Absolutely loved her! So far, my favorite teacher at Cal Poly. The homework and investigation assignments were not too bad because we were allowed to work together and if you have a problem getting it to her that day she has no problem with people turning in hw late. I would recommend going to her office hours because she kinda drops some hints about what to expect on the upcoming midterm/final. Take her!

Olga! Best math teacher you could possibly get. She has an accent, but you can understand everything perfectly fine. Olga explains everything very well. She makes her self available in office hours and will show you how to do the problems step by step. She has a great sense of humor and made morning classes worth it.

Olga is a sweetheart. She has office hours every day and is very willing to help because she cares about her students. She uses Blackboard to post homework and test reviews so be sure to check it regularly. Sometimes her lectures are difficult to understand and no one really asks questions because it's the morning, but I suggest you do ask questions, or go to her office hours. We basically had two homework assignments due, a few short quizzes, and one review quiz every week. She will let you have group quizzes often. The homework problems from the book are pretty different from the quizzes and the questions she makes up, and they usually don't end up on the tests, but the quiz questions do. She goes through the homework thoroughly when grading. Four exams were listed on the syllabus but we only got to three. They usually happen every other week. She gives you review questions before each test which help, so do at least some of the example problems. She schedules a review before the final as well. Olga is here to help her students, so take advantage of it!

Love her! I first thought that with her accent it would be difficult to understand but she speaks english very well. she is always willing to help the class and I actually did learn a lot from her class. She's caring and wants everyone to understand the material AND get a good grade. Her test and quizzes were fair and she always prepared you for what you would be tested on, only downside of the class is that she does not grade the homeworks herself

She is an extremely intelligent woman who knows what she\'s doing; however, there are times when she can\'t clearly explain the concepts to the class. Therefore, it can be confusing at times. If that\'s the case, just go to office hours. She is VERY helpful, patient, and courteous. If you do all your work, you\'ll be fine.

Olga was a great professor. Her class was pretty easy. Most of the quizzes were group quizzes and the tests weren\'t that hard. She only assigns one homework per week and its not very long at all. She listens to her students and will really take into consideration any suggestion you give her even if it is \"we wanna work with 5 people on the quiz.\" i recommend her class

She has a beautiful soul. Despite her \"failure\" to explain the material clearly, it\'s not a difficult class and her tests are way easy. She\'s willing to work with you in every way possible. It was seriously my favorite class- the most fun by far. I loved listening to her say \"again\" after every five words and explain Type 1 and Type 2 errors for a whole class, relating it to a prisoner who is \"not\" guilty/innocent. Wears the same slacks and wedges every day. She\'s a beautiful person.

This class is EXTREMELY difficult! Do not take Professor Olga's 252 class unless you have no other choice. Her teaching is very unclear. The class consists of 4 homeworks, 8 labs, 12 quizzes, 3 midterms, and a cumulative final exam. This class consumed my life for 10 weeks, and I could not be happier that the quarter is over. To be fair Professor Olga is super nice. She is always quick to respond to emails, and she is always very helpful in office hours. She is an extremely devoted professor, and it seems like she has no time to live her own life. I do not know how she does it.

Olga is the coolest stats teacher ever! Just make sure you know how to spell her last name. She grades fair, and does her best to help you get an A. Your grade is mostly based on 2 midterms and a final, as well as a few homework assignments and a group project which is pretty easy.

Olga is the best teacher ever. Her class is super easy. There are only like 4 homework assignments and they take only like 30 minutes. The project she has you do is really easy. On test if you ask her questions she will always help you out. You can always squeeze a couple of extra credit points out of her. Simply put she is the best teacher ever.

Olga is the best stat 252 teacher!!! I took her class winter 2008 and she was new...I think it was either her first or second quarter teaching at Cal Poly. She has a Russian accent but you can still understand her really well. She presents material through powerpoint and then does examples on minitab. Her weekly homework load took me about 20 minutes per week. She had quizzes on a weekly basis but every quiz had a bonus point. The midterms and finals had bonus points as well. Those bonus points add up pretty quickly! Her grading is spread pretty evenly and so none of the tests will hurt your grade significantly. There's a group project at the end of the quarter but she grades that pretty easily. This class is an easy A and on top of that you actually learn!

