Sadie is absolutely my favorite teacher. English was my worst subject in high school because I was an international student. In Sadie's class, however, I was completely transformed. She wholeheartedly helped me on every aspect of my writing and had very good understanding of the points that I want to make. Although, when I was taking her, she went through a tough time with her health, she still strives to make it to classes, keeping the class on track and of course entertaining. I always loved her sarcasm. Taker while you still have a chance. It will very likely be one of those classes that you feel comfortable going to. Oh and like others have said, 4 essays if you're in 134, 3 for me cause i'm in 133 (ESL class), some in class exercises and small writing assignments but only the essays count towards your grades.

Sadie is one of the best English teachers I have ever had. I don't really like English, but I was always excited to attend this class. Sadie is funny and very helpful. In this class we had some assignments, and 3 essays. She is very flexible with essay topics. In office hour she is willing to sit down and talk to you about your essay. She gives helpful suggestions to better your essay. She also allowed us to revise every essay for a better grade. Take her she is the best English teacher. I would definitely take another class with Sadie!

Sadie is an awesome lecturer. She got married and used to be Sadie Martin so if you want more reviews look at those. There are four essays one being the final. A few short responses that are really easy. I was terrible at english all through high school and I did really well in this class. Sadie allows you to revise all of your essays until you get the the grade you want and your grade can only go up. Also Sadie is a great teacher to have if you get stuck with or want a 7:10am class! Take Sadie Johann!

Sadie is definitely a cool teacher. For one thing, she lets you call her Sadie. Also, her favorite movie is The Big Lebowski... enough said. Anyway, she tries to make the class fun, but it\'s ENGL 134, so don\'t expect too much. Also, she likes to take as many furloughs as she can.

Absolutely Awesome. The class is very simple to follow. Write whatever you want that pertains to the subject and just explode all your ideas onto the paper. She is great at just making you feel like writing. I know I HATE writing, but since I got to choose what to write about, I loved it! She is a must have, don\'t graduate without her. :)

Best teacher ever! She is hilarious and also very nice and understanding. She is very approachable and truly wants her students to all do well. Another plus is that she tends to cancel class every once in a while. She is truly amazing.

Sadie Johann is an amazing and very understanding teacher. She always comes to class happy and had great stories to share with the class. Her class made me very confident in writing most likely due to the fact she advises her students to choose topics they are interested in. When it comes to grading she always grades in pencil (never red pen) because she believes that red writing looks too harsh. All of her feedback on essays are always very detailed and thats where I found I learned the most in writing. She's a really great teacher and I definitely recommend everyone to try to take her course!

Awesome English teacher! I hated English, but this teacher actually made the class fun. Very funny and down to earth. Very approachable and charismatic. Take her if you can!!!

Sadie is really nice and funny. Even with this class being quite boring and you do nothing during the class time she is entertaining to listen to even at 9 in the morning. She grades a little hard but not too harshly. We had three actual papers, a group presentation, and a reflection letter at the end of the quarter. I would recommend her for this class because you are required to take this class and might as well have an entertaining professor.

LOVE LOVE SADIE!! If you can take her do it!! She is extremely funny and makes class interesting with all her random and quirky comments. The course load isn't hard but the class moves fairly fast paced. If you have a question she is open to help and gives a lot of helpful feedback. The comments on her essays aren't always helpful but if you go to her office hours she will explain it better and helps you understand why she gave the grade she did. Overall, she is an amazing professor and truly loves her job!! (ps. she brought us candy on halloween and dressed up, she's the greatest)

She's is an amazing teacher! She will guide you and assist you to fulfill your needs. One of the best English teachers. She allows you to correct one of your essays. She's a bit of a harsh grader but she gives you time and opportunities to do well in her class. Initially, I was afraid to take this course, but she'll help you, especially if you're a freshman. She understands where you're coming from. I recommend her! Go to her office hours, she helps a lot.

