Kuhn is a new teacher so she's still figuring stuff out... buttt SHE'S AWFUL! She NEVER hands stuff back on time. In fact, it's the 7th week of classes and I have NO IDEA how I'm doing in the class. Also, bring your labtop to class because there's NO WAY you're ever going to get all the notes down if you don't. She's also pretty unorganized. She always forgets her notes. Overall, the class is pretty interesting, but if you can help but not take Kuhn, DON'T!

This is my second time taking this professor and she failed my expectations. I had her for her first quarter here and I has hoped she learned from her mistakes but alas, I was wrong. Hard core grader, especially for a 200 level class and her mulitple choice is a joke. I believe I received the highest grade on the midterm which was a pitiful 38/50. She later told us that she didn't know why we score so low, the professor she got the multiple choice questions from said his class did fine. Well duh fucking sherlock. Are we in HIS class? NO! Make your own damn questions!! Anyway. Takes forever to get grades back. Her lectures are confusing and she is very distracting. She appears to be on crack, constantly walking around, making hand movements or just shifting her weight. If you're bored you should tally up the number of times she says 'etc.' during her lectures. It's pretty hilarious. She attempts to engage the class by having small groups lead group discussion but this is essentially having those with impaired eye sight leading the blind. We go there to learn, not debate with each other. When our class discussions get way off topic and so confusing we lost our base thread topic she can't bring the topic back to mind. I regret taking her but as I had no option I tried to make the best of it. Oh, and there will be things on the midterm and final that you don't ever remember talking about because she loses track of time, usually because of crazy nonsensical tangents, and tries to go over the last 10 slides in 5 minutes which, lets face it, doesn't go over well. She also becomes confused with what she told her other section, thinking she had shared the same information with our class. Overall. Avoid if you can. Unrealistic expectations. Unorganized. Crazy disucssions. A waste of time.

This is also my second time taking this professor and while I agree that I had hoped she would of calmed down with the readings and requirements more than before I don't think she was so terrible as the other person thought. She is hard, there is a lot of work and a lot of reading/discussions. This is just her style of teaching. It's not what we're used to and might seem like a chaotic waste of time (sometimes I felt it was) but it does get you thinking about new things and gives some students that normally never talk the chance to add to the convo. She does offer extra credit if you want to take the time to do it. Unfortunately I didn't have extra time this quarter and her test were a wee bit ridiculous so my grade probably won't be as high as it could have been. If you're looking for an easy grade don't take this class. But it's not completely worthless.

Dr. Kuhn is a sweet professor, but do not take this class if you are looking for an easy A. This class requires the most work I have ever had to complete for a general ed class. Her tests are extremely long and mostly short answer/essay, making them very difficult to finish. She places a lot of emphasis on participation so it is important to attend class. Though the class is a lot of work, I did find the information interesting. She also makes you do a lot of projects outside of class, many of which you have to spend your own money on.

She is absolutely fantastic. She has a quiet voice so at first you may underestimate her, but she is brilliant. She was a fair grader, explained religions in the most non-biased ways, and kept the subject matter interesting enough to make you want to show up to class. Plus we watched a bunch of really interesting films, meaning half the time we just watched movies in class.

Don\'t be fooled by her happy-go-lucky attitude, she a closet bitch through and through. She runs her class like a kindergarden, constantly talking down to her students. If you disagree with her views on any topic for moral, political, or personal reasons she\'ll condescendingly state that you \"fail to understand\" the material. Her exams are ridiculous, not just for the length but because on multiple choice questions she has several answers which could be correct and often says that the one that is \"less correct\" is actually right. Finally, I don\'t know where she got her doctorate (I\'m thinking University of Phoenix Online) but she doesn\'t see to know proper grammar. She often \"corrected\" my paper by changing my correct grammar to something incorrect and them taking off points for it.

I really loved this class. Dr. Kuhn structures her class in a way that you get a good balance of theory and application of the material (in an academic setting and in the real world). I really felt like this class was a ten-week crash course on how to live our lives recognizing intersecting issues of oppression across a variety of mediums, in a variety of daily settings. Dr. Kuhn is incredibly accessible to her students, whether by email or in office hours. Trust me, I have gone to her office hours to ask the most random questions and she happily welcomes me through the door... along with replying to very scattered, lengthy emails I send about ideas for essays. I felt like with the material she covered, she was also very fair and unbiased in her presentation of the material. Do the readings! They are fascinating and if you don\'t do them, you just won\'t enjoy class as much because you\'ll be lost. Also, her exams are not that bad at all. I am not a multiple choice person at all, and I did really well on the exams. Tip for essays: follow the rubric she gives you, and you will be fine. I loved this class and I\'m sorry the quarter is over. Dr. Kuhn is a great professor (this is my second class with her) and she genuinely goes out of her way to be the best educator she can be. Incredibly knowledgeable professor, incredibly kind person, and someone who loves to teach. What more could you ask for?