Olga is amazing. She honestly cares about her students and genuinely wants everyone to pass. Go to class and take her little quizzes which are given randomly. Go to the scheduled reviews. If you do these two things as well as the homework, (which was due every Tuesday...all 3 problems...not bad at all) you will actually learn stats...good luck

Olga is an amazing instructor -- she is knowledgeable, helpful, and genuinely cares about how her students do in her classes. Olga knows statistics and understands how to teach the subject (and works with students during her office hours, before her 8:00am class (!) and at other set appointment times...). So she is able to understand how each student learns differently and works with them to learn/understand the material. She wants her students to do well and to truly grasp the concepts. The grade breakdown is great -- 2 midterms, a final, quizzes, homework, and a project -- so students are not heading into this course with a huge amount of pressure to do well on the three exams. If you put in the time and effort, you can do well in this course... even if you are not a stats person (as I am not...).

Olga was great!! She really wants her students to do well. She gives quite a few quizzes, but she generally warns you on when they're coming and gives tons of "bonus" points on almost everything. The 2 mid-terms and the final are not too difficult. The homeworks are easy if you pay attention in class, and the final project at the end of the year is an easy 15% of your grade. Take her if you can!!

Olga is a wonderful teacher and a great person. She really cares about her students and will do almost anything to help them learn. On one occasion she stayed up all night grading our tests so they could be returned early. She responds to e-mails very promptly and is very willing to clarify and explain. There are homework assignments and quizzes about once a week. The class was almost too easy; I studied minimally and still got a good grade. She does review sessions before tests and gives out study guides. GREAT TEACHER!

Olga is a very nice lady. Her tests are pretty easy and her quizzes are straightforward. After having her for a second straight quarter (251 to 252), I have found some negatives to her class unfortunately. First of all, the homework is ridiculous. Anything that is ever on the homework will not show up on quizzes/tests (the quizzes and tests are way easier as you are given the minitab output instead of having to create it like on the homework). She also has someone else grade the homework and they are a nazi as far as accuracy so it ends up lowering your grade when it shouldn't. I felt as if I was going to go out of the class with an A as I did well on the tests, but I guess the homework screwed me over. Stupid. Olga is also a little difficult to understand sometimes and you can find yourself spacing off because you can't understand what she is saying. Granted, you get used to it after awhile but you still find yourself going off on individual tangents which turned into a problem for me throughout the quarter. I would find myself not understanding a certain subject and thus doing poorly on the quiz. However, Olga likes to give group quizzes which are nice because everyone basically works together and you're pretty much guaranteed a 100% on the quiz. When all said and done, Olga is still the best stats teacher and is the most understanding and respectful by far. Take her if you can!

Olga is one of my favorite professors I have had to date. The homework is a lot harder than the tests so you are extremely prepared when it comes to tests and quizzes. Also if you get a bad grade on the homework and you go to office hours she will almost always give go over it with you and give you a higher grade. She is super understanding. Although she does give quizzes most Fridays to make sure you come to class they are pretty easy. If stats is hard for you definitely take Olga!

Professor Dekhtyar is very friendly and on the first day of class, she told us to call her Olga because her last name was hard to pronounce. Olga presented the material with ease and knows what she\'s talking about. The homework could be done w/ another person and it\'s easy for the most part. Quizzes are easy as well because it\'s done in groups and sometimes w/ open notes. If you are a math guru, don\'t expect this class to do a lot of calculations because Olga has a lot of conceptual questions instead that she likes applied instead of calculating the \"numbers\". For the tests, you would have to study the handouts she gives out in class, the practice mid-terms, and go to her office hours and ask questions if something is unclear. She does require a project that you have to turn in, but she gives ample amount of time to finish the work. Great Professor.. 3 mid-terms//quizzes//homework//project//Final. Highly recommend.

Olga is great. I was sad to see the quarter come to an end. She is really helpful when it comes to answering questions whether in class or during office hours. There are a number of quizzes, but they are usually taken with a group. They help prepare you for the midterms, which aren\'t that bad as long as you know the material. She likes to ask trick questions but you start catching on to them. Overall, I would recommend Olga to anyone who had to take STAT 251/252. She\'s the best.

