Professor Kominitsky (Mr. K) is a very fair teacher. Some of the material is stupid and we talk about random topics about writing that we rarely used, but I believe this is the courses fault, not his. His grading is very straightforward and he will tell you exactly what you need to fix if you want a better grade. Which is the best part of the course, revise an essay by fixing all the mistakes that he noted on your paper and you will most likely get 1/3 to 2/3 of a better grade on it (B- to B or B- to B+). This may not seem like a lot but considering the big essays are worth 20% of your grade, a change like this could boost your grade a lot. I revised 1 essay and my class grade went from a B to A-. Mr. K is a fun guy who likes to have some fun and he is extremely fair if you approach him with some kind of logical argument

Kominitsky was one of the worst English teachers I've ever had. The entire course is made up of assigned reading assignments, then reflecting on them in your journal or doing assignments from the book, and a total of 3 essays. For the first half of the class I read all of the assignments and gave thorough reflections in my journal. However, I finally realized there was no need to even read the assignments. He literally restates the entire piece you read. I didn't read anything the second half and still knew what he was talking about. On top of that, he says that participation is key, but I rarely spoke and still got a good grade. He picks favorites and usually gets way off topic. A friend of mine didn't get full credit in her journal even though she did every assignment well, while he said she didn't do all of them. He basically talked his way out of admitting he didn't read through her journal. As for the essays, I got good grades on the ones I tried, and a mediocre grade on the last one because I knew I could get a B without trying. The essays are the only things he'll grade fairly. The rest is a breeze. Hope you can handle his stupid jokes and retard-proof lectures.

Kominitsky is pretty cool for 134. I'm a pretty good writer to begin with, and didn't really take took much out of this class (I found out that I could have tested out of it / gotten out of it with my HS classes), but it was fun. The only crappy thing was that it was at 7 am. But if you are looking for an english class that is fairly laid back, go with Kominitsky. We originally had 4 essays, but he got rid of the last one, and we had no finals / tests / quizzes. Attendance was graded though... But he is pretty understanding if you have an emergency come up. I would definitely recommend going to his office hours because he will help you out, and even if he doesn't really improve your paper, he'll grade you a little easier because he knows you went out of your way to go get another opinion. Basically, if you can't get a B in this class, you either should take remedial english, or stop skipping.
