Overall he is a cool guy. His assignments weren't that hard. He kind of has his strange moments though. The essays got extremely tedious though, you definitely write a lot, but then again it is a writing class. I would take him again if I could though. He was pretty down to earth

He's a great guy and a good professor, made English actually not boring. His assignments were fun to do and we usually read more normal things, like Stephen King and watched some movies, he kept the class fresh... and always tried to help you in your writing as much as possible.

Carson was amazing. Once I called him Professor Medley and he was like, "Dude, call me 'Carson'" haha You have to write a lot in his class but he grades easy. Just don't wait to write your shit at the last minute. I seriosuly recommend taking him! He inspired me to pursue an English minor!

This guy is a joke. His class was stupid, we watched irrelevant movies half the time. He gives in class quizzes weekly, but no one ever does the assigned readings so he doesnt know what to do and ends up just tossing the quizzes without grading them. THe tests are super easy and the you get full credit on all your writing assignments as long as you turn them in on time. I slept through half his classes and still pulled an A-. Take this guy for 134 if you can, it will make your quarter a lot easier.

Whatever you do, homes, don't take this guy if you wanna easy grade. You foolios be talking about hie easy grading and all. Man, that dude had me sweating like bullets all Q. Funny dude, though, and all hip. The ladies swarm around him and the dudes wanna be like him and all. Great assignments. Dude loves film and music and making connections. The cat knows how to dress, too. You can tell he was a playa back in the the day. Peace out to Carson. He the smartest man on campus and knows it, too, but don't think it's gonna be easy, cheezy.

Medley was a cool professor. He made the class very interesting. While we never had a test in the class there was alot of writing in the class. I think we had four main paper (4-5 pages) and eight or so small ones (half a page-1 page). We read three books in his class and discussed what we read everyday. It really helps if you read the stuff and contribute to the discussion, he seems to help out the students that contribute alot. This was seen when he graded papers. Sometimes he wouldn't be clear with the paper requirments, but if you went to his office hours or sent him an email he was always willing to help. He was a good professor and made the stuff interesting. Oh yeah, he is from the south and he has a really interesting accent, he tries to make relevance to current things, but sometimes it just doesn't work out. If you have an chance to take him, do it. The work load is not that bad and discussions are interesting.

Medley was the best english teacher I have ever had. I definitely recommend him to everyone. He gives you great advice at his office hours and his humorous personality makes it so his class is never boring. Take this teacher if you have the chance to!

First things first. Thank God there is a professor at Cal Poly who understands that there is more to life then ten-gallon hats, Wrangler jeans, and cowboy boots. I guess what I'm trying to say is that Medley understands how to dress with style, unlike every other professor I've ever had here. As far as the class goes, awesome. He does not care so much about grades as he does making the class intellectually stimulating. Class discussions are fantastic, but if you don't like talking about controversial issues, take someone else. Plus, there's hella writing in this class, and tons of reading, but it's all really cool stuff. This guy should be at an Ivy league or something. He also writes screenplays and novels. Oh, and he is freaking cute and not some crusy old dude or dusty woman. Take this class. You want regret it.

Carson is awesome. He pretty much lets you write about whatever you want as long as you can write it well, and back up your opinions. I really wish I could take more classes like this where you are given total freedom in your writing, and everything is uncensored as long as you can back up what you're saying and not just act like some immature 12 year old.

I don't know where all this love for Professor Medley is coming from because even though he lets students rewrite papers it doesn't really matter if the first grade he gives you is a D. He has a lot of energy and is open minded, but is really into the movies and books and music and stuff so if you don't like those things stay away from him. Overall I think he is a pimp daddy and a really good teacher even though sometimes he gets too passionate about writing but he writes books so I guess thats what writer people are supposed to do. I'd take him but I'd like to know where all these A grades are coming from. Peace out.