Olga is one of those teachers that is just so cute. i had her for stat 251 and 252 and both classes were fairly easy. she has statistical jokes to tell everyday before the lecture begins and brings the class milk and cookies for the final and candies for every midterm. she might have truble trying to explain herself sometimes, and there will be times that you ask a question and she answers it with something that is toatlly irrelevant. she goes a little fast, there where 3 midterms, a final group project adn a midterm, but none of them were too bad, you just really have to study your notes. i recommend going to her office hours because she is very helpful there, she will feed you candy and pretty much do your homework for you, she helps a lot. gives plebty of extra credit and is a very laid back teacher. i definitely recommend taking olga.

I can pretty easily say Olga is my favorite teacher at Cal Poly. She really, really cares about her students. Because of my 251 teacher I was really stressing about taking 252. I hated Stats with a passion. However after the first week, I wasn\'t as afraid. I went into office hours after the first homework to clarify some issues and ended up doing every single other homework assignment in her office with a group. Make friends the first week of class because if you can work with people it\'ll make everything painless. This is not a class you want to take on by yourself. Also, if Ross is doing a workshop, I wouldn\'t recommend signing up for it necessarily because it is extremely time consuming, but definitely go. I got an A- but I would have been a lot less stressed out had I gone to more of the workshops, and I truly owe that grade to the few workshops I did go to. After the first two midterms, the material gets confusing so go to the workshops!!!!! TAKE OLGA! She is amazing!!!!! Even if it\'s at 8 in the morning, trust me she\'s worth it!

TAKE OLGA!!! I can\'t say it any more clearly. She is the best professor I have ever had. I have never seen anyone care about their student\'s success more than Olga does. There is homework once a week that you can do with a partner and occasional partner quizzes that are only meant to help your grade. She loves statistic jokes and gives extra credit if you send them to her. She is so willing to help and her office hours are very helpful. This teacher is amazing. She has a heavy russian accent and sometimes things can be lost in translation when you are asking her questions or when she tries to explain something. However she completely makes up for it with her great class structure. She pre-assigns the homework days in the begining of the quarter and gives you plenty of time to complete the assignments and only strays from the plan when it benefits all students. All her lectures are from material covered in the book and follow worksheets she prints out so it makes everything so easy to follow. She is such a sweet heart and cares so much for her students and devotes so much time to helping her students understand the material.

Overall, I didn\'t like this class. Although she was living in Us for a lomg time her English is really bad. She lacks words to explain the matterial and she expects the class to help her. Her test are difficult and cover a lot more than the matterial covered in class. The lectures in class are based on her notes which most of the time I found difficult to follow. The exams unfortunatelly are not only based on the notes but also on the book. She has 4 tests which are extremelly diffilt. The only good think is that she allowes one page notes for each exams which most of the time deosn\'t help at all because some of the questions have never been covered in class. She spends her office hours helping the students to understand the matterial she couldn\'t explain in class.I attended her office hours almost everyday and even I did, I had a lot of problems with the matterial. When she wasn\'t able to adress my questions she asked other students to do it. Overall, SUCKED!!!!

She was the first professor that I encounter that truly cares for her students, but her teaching method did not work for me. All her lectures are based on handouts, which she does not fully cover. Her teaching style is jumbled and Im pretty sure shes a mail order wife who is given a script by her husband to teach us absolutely nothing. Her accent is ridiculous and makes it understand what the ef she's talking about. If you want to take her, know that youre in for a quarter of busy work and sitting there thinking why the fuck did I take this teacher. Because of her Im never using poly ratings again. @ the Freshman below...her husband doesn't even teach STATS. OLGA CARES! A lot of material to cover in a short amount of time, so yes, she seems rushed. And true, she always keeps us a few minutes past the hour. But nut up and ask if you're having trouble understanding something and she'll go over it! If we don't finish the handout, she posts the solutions online, and answers are easily found in teh book. I've never had a teacher so interested in both the material AND her students. She held study sessions on weekends before the midterms! Her Office Hours were like 15 hours per week! She will let you take the midterms on alternate days if you have two midterms on the same day! She responds to e-mails IMMEDIATELY and will MAKE time for you if you seek help. She prints handouts every lecture which are EXTREMELY helpful! Forget looking over past midterms or reading the book, I just studied her handouts and did great on all exams (she's an extremely lenient grader). I took AP Statistics my senior year of high school, so this class was a lot of review. Olga's tests are long, but manageable if you paid attention in class and did the homework. Homework is due twice a week, but its nothing too difficult. We took 12 short quizzes through the quarter, but they alternated between partner and individual. For every full week you attended class, she added a point to the Final test. Aside from the class, Olga really takes her time to get to know her students on a more personal level. In the beginning of the quarter, I did not like her very much because the way she presented the materials was confusing to me. However, I have realized by the end of the quarter that Stat 252 is just hard! Olga does try her best to clarify all the main concepts, but you really have to spend time outside of class to connect the dots. She is a sweet lady, and she is probably the best teacher to take for Stat 252!

