Hello... First of all Lina is from another country. Which, is not a problem. Unless you are in her class. There are 5 main reasons why this is a problem: Reason 1: She makes up words. Such as, "EXTREMER." It can be a little distracting. Reason 2: Apparently, in her native country, helping students in a nusince... because she won't do it. Reason 3: Email was invented in the United States. This is a problem because she will not awnser your emails. And if she does they will completely ignore the questions you want awnsered. Reason 4: The people in her country are really good at statistics. So... if you don't understand what she is talking about and decide her to ask about it she'll be pissed. Or look at you like you have just said possibly the most stupid thing anyone has ever said....ever. Reason 5: If you ignore the made up words and her astonishing ability to avoid helping her students.... Lina is really nice... in comparision with a saber tooth tiger. So thank you Lina... for all the help you didn't give and all the real words you didn't say. Great Quarter. Love you! MUAH!

Firstly, if you have have the opportunity to take this class, do it! Secondly, don't bother showing up.... unless you didn't buy the textbook. Basically the class consists of her going over an outline that she posts online every night before class, and goes over it word for word....every day! My advice is to just read the chapter in the book and save yourself the hassle of going to class and about 45 minutes! Oh yeah, she's foreign, but if you don't let it bother you it's really not that big a deal! Take this class if you don't ever want to show up for it AND fulfill a GE requirement at the same time!

She was definitely all over the place... I do not recommend taking her. She is painfully boring and doesn't like to answer questions. In fact, she gets offended if you do.

Lina can be very nice but she is not a good teacher. The homework was only graded for completeness and the few quizzes that were given were easy and only a few points. I had taken statistics in high school and yet when it came to the material we learned, I was extremely confused. Her tests are very difficult as well. This was by far the most boring class so try not to take Lina if possible.

DO NOT TAKE CLASS FROM IGNATOVA! first of all she's bulgarian and the language barrier is definately dificult to deal with. second she hates answering questions and is offended when you ask them. third she is never in her office when her "office hours" are and then she lies about it later when you ask her why she wasn't there. but the worst thing about her is her tests- RIDICULOUS. one question can be worth 8 points, so you get 2 wrong and there goes your A. i studied my butt off for one of those exams and i got a total of 4 problems wrong and got a D. its awful. on top of all that she gives pop quizzes that are impossibly difficult. when you get them its like she never taught you anything that was on them. she is by far the worst teacher i have ever had.

GREAT STATS teacher. I don't agree with the above comments... Lina was very kind and helpful when I went to her office hours. Yes, she does make up a few words and has an accent, but who cares. Her class was really easy for the most part and she cared about her students. Her grading on tests could be a little harsh sometimes, but besides that she was very good and made stats easy.

Overall I would recommend this teacher, but only if you took stats in high school or you can teach yourself well. All of her midterms, quizzes, and the final are open book/open note which makes the class extremely easy. I probably spent 10 hours tops outside of this class and i got an A. Homework is easy and the naswers are in the back of the book. Grading is based on class rank, not overall percentage (ex- top 12% of students get A's)

Lina Ignatova, although she obviously knows stats, is a horrible stats teacer. I ususally never write these rating things, but I felt compelled to do it for her! It's sometimes hard to understand her because she's from Bulgaria. If you have her in a class that's 2 hours, she lectures for the first half which can be confusing for the tests because she presents new information. When I took her class there was no clock in the room, and durring tests she would never give us a "30 more minutes" cue. The least we got from her was. . . "Ok guys only seven more mintues" when literally more than half the class was only half way done. She takes time into account for her tests, so even if you know the knowledge and have good notes, you better be able to recall them in an instant correctly because you could get most of the test right, and then be rushed on the last few pages which could account for an intense amount of your grade. My advise--don't take her! If at all possible try to find someone else!!

I would have to say that Dr. Ignatova was an average teacher. Homework is extremely easy and the answers are in the back and you usually have like an entire week to do it. I got a C in this class for one reason, I didn\'t sit on my ego and take the time to truly understand the coursework until finals week. I received AP credit for Calculus in high school so math wise this class was really a synch, but I always assumed that the material was just way easy and didn\'t deserve that much of my time to study. I was wrong obviously but as long as you do the homework and clarify any questions you have with her, you should be fine. I STRONGLY RECOMMEND YOU TO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS AT 7 AM!!! I had the 7 am class for two hours twice a week and it was torture. Her thick Bulgarian accent, deathly early class, and monotone voice mix for a perfect recipe for sleeping in class. You really don\'t need to show up to class because one of my friends got an A and showed up like 4 times the whole quarter and I showed up almost every day and got a C. One final thing, on the first midterm like an idiot I slept through my alarm and didn\'t show up for the test. I emailed her and explained myself and she let me come in the next day with her other class to take it. WOW talk about relief I would\'ve failed the class with a zero on my first midterm if it weren\'t for her kindness and generosity. She is a very kind woman and she is not bad at all, just take her class after 9 AM and you\'re gravy!

