 points, but he'll only grade it out of 150 or something. BUT THAT DOES NOT MEAN THAT THEY'RE EASY! Redo the problem sets and check your answers (he posts the answers to them and the midterm) and do any practice tests he posts (with answers, of course). As long as you show up to class and take good notes, there's no reason why you can't get a B. As a bonus, Lepore a super interesting and inspiring person who you'll want to sit and talk with for hours. 9/10 would recommend this class. (P.S. Labor econ is a terrible class and you should take this one over it in a heartbeat)

So set theory and proofs. After the midterm, we just played games to demonstrate different situations. The math was pretty crazy, but the final didn\'t include crazy math. Probably one of the more math-demanding 400 level Econ classes, but not bad. Overall, take Lepore, he is a cool guy.

Lepore is a professor with excellent real world experience, from his professional consulting & research to his connections with living legendary economists. His white-board notes are not the greatest in terms of structure, but he can work the math and engage the classroom with ease. Participation in class makes sure he knows who you are and often results in super interesting tangents that still relate to the material. Whatever you thought you knew about micro econ, you don't know about micro econ. Know your math or gtfo, the man doesn't teach basic calculus, and shouldn't be expected to in graduate level classes.