Class was not helpful. I unfortunately do not understand what most people say about Olga being a great teacher. Maybe I just didn't get stats, but that seems unlikely to me. Considering I learned almost nothing I guess it good that she gave me a B. The tests are poorly written and hard to follow. The quizzes are just a pain, and the homework was boring. However, Olga was one of the nicest teachers I have ever had. She was very sweet and considerate. However, overall this was a poor class.

First off, Olga is an awesome person. Such a sweet lady and makes an effort to get to know all of her students and tries really hard in office hours to help her students understand the information. With that said, GO TO HER OFFICE HOURS. Because she isn't the greatest professor. She goes pretty fast through her handouts and jumps around on things to where it can be hard to follow along taking notes. If you learn well just by listening to things, you might do better. I am a note taker and I struggled. If you zone out for more than 10 seconds (which we all tend to do occasionally in an AM class) then usually you would be lost or would miss something important. The class was not what I anticipated from the PolyRatings. But overall, if you go to her office hours you will be fine. I didn't figure that out until late into the quarter unfortunately..

Olga is a very sweet lady who clearly loves statistics and her students. Her class can definitely be overwhelming if you miss even one or two days, so try to have perfect attendance! She offered our class 1 point of extra credit on the final for each week of perfect attendance, which was very nice. The most confusing part of her class is when she tries to teach/have us use JMP in our homework. Hopefully she improves this instruction in the future. Olga is very happy to help answer any questions both in class and in her office hours. She makes herself available even outside her normal hours and is extremely accommodating. Get help as soon as you need it and take the supplemental workshop for this class! Relatively easy B, A is doable but will require lots of work (as it should at a good school like Cal Poly).

Like all of these comments say, Olga is the absolute BEST professor. Even if you have to be on the wait list to get into her class...DO IT! She has 3 exams which may sound like a lot, but when the final comes around it is that much easier because you've been tested on all the material and are VERY familiar with it. She will let you do the hw in groups and the quizzes are 90% of the time take home. Excellent all around.

Olga is one of the nicest professors at Cal Poly. She has office hours everyday and will go out of her way to make sure you understand the material. I know I'm alone in this but I didn't think Olga was a great professor. I got an A in 251 but for some reason failed miserably in every part of 252. I really didn't think I'd pass. I attended the workshops, read the textbook, went to office hours, and tried with all my might but the concepts just made no sense to me. It probably wasn't Olga's fault but I don't know what else I could have done to succeed in that class.

Wow, I was completely let down by Polyratings for this teacher. I went out of my way to get up early because I read that Olga was the best stats teacher by far. Wrong. If you enjoy not comprehending the lectures, this class is for you. If you enjoy having 2 hws a week, plus 15 quizzes peppered throughout the quarter, then this class is for you. If you enjoy answering the test questions correctly, but get points marked off because your explanation of your answer wasn't deemed good enough, then this class is for you. Olga is admittedly very nice, but the class itself was just god awful.

Olga is the type of instructor who is there for her students. She wants you to succeed and understand the material she assigns. I was unable to attend the workshops, but felt that she was available more than any other instructor I have had. I must say though, if it weren't for my study group I would have had a difficult time with the course material. It is tough information to understand and needs major time dedicated to this course. The projects were time consuming and intense, but they really helped me maintain a solid B throughout the quarter. Olga was rooting for me to succeed from day one and there is nothing better than that!

Olga is OVERRATED. Whatever comes out of her mouth just doesn't make sense. She is not helpful at all. Don't get me wrong she is a sweet lady and very nice but ultimately just isn't that helpful. Very confusing class and you pretty much have to teach the subject on your own. She also is very biased to kids that take the workshop with the kid names Jimmy (in a good way). It seems like you have to take the workshop to do well in her class because the stuff that shows up on quizzes and tests are what is gone over in those classes, but is never talked about in class. Also, every class Olga holds you about five minutes after the hour. In addition, she seems to be very unorganized. Glad this is the last time I have to deal with this Ruski.

