Kelly doesnt actually teach how to use the wood and metal shop tools but does assign the final project and grades everything. Kelly extendend the deadline for our final project 1 week because many students were behind, and he is always willing to talk to students even outside of office hours. While I did not think the final project ( a 10" cube thing) was interesting, I do think he is a good teacher. Overall the grading was fairly easy, and there are only 3 projects.

He gives challenging projects (way beyond what a first year would expect to do,)that involves chipboard,form-Z, and the woodshop. Let me put it this way: when the 120s were learning about the color wheel, we were at the woodshop constructing a site for our project. His approach is quite abstract, but he is also reasonably practical and sends you to the woodshop for at least one project every quarter. He assigns a lot of work, but he is not unreasonable. He gives good advice when you are stuck. And he holds a lot of crits for projects. Speak up.