Kuhn\'s awesome, BEST professor I\'ve had in my 3 yrs here. I really didn\'t want to take a womens studies class but she actually made it really interesting (and I\'m a guy!). She\'s also really open. she\'s the first professor who did NOT bash Christians when the topic came up. Ok, so her class isn\'t easy but if you do all the reading you\'ll get good grades. she\'s really into making sure you did the reading and you are writing well. I solved that by going to the writing lab. Take her, it\'s an awesome class.

Im rating her so low because its WOMENS STUDIES for christ sake. im an Econ Finance major and this is the hardest class ive taken and not because the material was difficult to understand but because her tests were difficult and the 2 papers you are required to write were graded harshly mostly because the instructions are not clear for what she EXACTLY is looking for in the paper.

This class was my favorite of all the classes I've taken at Poly so far and Dr. Kuhn is a wonderful professor. Yes, her standards are EXTREMELY high, but she gives you every single resource you need in order to meet her standards--you just have to put in the work. The work in this class involves: keeping up with the readings (which I actually didn't do most of the quarter, but wished I had when tests rolled around); putting time and effort into writing thoughtful, concise papers; participating in class discussions; and SHOWING UP TO CLASS (What a concept, right?). She requires all these things because she wants you to succeed and learn, and she's very approachable and available to her students when they need help. This class worked me harder than any class I've taken in my college career, but it was the most satisfying "A" I have ever received and I learned so much that I was inspired to declare the WGS minor.

Starting this off by saying that her expectations are way too high. you have to write 2 papers, both of which she grades harshly... especially when her directions are so unclear and vague. her midterm was the same.. it was hard because you couldn't figure out what she was asking. overall, this class was a major let down... thought sexuality studies was gonna be fun but turned out to be the most boring class I've taken at poly

Dr. Kuhn is a new teacher and is an amazing one. She really tries to convey the material in a way that we will understand. She lets us get into discussions (not arguments) about some pretty touchy stuff, but never lets on her personal beliefs, which i respect in a religious teacher. Between the course material and her, this class was the best class I've ever taken. She isn't really easy, but its not impossible by any means. Her papers require a lot but she knows that and tries to make it a little work as possible while still getting something out of the class. Take her! Take this class! You wont regret it (and I am definitely no feminist).

I took Kuhn her very first quarter (Fall 2007) teahing at Poly and she's an AMAZING teacher! I'm not going to lie there was a ton of work, (this class alone was more work than my other 3 courses combined!) but you really get a lot out of this course if you do the readings and just listen. She realized she assigned way to much work and reading but it was her first quarter so she probably adjusted the workload for future quarters. Kuhn is very knowable and is able to convey that knowledge to students very well. She's great at stimulating discussions and getting her students to open up their minds. She's more into discussions and leting the students discuss and form their own opinions. A lot of the class was disscussions as a class and in groups and then sharing what we disscussed. There was rarely a "typical lecture" in this course. Don't be fooled by her playful demeanor, she is a tough grader. I got A's on almost everything and still got a B+ in the class. I'm not sure if the readings are still the same but we had about 100 pages per class and you have to post intelligent responses to the readings on disscussion boards at least 3 times a week. There's two 500 word essays and one big research paper. There's also 3 pop culture analysis that you have to do. We had a choice between a take home final which was two more essays or an in class exam. If I remember correctly I don't think we had an midterm. The readings are what take up the most time because they're dense and long. Just wait until you get to reading Butler...you won't understand a thing she's talking about. But I would definetly recommend anyone looking for a challenge and wants to know more about religion and gender. All the readings really expand your way of thinking and get you to think about certain topics in a different light/perspective. You will be smarter and more well rounded after taking this course! You will definetly get a lot out of this class!!