The ratings below of from lazy students who want the easy way out. Olga's class will work for you if you put in the time and actually understand the concepts. Go to class, study her hand outs, and do all the practice problems. If you don't understand something then ask her. She ALWAYS answers questions. One huge downside were the multiple choice parts on her exams. She will teach you more than any other 252 professor at Cal Poly. Expect this class to be fair but challenging.

I struggled a lot with this class cause it's so early in the morning. If you know you won't go to class, avoid taking Olga. She goes incredibly fast on her powerpoints and I found it really hard to keep up with. She uploads her notes and sometimes the solutions as well. If you're gonna skip class, you will definitely be lost since she moves so quickly. I enjoyed the online quizzes cause I googled a lot of the questions and asked my classmates which definitely helped me. Olga is incredibly nice and understands if you're willing to email her and just tell her your situation. I missed a few quizzes, forgot to turn in homework, and had to move my final date. Final words: Take Olga if you know you can attend class all the time, I would enroll in the supplemental workshop (it helped so much!), HAVE A SOLID HOMEWORK GROUP (seriously, it's so helpful) I don't know how I ended up with a B- in the class, but I'm not gonna question it.

Seriously one of the best teachers i've ever had in my life. This was really my first class in college, as i had it at 7 am everyday, and Olga was wonderful, even at that hour. I ended up missing a lot of class later on in the quarter, which hit my grade pretty hard. It just shows that she did a great job of explanation in person. She was always available for questions and genuinely cared not only about the success of her students, but the students themselves. Her office hours are very helpful as she will guide you through any issues you have on homework or tests, and she is just fun to hang out with a get to know. The class isn't too time consuming considering it's just one set of homework a week usually and that can be done in groups. Overall i would very highly recommend taking 252 with Olga.

Honestly, don't take this communist. She is a Russian kike. She will NOT bump your grade up, and she is very hard to follow. During lectures you will be lost as to where to write down stuff on the handouts because she is all over the place. This class is so damn time consuming that you honestly want to have 2 other classes in your schedule and nothing else. Her quizzes are online, half of the questions you can find on the web, the other half you'll actually have to figure out. Her accent is really annoying, she is genuinely nice and wants her students to succeed, but she is not a good teacher. Her tests were difficult and long for 50mins. Mini projects and hw were bullshit. They take up so much time. 4 MP's and 7 HW's throughout the quarter. Like I said, this class is fucking time consuming, do not take more than 2 other classes. And be prepared to get kiked.

I got a B+ in this course. She was an ok teacher. A lot of people love her, and a lot of people hate her. I think I'm in the middle. In my opinion, as a teacher, she's nothing special. She gets flustered in what she's saying sometimes, she is very disorganized, and she can get behind very easily. That being said, she really cares about the students and wants to see them succeed. She loves helping students. She recognizes when a student is trying his/her hardest and will try to find anyway to reward that student within reason. If you think you got a bad grade on something, bring it to her and argue for your grade (kindly of course), even if she disagrees, she may give you points back for your effort and determination. As a person I absolutely adore her, she's hilarious and has a kind heart. As a teacher, I think she needs a lot of work.

Has no idea what she is doing. Her handouts are a mess of incoherent paragraphs which serve no purpose as she covers maybe 1 sentence out of the entire page. She spends 30 minutes of the 50 talking about her life and then squeezes the entire lecture as the class is ending and expects you to able to do her homework. I read her ratings and thought it would be okay to take her class, but I definitely regret it. DO NOT take this course.

Though her lectures were rushed and sometimes confusing, she is the most genuine and funny teacher you'll have here at Cal Poly. She's very helpful during office hours, and will accommodate your life very well (meaning: she understands that life gets in the way sometimes, and she'll let you take midterms later, or the final early, or whatever). She learned everyone's names by the 2nd week of class...which shows how much she cares. She sometimes spent too much time using TopHat at the beginning of class instead of lecturing, but it's understandable. 10/10 recommend Olga!!

Olga is cool. Had her 7 am and was somehow able to teach me something at the break of dawn, which is a lot to be said in itself. Somehow got an A, no reason anyone should fail this class if you show up everyday and ask for help in her office hours. Midterms aren't terrible, but aren't necessarily easy. You get a lot of cheat sheets for them and the final as well, so I'd say that about sums her up: she wants you to be successful, and yes this class can be difficult at times even with the notes right in front of you.