Medley is dope. An emerging writer teaching at Cal Poly. If any of you who read his book you'll see that he could roll with it and get big real soon. Sounds lame but he really stimulated me intellectually and the revisions for the essays helped me find the flaws in my own writing. I barely skueked out a B, but then again I rarely read the books and stories, but I revied my essays and took them into office hours before I turned them in, so that the final was pristine!! Take him, I have no regrets.

I am an engineering major who has hated english class since the day I was born but Medley was awesome. I loved going to class and my writing really improved because of it. After 4 quarters at Poly, Medley's ENGL 134 class still stands as my favorite. Take him! There's a reason his classes fill up fast!

I took Carson Medley as a freshman in 2005. As his ratings show, he's still a great teacher. I loved his class. I came in with a strong English background, but left with an even better knack for writing. His class was fun and is more important than you would believe. I'm glad Medley's getting love on PolyRatings. Take him. Carson- the guy who turned me on to Entourage- Medley: legit teacher. Take a priority to get him!

Carson is one of the coolest teachers I\'ve ever had. I got blocked into his class for my first quarter, and he was the best teacher I had. The guy is super down to earth, and really wants to help you do well. His classes never fill the 2 hour period, but he always stays to help you for as long as you want. This was the only English class that I\'ve ever wanted to go to. It\'s not an easy class to get an A in, but definitely a great way to boost up your English skills and get a good grade with a sick teacher.

Great teacher, explain everything very well. He is very enthused about english and will take time to get your essay to an A paper. I always dozed off during class and he still gave me full credit for participation. Too bad he is getting laid off next quarter, but if he ever comes back take him!

Easily my favorite teacher ever, he was awesome. If I ever have the chance to take him again i will go out of my way to get him. He really helped my writing and is a very fair grader. If you are unhappy with a grade on a paper, you can revise it and get points back. He is one of the funniest teachers ever, however i can see how he could offend some people. He uses very adult language but extremely funny. Overall amazing

Medley.. Medley... Medley... HE IS AWESOME! Hands down best english teacher ever. Totally chill and laid back. You never stay the full 2 hours of class, he wants to get out of there just as fast as you do. Only 4 essays, no midterm, no in class final, no quizzes. And his personality just tops it off.. makes class go by fast, he\'s hilarious. TAKE HIM.. you won\'t regret it!

Two important tips you should know about the Carson's English 134: First, have an open mind on the quality of your work, and actually give thought to the editing process that he lectures. Second, take the course if you want to learn how to write through your own experience rather than a teacher telling you how exactly something should be written. "Stop yaw bleedin'" and "Be a Syntax Cheetah".. Carson is real. Carson is raw. Carson is unrefined. The first essay reads, "re-write". Two official drafts later I was awarded an 'A'. The second essay comprises of an interview with an employee of a "thankless job". The choice is yours and anything goes.. Again, his class regards to the editing process, so keep that in mind. To deter from boredom, and to simply wrap-up the rest of the course: the run down of Medley's 134 course. Write. EDIT. Write again. EDIT. Write once more. Turn in. P.S: Class will be cancelled often.

This guy, though easily distracted, is one of my favorite professors at Cal Poly. He knows how to keep the class engaged and his theories are extremely interesting. The course load was light as we only read two books and wrote three essays, but I still came away from the class a more confident writer.

This teacher is amazing. You have to write 4 essays but he is willing to help along the way. he also gives you a lot of time. If you turn in a paper and are unahppy with your grade, you can re-write it as many times as you want until you achieve the desired grade. He's an amazing person and you can go into office hours just to chat if you are bored. You read pretty good books including Fight Club, On Bullshit and Mexifornia. You have to read from this stupid Good Reasons book but if you are lucky he won't give you a midterm and you can write a short 3-4 page paper instead. All in all, great teacher, hilarious and very funny. I took him at 7 am and he actually kept me awake most mornings.

