Christine should not be a professor. Her voice is more quiet then a mouses fart and shes extremely monotone. Every week she has assigned readings which I no joke used, to make me fall asleep if i was out of Tylenol PM. At the beginning of the semester she assigns everyone into groups so she can then make each group somehow decipher the readings and present them to the rest of the class. Her other technique to pass lecturing onto anyone but herself was to bring in at least one guest lecturer a week. This semester she has only lectured TWICE the whole time. Unfortunately this is a required course for L.A.'s and she is the only one teaching it. Christine Go find a new job cuz teachings not your thing!

An interesting class that deals with thinking about the many forces that collectively shape landscapes. Sometimes boring as the class consists of mainly power point presentations. However, the few guest lectures were interesting. One midterm and a final are multiple choice and pretty easy since it is material directly from the lectures. Final project is worth a significant portion of the grade, but isn't too hard as long as the visual future landscape is accompanied by valid resources that are cited. Overall a somewhat dull class, but gives you something to think about.

Christy has favorites. If you're one of her favorites, you're golden. If not, try to be one of her favorites. You'll do good in the class. Other than the fact, this class was heavily based on 2 essays (60%), 1 project (30%) and discussion (10%). The class itself is pretty straight forward and easy, but you can't really find out what your grade is because it's all dependent on Christy's opinion. If you write about something she knows exceptionally well, you'll probably fail because "Christy's always right". Honestly, this class really sucked.

This class is about how many different things influence the landscape. When this class first starts, the material can seem pretty boring. Christie is a very quiet professor so her voice makes the material seem even more boring. However, as time goes on (for me it was after the first essay)..things start getting interesting. There are no tests in this class and that is why I actually liked this class. You don't go into class, remember a bunch of information then spit it out in the form of a multiple choice test. Instead, she makes you write essays to portray your thinking and ideas and what you have learned. You will start making new connections, seeing things in another way and this only occurs because you are pretty much forced to. Christie doesn't hold your hand, and lets you know what she expects or what information to know. The material she presents gets you thinking and putting new things together. Class is based on discussion, 2 essays, and a final project. The final project is your chance to show Christie what you have learned. It's a great intro course to the LA profession because it sparks that interest that LA students need. However, I believe this class also helps students decide whether they want to major in LA or not. Overall a good class if you pay attention, do the readings (which will eventually come back and haunt you if you dont read them before the final project), and just THINK, MAKE CONNECTIONS, AND FIND WHAT YOU LIKE OR HATE ABOUT LA. P.S Christie comes off as a bitch sometimes, but she's really a nice sweet lady who is willing to help her students out.

130 is a lecture class, it's dull because the professors are forced to speak. I was lucky enough to have Christy for one of my first studios. She is absolutely one of the best professors in this department and it's because she understands how people work. She's incredibly easy to talk to because she knows a lot about everything and is willing to share. She cares a lot about the history of art and place which is very rare in this field.

I had a double studio with Christine in LA 202 and LA 170. She is super kind and patient; I learn a lot from her. Most importantly, I had a good time and get good grades. Strongly recommended for everyone who is willing to work hard.

She expects a lot, but she will help you get there. She'll make you work all the time in studio and she expects to see results. But at the end, you'll have one of your best projects.

This was a GE C3 for me. Though the material was not terribly interesting to me, but she was my best professor for my first quarter. You want to make sure you sit in the front in any of her classes, though. She has a very quiet voice. She has enthusiasm for the subject which is really refreshing. She gives out 1 participation point periodically for showing up to class. When the class bombed the midterm (class average was about a 75%), she gave an extra credit quiz to boost the grades. It's nice that she genuinely wants everyone to do well in her class.

Prof. O'Hara seemed like a sweet lady who loved Landscape to me, even though I didn't get to know her well. But as a Prof, she is more than a little scattered and she speaks very softly so sit up front if you want to pay attention. I personally found the act of going to class pointless, becuase she puts her powerpoints online and her lectures consist of reading the powerpoints. She also creates notes for you and puts them online, which are basically the powerpoints without the pictures. Her study guides include every single thing we learned and do not help narrow down your studying at all. I didn't go to a lot of classes, and I would have gone to less if she didn't do attendance cards randomly. But, getting an A was easy. The class is out of 100 points and she gave an 8 point extra credit quiz (multiple choice) that I got 7 of without studying (and without going to a few classes) and she gave 5 extra credit questions on the final. I got an 81% on the first midterm and STILL got a solid A.

As one of the introductory courses being a first-year at Cal Poly, O'Hara has projected one of the most abysmal styles of teaching I've encountered thus far. Her lectures are extremely long and dull with her voice being barely audible. Even with her microphone, it's hard to pick up on some of the details being taught by her. The lecture slides that she created for the course are poorly put together. The class is extremely boring; I urge anyone trying to fill in GE's to pick another course.

This class should be required for the major. Christy is an awesome professor!!! She may seem a bit stand-offish at first, but if you stop being a whiny baby and talk to her, she is fantastic and really knows what she is doing. She is one of the only teachers in the department who still works in the field and doesn't just teach. She is the definition of a life-long learner, she keeps up with everything happening in the industry and is even back in school right now getting her doctorate. She LOVES what she does and you can learn a whole lot from her if you just ask questions. She is so dedicated to her students and her work. (She has three kids from middle school to college so she understands students). This class was unbelievably helpful and pertinent to my education. It forces you to look into detail like you will never do in another studio. The field trips are AWESOME! Go on all of them if you can. A lot of people skipped out, and let me tell you they really missed out because she takes you to the best places around. The designs are for REAL projects, not the hypothetical BS in a lot of other studios. I wish I could have taken Christy for more classes.

The subject was interesting, but the professor did a poor job of helping with our designs and conveying what she was specifically looking for. She offered some pretty good examples, which was the most help when it came to our projects. Overall, the class would have been better if the professor would have helped us more, instead of figuring it out ourselves. I did not learn much from the professor, and when I asked for help, she didn't offer any.

Christy is amazing! Anyone who has interned with an architecture or landscape architecture firm can appreciate how great of a teacher she is. She doesn't waste time teaching you fluff and tells you exactly what you need to know in order to practice landscape architecture. Her lectures are super informative and valuable.. She also pushes you to be innovative and progressive with your designs. An amazing and accomplished woman! Take her!
