She knows her information but she is an Italian woman. Therefore she can come off as being rude and can seem like she is talking down to you, but she's european. So get over it. Unfortunately, 181 combines all three Adobe CS programs, Illustrator, Photoshop, and Indesign. You can learn the VERY basics of each program but it will go fast and if you don't know the programs, it'll be a frustrating ride. She does grade fairly.

WORST TEACHER I'VE EVER HAD! Being Italian is not an excuse to be a bitch in my opinion!

Enrica is much nicer than people claim. I had her for 182 for 6 hours on Fridays, but despite the length of the class I enjoyed it. I knew NOTHING about Photoshop before I took this class, and by the end of the quarter I had learned so much and it stuck with me! Her exercises and the final were lots of fun, helpful and easy to learn. The only way to possibly get on her bad side is if you don't go to class or don't even try to make your projects look nice. Her Italian accent is pretty thick and she's a fast talker, but don't be afraid to ask her to slow down or repeat something; she'll be more than happy to!

The most terrible and unhelpful professor I have ever had. She gets mad at us when we don't ask questions, and once we start asking questions, she starts yelling at us and asking us why we don't listen. She is a terrible teacher. She is extremely unclear about what she wants. I took this class as a concentration class for my major (I am not an Art major) and it was the worst decision in my college career. She loses assignments and immediately blames us. She is inconsistent in her grading, as well as very rude. For some reason she thinks very highly of herself and if you ever feel like she made a mistake, she will make it seem like you are questioning/judging her as a person. She takes anything like that very personally but she has no problem being a huge bitch to everyone. I feel really bad for all Art majors because they have to take this class, but if this class is an option for you, then I advise you to avoid this professor at all costs.

Being European is not excuse to be rude. She cannot teach. Just because she blabs nonstop about material and pridefully injects her own life stories into them doesn't mean she's doing any teaching. She makes it seem like she's accusing you of everything and always tries to pity herself. She's never clear about assignments and material and cannot do math when she's taking points off your quiz. She touches on the basics of everything and barely any content is covered. The final "quiz" was basically having us write out and explain every topic we learned. She talks to us in a demeaning way although she might not mean it and you can't tell if she's being sarcastic or not. She plays favorites, but her favorite person is herself. Avoid this professor.

Enrica Lovaglio is the absolute worst teacher I have ever had at Cal Poly. Not only does she not know how to teach the material, but she is completely unfair in her grading. You could go to Enrica's office hours and she would tell you exactly what she wants out of your project and then turn around and fail you when you turn it in. She has no grading rubric so the grades you receive are just whatever she thinks you deserve. Her tests are usually written responses and if she feels one question is more important than the others she will actually subtract from the number you got right if you answer it incorrectly. Enrica needs to be fired from the Art department. I'm seriously considering dropping my Photography minor just because I can't fathom taking another class with her.

What a bunch of babies these other reviewer are! This is college! I thought she was an excellent teacher, albeit challenging. I had to work hard to keep up but I learned the software and design. I think she has a great heart and really cares about this department, teaching and her students.

Enrica is a fast-paced, fiery professor who is not afraid to tell you that your work is trash. So don't turn in trash. If you work hard, soak up the knowledge and participate a little, it's hard not to get an A.

All I have to say is... FML. And I don't use that phrase very often. I'm surprised I even got a B. Honestly, I had to teach myself everything in Illustrator because she would talk way too fast and expected us to already know everything. When asked to explain in more detail, she would merely repeat what she had said before really fast, and then do it for you and expect you to get it. Which obviously doesn't work. I don't think i know anyone that likes her. So beware. AVOID AT ALL COSTS.

I can't believe Enrica has such low ratings! I loved her! People say she is mean, but they are confusing blunt honesty with rudeness - she tells you how it is, and that's GOOD, you don't want a teacher telling you all your work is perfect when, really, it won't be accepted out in the real world. We learn by making mistakes and correcting them to improve our skills, and that's exactly what Enrica helps with. People also say she is very fast and not very understandable, but if you just ask her to slow down or to explain something again she is happy to do so. However, i think the pace was fine, its a lot of work (but not as much as ART 105, 209, or 211 if you've taken any of those - and NO READING!), but you get what you are paying for and leave the class much more knowledgeable and with some great work that is portfolio worthy.

Enrica is a unique soul who you will grow to appreciate and respect if you enter her class with an open mind. This woman is always mentioning her Italian nationality, and it is not ignored, especially since she attributes her fast speech style to being from Italy. Get ready to scribble random fact notes really quickly to keep up with her no-book, no-reading class for Illustrator. I came in knowing nothing about the program, and I have to say i learned way more in her class about Illustrator AND photoshop than i did in my photoshop class alone. Listen to her feedback and follow it, assuming you want to get a good grade from the person critiquing your work. Super hands-on, active individual who will take personal time out of her life to help you, even if it entails binding a book after-hours with you.

Wow, what a bitch. She clearly knows the subject, but she was not meant to be a professor, because she has no idea how to teach. She's irritable, fast paced, and totally inflexible. 184 is supposed to be an entry level class, and instead of teaching us how to use the program, she just vaguely explained the assignment, and then sat at the computer for the remaining 3 hours while we struggled. The only reason I passed this class was thanks to Lynda.com.

Before you write me off as bitter for getting a low grade, I'd like to say that I do feel I deserved what I got in the class because after a while, I got disheartened and I wound up not turning in a lot of the assignments. BUT... I'll also have you know that for at least the first half of the class, I really did honestly try. I came to the class with absolutely no prior knowledge of HTML or CSS or any of that, and I did not feel that her fast-paced teaching style was conducive to my learning. She did not stop or slow down for those of us (and there were many) who were less familiar with the programs, and she was unfriendly and impatient when I tried to get help from her when I went to her personally. When it came time to make a last ditch effort to pull a final project out of my ass so that I would still at least pass the class, it was up to me to teach myself how to make a functioning website (and I have to say I learned more in those rushed, sleepless couple of days than I did from an entire quarter with her).

Enrica does not teach current web standards. The methods she is teaching are EXTREMELY outdated, and are laughed at in the web community. She teaches HTML with tables, barely referencing CSS. More time is spent animating a gif than is spent learning about divs. This class was probably a hit from 1991 - 1992, but today everything she teaches is useless. I came in confident in my web design knowledge, and came out confused, bewildered, disheartened, yelled at, scared, and upset. Enrica gets furious if you don\'t understand something, and HATES explaining things twice. I currently work at a web firm, and did not learn A SINGLE VALUABLE THING in that class. I sat in the back and had to teach myself. Avoid at all costs, and complain to the current dept. head! She makes over $80,000 a year!!
