Wiley is a cool guy. He's a new teacher, so is still figuring out how he wants to run his classes. He assigns marketing teams that will write a marketing plan paper by the end of the quarter. First, you write four smaller papers that you can then compile into one at the end, so make sure you pay attention to his corrections. He prefers to let students teach class, so each team presents a chapter with a powerpoint. This is really easy because you don't have to go indepth and your presentation is graded by the class, who always gives A's. He has several midterms, but if you study the terms from the end of each chapter in the book, and go to the books website to take online quizzes and study, you'll get an easy A. He's really nice, wants to be your friend. The class isn't very demanding so definitely take him. P.S. my personal hint, sit in the front row

Wiley is a G. Not only does he have tons of experience, he makes marketing interesting (which it already is). He loves discussing current topics about advertising. Make your own videos for the group projects-he loves that! He also understands if you hate public speaking, so don't worry about not doing to well on your talks.

Easiest class EVER. Class average was an A. You don't really have to come to class unless you want the five or points of extra credit he gives during the quarter. The class is out of 200 points so it helps. He doesn't seem to know what he's talking about but he gives you the exact page numbers on the book to focus on. So, if you just read the textbook you should be fine. The group project is a bitch. His grading is a bit arbitrary so make sure to put in lots of useless pictures in a nice glossy cover and he'll give you an A.

Wiley is awesome! He is a cool guy and keeps the class entertained. You dont even have to go to this class most of the time because he takes the quizzes and tests straight from the book, he also tells you exactly what chapter(s) the tests will be on. I did go to most of the classes anyway though because the subject is interesting and he had some pretty interesting stories and takes on things. Course is made up of a few one chapter quizzes, a couple three chapter midterms and a final, a simple two minute group presentation, a quick write up about a current news article dealing with marketing, and a 20 page marketing plan which I know sounds like a lot but its quite easy because you are in a group of 8 people and are forced to work on it slowly all quarter, and its fun. I would have got an A but some dumb shit in my group left the last two pages of our fucking marketing plan off!

Professor Wiley is way cool. He has interesting stories (mainly all about the boating business) HE is fun and definite easy A. You learn a lot for how easy it is. I recommend this call to anyone looking to have fun, learn a lot and get a good grade for very little work.

wiley poole is fucking awesome!!! he tells you exactly what he wants you to know, is straight forward, and is a fun guy. even thought i had his class early friday mornings, (lets face it... i had much better things to do on thursday nights), i still wanted to go to his class. his quizzes and tests are simple as long as you have at least paid a little attention to his lectures and skimmed the book. basically need to know the bold print and whatever pages he tells you specifically to read, other that that, don't waste your time with the rest of the text. Bottom line: TAKE WILEY POOLE ANY CHANCE YOU GET!!!

I am a very good student who ended up with a good grade--but I definitely cannot agree he was a good professor. Allow me to define the word "easy." Most people like him, because he makes you learn very little in class--or his tests are open-book or on questions he already asked. If you want to learn something however, he just does not cut it. He may have improved since the time I took him and if he did, then good. I hope he has better control with his students and not give leniency to those who plagiarize their essays.

probably one of the easiest classes ive ever taken. you can probably really only go to class for the tests and still get a B in class. it's one of those classes where you don't HAVE to be there to know what's going on. his tests are all very straightforward, he tells you what to focus on aned believe it or not the class average for the final was an A!!! the choice is clear... TAKE WILEY POOLE!!!!!!!

Professor Poole is an easy teacher. He barely assigns homework, just 3 short group project papers and 2 easy assignments. If you pay attention in class and do the reading, you don't need to study much for the tests and you can easily get an A or B on them. There's also an in class essay that is based on your group's marketing project, but he grades relatively easy. I BSed a lot of it and still got a high grade. His lectures are entertaining, and although he talks about his boat magazine a lot, the information is relevant to the class and helps you understand the material. Definitely take him!

Wiley Poole is a pretty good teacher. He is pretty entertaining and keeps the lectures interesting. However, he is always talking about boats, since that is is forte, and just about every example he gives involves his boat magazine business. The class is organized with 3 midterms and a final. These tests are quite thorough and require much studying. The midterms are multiple choice and 40 questions each. Three tests seems like a lot because you are taking one every two weeks or so. The final was very comprehensive and cumulative and contained 100 questions. Some of the questions are a little bit vague and hard to decipher. The class routine is pretty cool with people doing article presentations in the beginning and people doing advertisement presentations after the break. I always enjoyed the ads as people try to pick the funniest ads. The articles and ads are part of your group work and you need to pick an article and an ad as it pertains to the current chapter you are reading. There is a lot of reading in this class. Be prepared to read the entire textbook, as you read about 15 chapters and over 250 pgs. of material. The other aspect of the group work are the team papers. You need to be in a good group otherwise your grade will suffer. Luckily, I was in a pretty good group. The team papers are rather long and since doing long papers with a group is naturally a bit difficult, the papers are not much fun. Each paper is about 15 pages double spaced and relates to the four Ps, placement, product, price, promotion and very importantly target markets. These papers take a bit of time and Wiley grades them fairly difficult. At the end there is a comprehensive in class summary, which is individual, and you need to write about your group's marketing plan and business ideas. This was a fairly difficult test also. Overall this class was a lot of work and required a lot of time and effort on my part. Poole is a good teacher and is always willing to be accomodating and help students, it is just that his class requires a lot of work and study. Take him if you can.

Wiley's lectures lack substance and relevance to the course. Attending class is rarely necessary. I'm not convinced that Wiley is fit to teach. He has very little credibility in marketing or business in general. I was considering a concentration in marketing, but can't stand the thought of taking another class where I learn absolutely nothing.

by far the worst class i had at poly. It is offending that Cal Poly even offers a class with such a professor. It's not that its very hard its an easy B but it is very ridiculous that the professor comes to class and talks about super irrelevant articles for 2 hours because he has no idea what topic he was supposed to teach that day. I am pretty sure he is incapable of grading our papers because he has never actually read any of the material and that if he took any of the tests he would fail them. He is never at his office hours and all you get back for tests is your scantron, so you can't know what questions you had missed on the tests (so you are bound to make those same mistakes on the cumulative final). This class is a waste of time and your money and i would probably skip a quarter at cal poly just to avoid this class but hopefully its not even offered again

Wiley Poole is not the best teacher. He does not come prepared to his class and he goes off in the most irrelevant tangents. He tells you to read a certain chapter and turns out it was a different chapter because he had a different version of the book. He has another full time job and doesnt give his students his full attention. He'd rather leave right after class to go to his real job rather than help his students. The tests could have been easy if he went over the material in class, but he doesn't. He'd rather talk about his life and how it relates to marketing, which doesn't help at all. I would suggest taking someone else for BUS 346.

I fucking hate this guy. Not only does he not teach, he is an arse and a fool. If you can help it, DON'T TAKE THIS GUY UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES. He is full of arrogance and superiority. He thinks he is good enough at what he does to be a professor but he sucks ass. Take one look at his smug face and gtfo. By far the worst professor I have ever had. He doesn't do anything. A typical class day, "So, anyone know what happened in Chicago this weekend?" No, Poole, we didn't fucking read that one specific article you read about this one really specific thing. "Ohhhhh really? Come on guys!" For about half the class time. Fucking waste. And he takes roll, so you are required to be there while you want to die of boredom and frustration at losing all your brain cells listening to a guy who has obviously had a traumatic love-hate relationship with sailing and his father's boat/magazine business. Nobody cares, we want to actually learn something. The material itself is good, Take marketing with ANYONE, and i mean ANYONE else. You will be very glad you did.