Oh Olga! She is the type of professor that comes across as so nice that you don't want to hate her, but you will, just wait. First off, don't let that steer you away from taking this class. Despite everything, it is still very doable. She presents the material in such a random fashion that it is hard to follow sometimes but by the end of each topic you are somehow able to piece together all the pieces she presented not in chronological order. However to do this, you have to be going over worksheets every day. This is the first class that I have truly worked on every single day. Second, she is the most scatter brain, ADD person I have ever met. She will send you a thousand emails a day as ideas pop into her head so constantly be checking your email for that last minute quiz she assigns at 11 PM that is due by class time the next day. It is ridiculous honestly how many emails I get from her (minimum of 4 a day). Third, she says she understands that we have other classes and tries to adjust her assignment load according but fails miserably in doing so. You have a lab due every monday (which takes about 4-5 hours), homework due every Wednesday (which takes anywhere from 1-3 hours), quizes whenever she is feeling spontaneous (which take about 45 minutes), and you need to stay on top of the in-class worksheets or you will have no idea what she is talking about (those certainly add an extra 2 hours a week to review and fill in the blanks you missed during class because she goes over things so fast). Fourth, she pretends like she is accommodating of your needs, but she isn't, so don't ask for extensions and stay on top of your shit. She does play favorites though, A LOT, so if you speak Russian definitely play that to your advantage (there are even extra credit questions that involve you knowing how to read Russian). Honestly, this woman is bat shit crazy and this class is a tremendous amount of work but all in all still worth it. Just go into knowing you are not going to be able to slack off. The course structure is made up of 3 midterms (13% each), the final (23%), homework, labs, quizes, and in class participation (which is graded based on correctness even though you know nothing because it comes from stuff you haven't learned yet). This class is definitely for the hard working. I will probably get a B+ or A- in this class but that is with easily putting in 10+ hours a week for this one class. Worth it, but hate Olga.

Olga was okay. I took her at 7 AM because so many people raved about her, which wasn't the worst thing in the world but it also wasn't the best. I wouldn't go back and do it again, just because I felt like Olga didn't live up to the hype. If you are a student who learns well from really organized notes and worksheets, Olga is not the professor for you. She has a million thoughts bouncing around everywhere all the time and she can be difficult to follow. That being said, Olga is a very kind and compassionate lady, and she is always available to help during office hours (which she has right after her classes 5 days a week!) and she tries to plan quizzes around the class. Her midterms are hard as is the final, but I felt like the labs and homework were more difficult than the actual exams. Try to gradually work at the homework and labs and not do them the night of, because they do take several hours. Overall, this was not a very fun class just because the material and the textbook aren't that great, and Olga was just an okay professor. If you do end up taking her, I would highly recommend taking a supplemental workshop. It is probably the only reason I was able to get a B in this class. Also, try to go into office hours as often as you can because she does seem to be kinder and more easy of a grader to those who do. Good luck!

Olga has the biggest heart, and she really cares about her students. That being said, her class was rough. I mean really rough. It was kind of all over the place, and if you prefer structure in a class, then try to find a different professor. She'll randomly assign homework and quizzes, and the labs can be tricky if you miss a second of the material. She is really helpful in office hours, and she does have them every day, but there are also quite a few other people so it can be hard to ask questions. I absolutely loved taking her class she is one of the most understanding professors i've had here. While her schedule is super busy she allows herself to be very available to help students and would always reply to my emails within the same day multiple times! Her office hours would get crowded so I recommend going to them earlier in the quarter to make sure you understand the information and don't wait till the last minute to start the labs. She always seemed to run out of time so make sure when in class you take good effective notes(I took all my notes on my laptop by filling out handouts and putting those and all other electronic documents all in Google Drive. The class has lots of computer work with JMP and a little excel so I found this the most effective way to stay organized). Great professor as far as giving us the tools to succeed. If I didn't get blocked into her class at 7am and didn't have another class during her office hours, I'm sure I would've done much better. Only getting like 6 or less hours of sleep at night really sucked and I couldn't focus in class to the extent I wanted to. Getting anything but A's in high school was unheard of for me but I just took the L first quarter of freshman year and I honestly blame it on lack of sleep. If you're struggling with the homework and you can't attend her office hours, go to the Peer Tutor sessions hosted by OCOB students and also sign up for a study session or workshop. I went to the peer tutoring and study sessions and it made understanding the homework way easier. There are 3 midterms and one final and she allows you to have cheat sheets on all of the tests including the final. Just pay attention in class, go to office hours, and do the homework with others and you'll get at least a B without having to try too hard.