Dr. Kuhn is the worst teacher EVER! Do not take her. The subject seem really interesting and it was but theres a TON of work to be done, it just never ends with all the reading, writing, and postings on black board. She in not an easy grader, and you really dont know what she really wants from you! I have never evaluated a teacher before, but I feel the need to help others avoid 10 weeks of Hell with her, because honestly it seem like Hell to me! I hated her class, and hated going to lecture. By all means do not take Dr. Kuhn!

she is awful, doesn't prepare a lecture, so you spend two hours listening to your classmates opinions...LAME. She tries hard to be everyone's buddy, but it comes of looking immature and self conscious... taking this class has forced me to drop my rels studies minor...i just dont want it bad enough to sit through any of her classes....makes two hours seem like enternity, going round and round about gender neutrality..omg kill me now! I can honestly say I have learned nothing in this class that I couldn't have googled and found more meaningful information.

Wow. It never ceases to amaze me how some college students fail to take advantage of the education we are receiving. Yes, Dr. Kuhn is incredibly difficult. Her reading amount is insane and her grading is tough, so don’t come in expecting an easy A. She (I know this is a novel and terrible idea to some college students) wants you to LEARN! She wants you to walk out of that classroom at the end of the quarter knowing as much as possible about the subject she is teaching. She offers alternative assignments, takes a class vote on the format of the final, and takes CONSTRUCTIVE criticism in order to better the classroom environment. She runs a discussion style class, so if you didn’t do the reading you are, and should feel, worthless. She expects students to engage in the material and really try to understand it (heaven forbid!) If you go to her office hours and express your concerns, she is open to hearing them and tries really hard to help you out in anyway she can. Expect your first paper to be rough, she really knows what she is looking for, but if you make a genuine effort (which I see if difficult for the people who have evaluated her so far) she will recognize it. So, I guess, if you have an interest in the subject, want to learn more about it, and want to feel like you have been made a better writer, researcher, and student, you should take Dr. Kuhn’s class. If not, then simply don’t take her.

Dr. Kuhn's lecture topics were fantastic. I really enjoyed the class and felt like I was learning a lot until we took the midterm. The class did fairly well on her essay questions, but the class average was less than 50% for her multiple choice questions. I assume the same happened for the multiple choice questions on the final. She asks questions where one answer is reasonably correct, and another (the "correct" one) refers to a one sentence reference in one of many 15 page papers we were required to read. I'm not sure how you would be able to get all of these questions correct without memorizing all of the readings. I really liked this class and I felt I had a great understanding of our class discussions, and the reading was a lot, but not too difficult. However, I find it really disturbing that a student can get A grades on nearly all quizzes and assignments, but get a C in her class because of her absurdly tricky multiple choice questions. The class spent hours trying to convince her that these questions were not fair and all she did was allow us to add a written answer to 3 questions, which doesn't really help if you didn't remember that one small part in one of the readings.

DK is pretty sweet. She's a nice young professor and while she's still getting the hang of things she seemed to be very fair and consistent throughout the quarter. Her tests were a little over the top but I felt that I was able to make up points in the writing assignments and final project. Plus, there's unlimited extra credit worth up to half a percentage point each(towards your final grade) for one page write ups on current events and lectures. In all I thought the class topics covered were very interesting and related to current events, I would definitely take another class with Dr. Kuhn again.

I don't think kuhn is a bad professor. Sure there was a lot of reading and she expected people to contribute to discussion a lot more than they wanted to, but I've had much worse professors. She really cares about her students and if you make an effort in her class she recognizes it and takes it into consideration when she's grading. I went to her office hours a few times and she really helped clarify what she wanted. Interesting topic too, though she makes her opinions on controversial issues obvious, which can be disheartening to those who disagree with her.

Avoid this lady at all costs. EXTREMELY biased and unprofessional. She makes her students feel super uncomfortable if you don't agree with her. Wow she is horrible. If you are conservative at all don't take this horrible lady. She always expresses her views and if you're not on her side then you don't really mean much to her. She's awful, I dreaded this class everyday.

I think Kuhn is a good professor. She encourages discussion and stimulates new thoughts and concepts. The reading is average for any upper division course, but it is pretty crucial to do. If you take her, force you self to be a part of the class discussions, do well on your mini case papers (go in for help and have her look at yours.. .literally she will tell you what you need), and again do the reading. Coming from someone who is somewhat conservative, I though it was a great class and I learned a ton. And, she really is just nice.