Do not take STATS with her! She make intimidates you to the point where you don\'t want to answer questions and then she yells at everyone for not asking questions. She is not helpful at all and basically expects you to understand everything without explaining it. She moves really quickly and her midterms are pretty hard, but the good thing is she does let you use a cheat sheet. I would recommend taking this class with any other teacher.

she obviously has a knowledge for the subject, however thats the only complement i will be giving her. after trying to explain a concept and looking at all the puzzled faces, she utters "does dis make sense?" i shook my head every time. she has like one office hour a week, and her grader wreaked havoc on the homeworks. take it with someone else or dont take it at all

This class is probably one of the most pointless classes you will ever go to. The only problem with not going to class is that you may miss a few of the random quizzes. I only went to 1 out of the 4 quizzes but still pulled out a B. Anytime I went to class, she would just repeat about half of the day before's lecture and spend the rest of the time teaching you what you needed to know to do the homework that was due 2 days before she teaches it. Don't go to this class or you will want to shoot yourself.

Ok, so the course material is fairly simple. The lectures are fairly clear. Where she fails is her ability in dealing with students. The class is extremely boring, she sucks at answering students questions, she seems to have favorites in her class, and her grader sucks. She will take off points for the most random of things. Even if you get the question completely right, and write a fair conclusion, she will find something to nitpick and take points off for not being thorough enough. The only way I can see her giving 100% on an exam is if one were to write almost a page essay to cover the conclusion, despite the conclusion being simple. Don't take this course with her.

WORST TEACHER AT CAL POLY. Run far away. She knows statistics, just does not know how to teach... at all. She is Bulgarian with a heavy accent. She always says 'dis' and makes up words, she even makes up letters when she writes. If you have to take her make sure you already have taken stats in the past and did well in it. If not get a tutor. Have fun and good luck... you're gonna need it.

Run far away!!! She was horrible at teaching and doesn't like when students ask her questions because she can't answer them. She confuses herself and says it is because she is standing too close to the board? WORST STATS TEACHER EVER!!!

do everything you can to not get her! first of all she doesnt speak english well so she is always contradicting herself and never understands what you are asking and cant explain anything so it makes sense. she is the most picky grader ever! on tests and homework it doesnt matter if you have the right answer or not she will give you a low grade if you dont write it exactly how she wants it. the only reason i got a b is because i have taken stats before, everyone else who has not taken stats was lost the entire quarter

Lina Ignatova is quite possibly the most terrible teacher ever. Her lectures are agonizingly boring, the homework is bull****, and the tests are bogus. Lina is from Bulgaria, so she has a thick accent. Her lack of knowledge of the English language only compounds this problem. So, when you finally do figure out what she said, you\'ll realize it doesn\'t make much sense at all. The homework for the class is due once a week on average. It\'s quite a good bit of homework if you expect to get full credit because in all seriousness she grades the homework harder than the test. I got marked off for not including one graph in one of my homeworks when there were already at least 15 other useless graphs. This leads me to my next point: she will always ask you to include a shat-ton of useless information in your homework. One of my reports was 10 pages long because i had so many Minitab graphs that we had to include for some reason. The tests, on the other hand, are usually straight plug-and-chug formula questions. You get to write all the formulas on the bluebook before you take your test, so essentially you have an answer sheet to the test. On the first midterm i got a 99% without studying one bit. Several people just in my class got 100% and more than half got an A on the midterm. Before the final, my test average was higher than my homework average (thats fine with me lol). If your main goal is to learn nothing but formulas, then this class is just excellent.

I think the hate for this professor is kind of uncalled for. For one, she\'s pretty hot, and I think a lot of us dudes would bang her. Hell, I think some chicks would dyke out with her. That, and she really isn\'t THAT terrible of a teacher...she fumbles with words a bit, but in the end, she can convey the material pretty reasonably. Going to class everyday and filling out her notes helps a ton, especially since the manner in which she progresses builds upon previous ideas. It seems like she is very shy, which I guess is where the hate comes from. She always has a smile on her face though, and is extremely nice. She\'s also quite helpful in office hours. Plus, if you somehow miss something or forget to turn something in, if you be truthful and explain your situation, she\'ll probably let you still do whatever for full credit. So in summary, she isn\'t the absolute best teacher, but she is far far FAR from the worst.

First of all, I do not agree with all the reviews here. While she is not the best teacher at Cal Poly, she is by far NOT the worst! I enjoyed her lectures and was able to learn from her class notes and exercises. While statistics is not everyone’s favorite class, she did her best to keep the students engaged. If questions arose, she did her best to go over the topic until the question was answered. If you have questions and need help, she will do her best to help you understand; which is more than I can say for many professors at Cal Poly! Her midterms are tough, but mostly because of limited time. The final was not as bad since the time pressure was not there. I think overall she was very fair in grading exams. If you put good effort into this class, you will do fine!

This woman has made stats very understandable. I loathed the idea of taking this class again after having the horrible Kent Smith. Lina\'s teaching style will work best for those that like things laid out in mathematical terms. ALL the information on her lectures and the homework assignments directly relate to the material that she thinks is crucial to know(ON THE TEST). Lina also really extended her hand to me when I found out my father had terminal cancer mid quarter. She allowed me to reschedule my test dates so I could visit my father( this is unlike another teacher that same quarter). I will continue to recommend Lina to everyone.

She was horrible. She sucks at teaching, multiple days she would give the same lecture because she was horribly unorganized, and she actually lost assignments. She even almost kept me from moving on to the next class. Cal Poly, please hire professors that are worth our time and your reputation. And if you didn\'t get it, shes one to avoid.