Take her!!!! I actually look forward to going to class because she\'s hilarious and makes it a ton of fun! There really isn\'t too much work, mostly just essays, but you get plenty of time to work on them and she\'s very helpful with telling you what you need to improve.

TAKE HER! She makes a very boring class very entertaining. Class is basically really short and quick assigned readings with a few questions to turn in for participation (that\'s the only reason I went to class, other than that she is absolutely hilarious). And you almost always get out at LEAST an hour early. Your grade consists of basically 3 essays that are as open ended as you can possibly get. She appreciates witty and unique topics so try to stay away from boring ones that she\'s probably read a million times. If you need help with an essay get a draft done because she\'ll go over the whole thing and give you pointers. I would take her again if she taught another writing class besides 134 and 145!

Sadie was an awesome professor, and I definitely recommend her to anyone taking eng 145. I had some trouble with my essays throughout the quarter and let her know that I was struggling, and she was extremely helpful and understanding. I always felt that she was very approachable and she gave great advice whenever I came to her with questions. Also, I got my first A ever at poly in this class. Great teacher, take her if you can.

SADIE IS SO AWESOME. She is such a kind hearted, smart, hilarious woman. I wish there were more professors like her at Poly. She is very understanding and wants the best for her students. I HIGHLY recommend her. She cancelled class every once in a while which is nice. But at the same time, I loved going to her class everyday and I was bummed when i couldn't see her! She is a fair grader if you are moderately good at writing papers. Quizzes are easy. She's just amazing, wish I could have her again!

Sadie is awesome!! I definitely recommend taking her for ENGL 148. She truly helps students to become better writers and actually cares for your success if you care as well. If you put in the effort, it is an easy A. Writing isn't my thing and I take a long time to write papers, but she definitely made it more enjoyable.... weird to say but true. Get your papers started early on so you can ask her for help along the way!! Def helps

I honestly just wanted to get this GE out of the way and I heard 148 didn't have to write as many essays as 145. However, I happened to find myself in one of the best classrooms on campus. Sadie is absolutely wonderful. She helped me whenever I needed it during office hours and she relates to her students on their level. She's very down to earth and always made class enjoyable that you really don't mind sitting there for an hour cause you know she's going to crack some joke or tell you some hilarious story. If you ever want an easy GE with minimal work that's still enjoyable? TAKE SADIE! I had so much going on the quarter I took her class and I still got an A with minimal effort.

If you actually want to learn about technical writing, then I wouldn\'t recommend her because she really didn\'t teach much at all. She cancels class all the time, so if you want a free hour in your schedule I highly recommend her. Otherwise, she grades fairly but allows you to do revisions on any essays (when I took the class, there was only one major essay). When there actually is class, she makes it fairly entertaining, but like I said, you really won\'t learn much, and you will probably be let out after 30 minutes. Overall, if you want an easy time you should take her, but you probably won\'t learn very much. All you need to get a good grade is to socialize with her. She wears long skirts. I am drunk. Hot ankles?

She was a great teacher, always engaging and fun. I learned a lot about tech writing too, which was great! She plays favorites a lot though, so go to her office hours! Also, it's pretty much impossible to get an A in the class, but she gives out A-'s like it's nobody's business

Sadie is the BEST! She makes sure everyone knows what they're doing and doesn't assign things that are too difficult. However, be ready for a couple cancelled classes and getting out a half an hour early. The class is definitely doable.

Sadie is amazing. She's funny and only teaches you important things that you actually need to know. Her class isn't hard at all and if you put in just a little bit of effort you can easily make it through. She doesn't believe in giving a final or tests because she "tests" you through the various (and rather interesting) projects. tldr: take her. you won't regret it.

Johann was pretty funny and she was really kind. Though she is a bit of a hard grader, she was pretty specific about her requirements. The material of the course is really basic and mostly common courtesy. Where she gets you is on the formatting, which is the most important part of the course. The beginning is a few readings and then a group instruction manual. That takes up to about week seven. Then in the last three weeks, you have a six plus page recommendation report and resume due for the portfolio (along with some memos and cover letters), which is her final. So no final test, but a portfolio, which isn't that bad. As long as you don't procrastinate, and you make sure everything looks nice and is well organized and there is uniform formatting throughout the document, you should do pretty well!