She is funny and offers a lot of extra credit. That being said, I HATE STATS! Don't get me wrong- this was still a difficult class. The workload was more than I had hoped for (college... *sadface*). She started assigning homework everyday towards the end of the quarter, but hopefully she'll stop doing that since everyone was not too fond of that idea. This is not a class where you will be spoon fed. You get out of it what you put in. Read the book, go to office hours, ask questions, do reviews, do the practice problems, study LOTS. Olga is a very sweet and personable professor. She definitely cares about her students and is always happy to help during her office hours if you are struggling in her class. STAT 252, being a five-unit class, is difficult but I thought that her expectations for us were reasonable. She assigns labs on a weekly basis and textbook work every now and then. That being said, sometimes it is very hard to understand the information from her lectures. She can sometimes be disorganized and all over the place in the way she teaches to the class, and her labs are similar in that everything is in different fonts and sizes and colors (but the latter might just be a personal issue haha). This class uses JMP which is statistical software that is super cool and interesting. She is a good professor if you think stats are interesting. She gives 3 midterms and a final. There is not much homework, just a take home lab every week. My advice would be to never print the handouts she emails. Just bring your laptop to class every day and open them on there. I would also advice that you make "roadmaps" for each test: 2 sample t test, paired, anova, and all the other ones. Write down JMP steps on paper or you will forget how to make models. She lets you make note sheets and bring them in to each test. She lets you have 9 cheat notes on your final which you don;t even need but very nice of her. She also lets you sit in on the later class whenever you want if you are in her earlier sections.

She is very understanding and will work with you in you are having problems! She always gave us plenty of time to work on the homework and labs so I never felt stressed to get them done. Her tests could be tricky, but she always let us take a "cheat sheet" in with us which was so nice! She even gave us participation points just for coming to class and playing her Kahoots. Take Olga if you have the chance or try to switch into her class!

Olga was a very fair and understanding professor. She made the material easy to understand and kept it interesting somehow. Test are fair, would recommend.

I think the only reason people would shit on this class is because stats is just hard for those who are better suited for algebra and calculus. Olga has been a really caring and considerate teacher and I think she teaches the class really well compared to the other stats teachers. We use this computer program called JMP which helps a lot in practical applications of stats (using databases and computers rather than a calculator and manual calculations). She makes sure to answer questions and knows everyone’s name which is nice too. She’s just a regular Russian lady who likes to joke around (even though her jokes are painfully mom-like). Definitely a class you need to study for, but as long as you do all the homework (which is not a lot at all — no more than 2 assignments due a week max or sometimes none) and review all the worksheets she gives you, you’ll be set. No textbook either! I def recommend Olga. Overview: - we use an online computing application called JMP which is relatively easy to learn and use - little homework. Usually an at home lab (set of problems using JMP) due every Tuesday and sometimes a handwritten homework assignment. - a few in class quizzes. They’re super easy and always announced. - midterms are hard. I can admit the midterms are very difficult and application based, but if u want to do well u just gotta grind like every other class and get the concepts down - 3 midterms 1 final - office hours are super helpful so if ur lost in class that’s up to you to go to office hours and get ur shit sorted — which will help a lot!

Olga is THE best stats teacher in mankinds history. Back in the days before the glyphs were translated into common language there was a prophecy that there would one day be an epic stats teacher. That had been fulfilled in the form of Professor Olga Dekhtyar. She holds office hours almost every day and is extremely helpful and nice. She offers tons of extra help because stats is a very difficult class. I am so thankful to have had her, and I'm sorry that she doesn't expand to enlighten other departments on how they can be more like her.

Very disappointed in this class. It is online right now in the midst of the coronavirus. She has NOT adapted well. The quizzes are ridiculous for the material covered in class. You go through the week understanding the homework and labs, feeling confident that you understand what is going on. She has not been accommodating in the grading, even when numerous students explain that the questions were not fair or did not understand what she was looking for. While she is nice, she is not an organized professor in making sure that students are learning the content that they need to learn. Seriously, disappointment is an understatement.
