I really enjoyed this class and know autoCAD very well now. I had never used autoCAD before this, but I ended up really liking it. When he gives you assignments to draw, he does not provide step by step instructions like some professors. This is actually beneficial because you end up needing to experiment and "learn by doing." In the end, you learn how to use autoCAD much better compared to just reading off instructions from a page. He is a very nice guy and always willing to help.

He's an extremely nice guy but as a teacher, I couldn't follow what he taught. I have never taken CAD before so I was always lost and asking for help. The class was a real struggle. We never had homework because all assignments were due at the end of class.

The class was fairly straightforward. He would lecture for the first hour or so and teach you a new tool in auto cad, and the rest of the time would be given to recreate a diagram he gives you. The assignment contribute the most to your grade, which makes sense considering that the class is based on how well you learn and use the tools of the program on a regular basis. I did find his personality rather dry and at times boring, but he is a genuinely nice guy! Overall I would recommend him to anyone.

Daniel See is one of the best professors I have had to date. His passion for the topics taught in class is evident in the fact that he actually works in the field (he works for CalTrans). In other words, he knows what he's talking about and well teach you CAD well because he actually uses it in practice. His teaching style taught me CAD from the ground up because what he does is show the skill learned for the day at the beginning of class, then lets you loose to do the assignments while he is walking around answering questions. I really like how when you ask him a question, he doesn't answer it directly but rather guides you in the right direction so you can figure it out yourself. It was frustrating at times, but in the end I am glad he did this because I think it helped me learn and remember the skills better. Daniel See grades your work very fairly. He has a grader, but he goes over the work to make sure that it was graded correctly and on several occasions changed the grade the grader gave me a point or two up. In other words, he is not nit picky, pretentious, and condescending like most of the teachers at Cal Poly. If you follow the directions and make your drawings look like the handouts you will get a good grade, and if not you won't. I have personally had a few assignments that did not get the best grade, but that is because they clearly did not match the handout and I knew I had it coming. There is no homework, although as the drawings get a little more intense toward the end of the quarter, you may have to go in for a couple hours here and there outside of class. The workload was pretty light throughout the quarter, except as I mentioned toward the end you may need to come n because the drawings get a little harder and more time-consuming. There is also a portfolio and small group presentation (on a fun CAD topic of your choice) due at the end, but class time was given to work on those. There were two tests, a midterm and a final. Both were in-class and drawing based. There is really no way to study, but as long as you actually do the assignments, you will be fine. The only reason I could think of to not take his class is because it is held from 6-9pm (after Professor See gets off work from CalTrans). However, it is only twice a week and it doesn't interfere with other classes so I think it was well worth having a bad time to have such a great professor. Overall, excellent professor and excellent class. Highly recommend.

Nice and competent guy but he did not make lectures relevant to his assignments.

Daniel See clearly knows his AutoCAD, and usually is able to teach it very well, besides the few times he goes a little fast. He has issues helping you if you have a problem, often trying to get you to figure it out on your own with hints, but that doesn't always work. Nice guy, fair grader, boring class but not much you can do about that.

Danny is pretty cool. He realizes the lecture component of CE 114 is a general waste of time, so he makes the most of the lab. He really knows his AutoCAD. The labs are not hard, but take time just to follow the instructions. The assignments from Danny are a lot more helpful than the labs in the book.

While this was See’s first time teaching the subject, his knowledge was evident but his ability to convey information was lacking. Especially on final preparation, his review sessions did not match the final. Nice guy though, and understanding of class conflicts.