Great Human being, not my favorite teacher. pros: great sense of humor, really laid back, interacts with the students well, really helpful and open. cons: just kinda reads info off her ipad. (cant blame her, tech writing is very dry and has a lot of rules) Grading: tricky. very relaxed and cool in class; everything is like "oh yeah don't worry about it" but then you get an assignment back with red all over it.. so I did have to worry about it...it FELT like she just only gave C's on assignments. No tests ever. two or three 5 question quizzes that are easy as heck. The big grade is a group project and she does grade that easier. She will not fail you if you try your best. just maybe not an easy A. but again, great lady

Johann was my favorite teacher at Cal Poly so far. Her lectures super entertaining and she always keeps it interesting and laid back. Her grading for assignments is difficult, but there are only about 10 throughout the quarter. I heavily suggest going to office hours for each one after, extremely helpful. Take her

She is very nice and quite humorous. Her voice is piercing as she has trouble with volume control. I would sit in the back or a corner to stay far from her voice. The class is kind of dumb and it seems very apparent to me that she tries her best to fill up the required time with useless information. She is a great person.

If you have to take Tech Writing for Engineers, I would recommend Johann in an instant. Incredibly funny, a decent grader, fantastic at communication, but most importantly she really cares about each student. This class is easy, but don't slack. I found the class significantly more useful than I first imagined. Please take her!

This professor/class pairing is one youre gonna wanna turn into a pass/fail instead of getting a grade. The entire class made me feel like I was back in high school again with the simplistic assignments (we literally worked with play-doh at one point) but when it comes to grading she rips whatever you turn in apart and it's a shitty way to bring down your GPA in my opinion. Otherwise she's a really nice teacher and cancels class a lot. She threw a party for us at the end of the quarter and cares about the students. Just doesn't get that some of us are trying to spend most of our time on our engineering classes and not this.

She reads these. There isn't too much to the class, maybe 2 presentations and 4 assignments. No exams or quizzes. Thus, the assignments are actually weighted pretty heavily. The only way to do well on the assignments is to probably go to her office hours or the writing rhetoric center or anyone studying and familiar with English/formatting. She expects stellar work to do well and it's worth it, because stellar work (don't be extra) in this class requires much less effort than in others. That being said, phrasing and formatting are the two big contributing factors to how anyone does well in ENGL 149. You will pass, but go for the A.

Professor Johann made this course very fun to go to. She has a great personality that makes you like being in class, and doesn't assign so many projects that I felt overloaded. I think there were like 7-8 project/assignments due during the quarter, and most of them were very manageable time and effort wise.

Professor Johann has a great sense of humor that keeps the class entertaining. Unfortunately, that is the only good thing about her. She fails to communicate clearly what she wants on assignments, which is concerning given that this is a class about clear and concise communication. She also tends to contradict herself. Several times I went into office hours for help, and then almost every time she would mark me down for implementing her suggestions on my final draft. I don't understand why a teacher would mark you down for doing what they said they wanted you to do. Let's be honest, you're taking this class because you have to, not because you want to. No one I have ever talked to has actually learned anything from tech writing, so you might as well take someone that grades on the easier side.

Professor Johann's class is an easy B, but an impossible A. During class you get the impression that she is a very relaxed teacher with a forgiving grading policy. DON'T FALL FOR IT. I went to her in office hours before turning in every assignment to get feedback. After getting assignments back, I noticed that she repeatedly marked me off for things she said were correct in office hours! This seemed to be the case for everyone in the class, and makes me think she just refuses to give anyone above a 90% on an assignment. In addition, she waited until week 9 to grade our assignments from through-out the quarter, so you get feedback on your work too late to make a difference. Take Johann if you want to put in minimal effort and get a B. Stay clear if you really want that A or A-.
