Yeah... to be short, this guy is a bad lecturer. Terribly organized lectures, uses powerpoint stolen from another university. He is helpful in office hours, which is much more helpful than lecture. Pretty much the best thing about this guy is his sense of style... smashing baby! yeah! heven't taken the common final yet, will fill you in on it when I do.

Get out of his class while you still can!

Professor Mitra was the man. Sure, he may get a little confused at times when people bombard him with questions that aren't exactly necessary, but he does know what he's talking about. His accent is not bad at all, actually it's pretty entertaining. I'll always remember him saying "pure garbage" a lot. He's very willing to help in office hours and is helpful.

I'm not sure exactly why the other few reviewers found him so bad. I think he's a great professor, expecially coming from Kasper's 204 class. I learned very little in 204 because nothing was explained. Mitra explains everything very clearly, and will stay on a subject as long as it takes for us to understand (as long as students are willing to ask questions). Very approachable at all times and is more than willing to stay after class and answer any questions you have. He is INCREDIBLY knowledgable about civil engineering and especially mechanics and structures. Go to his class and pay attention and you will get a good grade. Also, do the homework and don't half ass it. If you do it all and understand it, you will do great on the quizes he gives. And his accent is not a problem at all. I have had many professors who have FAR worse accents.

Mitra is a smart guy, a nice guy, but not a good professor. First off he is lazy, or just decides not to put a lot of effort into teaching, or something. - His powerpoints are virtually unreadable, and obviously not his own - He doesn't get back homework and quizes literally for months - His homework solutions don't follow his own directions so aren't particularly helpful. He would probably get about 40-50% if he turned in his own solutions. Oh also he scans them with some sort of shitty scanner from the 80's or something, so they are nearly unreadable. - He doesn't come to class prepared with example problems. He makes them up as he goes along, meaning they generally turn out way easier than the homework problems. He also has a really strange grading/test setup. We had no homework/quizes/anything for the first 3-4 weeks or so. Then we started getting often-weekly homework assignments. Around week 5 we had our first quiz, then another week 7. Now (week 9) we are having our midterm (which covers everything, so we actually just have two finals...). Homework 15% Quizzes 15% Midterm 25% Final (common, thank god) 45% He isn't so hot at understanding student questions either. And by that I mean he is terrible at it. He assumes people know what are probably obvious things to an engineering professor, but aren't for the rest of us. i.e. he started talking about torsional springs without explaining what they were. A student asked, and he literally spent 10+ minutes trying to explain, and eventually just giving up. (A torsional spring is just a spring that creates a moment instead of a force) I feel bad writing this, because I really do like the guy. He's nice, and he does try in class. He's not awful, but I wouldn't recommend him.

Professor Mitra is good. At first he is difficult to understand, but after two lectures it is easy to see what he is talking about if you give it a chance. For me, Mitra presented the material that made a lot of sense and really helped me get the idea. He is also helpful in office hours.

Why an F?? Because somehow you didnt fit into the two curves of the class. Sorry but I had a 18 percent going into the final. And I am sure you couldnt have done much better or you wouldnt be bitching. Yea I got 2 zeros and a couple points on the last quiz and failed the midterm. I did decent on the final, because I did what Mitra said and kick ass for the final cause that will be most likly our grade. Mitra did not screw us over, he simply felt that was the best way to ready us for the final. You got an F and the other bitches who are writing these emails screwing over the kids who passes need to sack up and take it again. "Mastery of the material" Fuck off, change majors LOSER!!

I wish I'd known about this 'all-or-nothing' faggotry before going into the course. If you are going to take this course, WARNING: THE FINAL IS MULTIPLE CHOICE, AND IT IS WORTH OVER 9000% OF YOUR GRADE. IF YOU HAVE TROUBLE WITH TESTS, YOU WILL BE SCREWED. I also loved how right after giving us the course evaluation questionaire, Mitra says that it's his last quarter at Poly, so the evaluations don't mean a damn thing. To sum up, THIS CLASS WAS A HUGE LOAD OF FAGGOTRY.

I know Mitra won't be here anymore, but I thought I'd throw this out anyways as a helpful hint to any future CE207 students. As you may have heard, the CE department has decided it would be for the best to have an 'all-or-nothing' grading scale for the finals. Well, Mitra took this one step further and used this scale for our entire class grade. Needless to say, many students have failed. Mitra didn't help this situation by deciding to grade all our quizzes and the midterm with this all-or-nothing policy. To sum up, hopefully the department thinks about its policy enough to realize its unfairness. Perhaps this review will help to serve as a record of the insanity that this class has caused. Mitra was ok, but in a larger sense, the department has made this class way more difficult than it needs to be.

Calling Mitra lazy would be an understatement, he is several steps beyond lazy and makes no effort to hide it. This guy spent more time yelling at people for wearing flip flops than explaining the labs. Typically he would disappear to his office about half way through each lab, and when he was around he would be reading the newspaper or talking on his cell phone. The directions he provided for the labs were never current and often called for supplies or equipment the concrete lab no longer had, but he was never around to address these problems, so we had to BS half of each lab report. He never returned a single assignment for this class. Every lecture was done with the textbook in hand, and consisted of him writing the headings on the board and then skimming through the text. Mitra might be a nice guy but so what. This guy wasted the time, energy and effort of everyone who took him for 259, and he knows it, but he still doesn't care. This is the mark of a bad teacher folks, for christs sake take someone else.

Missed the first day, went to the second day. Went to the midterm. Went to the Final. Three days of class total. I got a B, easy. This kind of shit gives our school a bad name.