I just wanted to get this review up in case I can save any of you from taking to next quarter. Take this as you wish, but you should not take Kuhn if you are expecting an average GE workload. Or if you are one of the people that feel college is about learning, not about participation and mandated online discussion boards. The reading is not too bad and interesting but there is usually 2 papers that must be read before every class. Be prepared to talk about these readings in class as well. Participation is 10% but if you do not show up to class she starts docking your final score. Never had a professor that had that policy in all my 4 years at Poly, I usually have professors that are simply happy for you to learn and if you know the material without going to class, so be it, but Kuhn is not one. I doubt she will be getting tenure with that policy.

Kuhn is a very good professor and obviously knows a lot about her subject. I appreciated the fact that this was a religion class that examined the views of several different religions and did not force one belief on the class. That being said, this class was ridiculously difficult for a GE. Participation in class is a significant portion of your grade. The tests consist of multiple choice and essay questions. However, the multiple choice questions are in the format of A), B), C), D) A and B, E)All of the above, so you REALLY have to study hard and know the material. If you are looking for an easy GE don't take this class.

Dr. Kuhn is a really nice professor that gives a lot of options to students. The tests are a little tricky (She gives tricky multiple choice tests). We wrote three essays for this class that are easy to write if you read the articles, and are engaged in the class. The class overall was very interesting. The main two religions that you will learn in this class will be christianity, and Islam (Which are both interesting religions, in my opinion). Getting a "A" in this class is not going to be easy because of the trick questions of her tests. But you will easily get to a "B" with not so much effort. For the Winter 2013, She gave us the option to not take the FINAL, which was pretty awesome.

I was really excited to take this class but struggled in the beginning. You need to know the material inside and out her tests are multiple choice and an essay. She gives a study guide for her tests use them. This material is not easy unless you have studied sacred texts you will need to get to know what she puts on her slides. She is a tough grader on the writing assignments but she is fair and will offer a rewrite on the first. If you are not an excellent writer I recommend going to the writing center lab as they will be invaluable to your success. I learned so much, it has me fired up for my other WGS classes which are not easy. I think people think WGS classes are gonna be easy HA HA don't be fooled.

I don't know if Dr. Kuhn is different from one class to the other but this was the ABSOLUTE WORST class I have ever taken at Cal Poly. I have taken I number of religion classes and this one sounded particularly fun. Now, I regret ever taking this class. I have loved every single one of the religion classes I've taken up until now. I dreaded going to this class everyday and couldn't wait for it to be over. Dr. Kuhn didn't give us any of our papers back until the final week of class, some things are still ungraded and finals are over, so you didn't know what your grade was until the very end. Tough S*@# I guess. Everyone in our class got ripped apart on their papers when most of us do exceptionally well in our other courses. When you try to gain help it isn't beneficial at all. During class she has favorites and they just sit there making inappropriate jokes and instead of correcting them, as a teacher should, she just giggles along with them. Go ahead and take this class but it is NOTHING like what you think it will be. Unless you know a way to kiss up and get your papers graded well I wouldn't choose this course. Have fun!

Didn't learn anything. You work your butt of for no reason. In the end you get a horrible grade because though she gives you a "rubric" on what she wants from you in your writing it isn't how she grades. WORST CLASS and teacher I have ever had at Cal Poly. She should go back to the East Coast and teach there. Guess we don't know how to write here.

Kuhn's an alright teacher, but I expected the class to be a lot more interesting. We never really went as in depth on any of the topics as I would have expected from a college course, and listening to her lecture is a little like listening to a high schooler give a presentation for 2 hours. Be warned though, her her tests are surprisingly difficult. You'll be expected to know everything inside and out, so study study study!

Good class. The lectures are boring and frustrating, but that is because it is a GE class and almost no one in the class cares about the material. She gives a few papers to write each quarter, but they are very short and graded very fairly. She also has a midterm and final, mostly multiple choice. She curves the tests so much that you would have to be an idiot to not do well in the class. She gives a lot of cheesy assignments, such as meditating and keeping a tree journal, but she grades them easy and you can completely fabricate your experiences. Her best quality is that she is genuinely nice. She cares about her students, keeps a positive attitude, and almost makes you feel guilty for not enjoying the lectures because she is so nice. An easy A or B. Keeps participation points, but not only 10%

This class is really interesting. THere are a few writing assignments and a bit of reading. There\'s a lot about religion today, it\'s a thousand times mroe interesting than the religious studies classes that are all about history. Just do the reading ahead of time and you\'ll do fine. I love class discussions of the readings, it\'s much better than a professor talking at you for an hour straight about himself. Kuhn is by far the best teacher I\'ve had at CalPoly. she\'s really the only one who cares whether or not we understand the material.