First of all, I've never been a huge fan of English. I've always ended up with subjective teachers that told me my opinions were wrong. Carson completely changed my mind and this has been my favorite class at Poly so far. There were 3 big essays (rhetorical analysis on an advertisement, fight club paper, and theory paper) and a bunch of small ones that were done basically on a credit/no credit basis. He appreciated humor and was very open minded about any opinions I wrote about, as long as I backed them up properly. We also got to write a shorter paper about Pulp Fiction, which was interesting. The midterm was take home rhetorical analysis about television commercials and the final was a paper/presentation about your own personal theory. This class was a blast to go to, especially when you participate. Carson kept me laughing all quarter and I would definitely reccommend him for any class!

This was a really good English 145 class. My friends recommeded Medley to me and I am very glad I took the class. At times I felt the work load was way too much and he graded too hard, but in the end, there was plenty of time to finish everything. He was helpful in office hours, and as long as you don't slack off too badly, you can do well. If you are looking for a easy class to fill this A3, I would not recommend taking Medley. It's not that hard, but you definitely have to put a lot of effort into this class, which really annoyed me at times, but like I said, it all worked out in the end and I got an A, so I was happy. You read good books and class is just an interesting discussion. He likes it if you speak up, but won't call you out if you are quiet.

Medley made a very interesting course, based on novels like Fight Club, Choke, and Sex, Drugs, and Cocoa Puffs. Basically each class was a discussion on really interesting and controversial topics. He is a very mellow and cool professor who likes to hear what his students have to say. His assignments included a few 1 page responses to Sex, Drugs, and Cocoa Puffs, two 4-6 page essays, and a final 10 page research paper. He grades fairly and allows infinite revisions on the two normal essays.

Medley is awesome. The class is basically a discussion about the books you read and the issues surrounding them. He is so understanding and willing to help you out be it revising an essay or giving you an extension. He lets you rewrite essays as many times as you want for more points. Be open minded if you take his class though, the subject matter of the books he assigns can be very raw and he really likes to drop f-bombs.

OK, medley, medley, medly. He\'s not extremely knowledgeable about the books..or so it seems. He often digresses from the lectures and reviewing the book and, honestly, taking the class, I really didn\'t learn anything new. (Maybe just a new figure of speech that i had forgotten about since high school, which he had a random quiz on...) BUT BUT BUT As a guy, he is SO cool. I personally do not base a class on how knowledgeable the professor is, unless it\'s a subject like Calculus, etc. SO, the CLASS is great. Fun, not challenging, and he\'s so down to earth--just as any college student would dream for their professor to be--so he\'s approachable and you are able to write essays over to obtain a higher grade. This is why i LOVED the class. He\'s also not stringent, so any topic is extremely debatable as long as you can prove your point. His open mindedness is what motivates you. Awesome teacher and class.

Even though Carson is a pretty cool guy, his class was so unorganized. After about two weeks he finally made a syllabus for the quarter, even though he didn\'t abide by it at all. His class is nothing like other ENGL 145 classes; we didn\'t have a textbook or memorize terms or learn about the theory of argument, we read Fight Club and Great Gatsby and the class focused those. It was nice having our English class center on literary pieces, and we saw them in new lights. But all three essays we had to write for that class (one 2 pages, one 6 pages, one 10 pages), were in the last three weeks of class, which made it REALLY difficult to cram them all in. Plus, we didn\'t have our grades on them to know how to write the others. All in all, he was okay. Definitely not your standard class.

Medley may be my favorite professor so far at Cal Poly. I took this last Spring as a freshman, and it was very enjoyable. All we did was read two books (Fight Club and The Great Gatsby), write two short essays on them, and then a long research paper. I don't think we turned the first paper in until 7 weeks in, as he was SUPER lenient and an all-around cool guy. Don't have your paper done? Turn it in next week. So yeah, he's not very organized, and all you do is talk about random stuff every day, but it's a lot of fun. If you want to have a very serious and busy English class (which I doubt you do as a GE), then he may not be the guy you want.
