To the idiot(s) making all the ignorant racist posts: Glad you can demonstrate your verbal and compositional aptitude so well--you truly embody the learn by doing ethic. Have fun taking remedial courses at night school/your community college when you get kicked out of this university, perhaps the experience will serve you well and you'll gain some perspective. Glad to know another douchebag--who I might have had to compete against for jobs--has failed out. Don't let it hit you on the way out . . . :)

Terrible teacher! Stay clear of this teacher if you can. I couldn\'t understand literally half of what he said and his powerpoints didn\'t help very much because they didn\'t have much order either. Only 2 tests in the class and no other way to evaluate what you have learned. Watching a 15 minute video in the class taught me more than 2 full lectures would have.

The lecture portion of the class is held at 07:10, not evening, but in the mornings. The class was always 2/3 filled after the first day. Although he provided the slides in PDF format on BB, but they were useless if you do not go to lecture. Why? Because he left out most, if not all, the important information on the slides on BB. That forced you to go to lecture to take notes. The lecture portion was only 40% of your final grade, so work hard on your lab portion instead. He answered questions in a very sarcastic manner and assumed \"you should know if you have read the slides before-hand.\" Oh, by the way, I am Chinese, too, and I also had a tough time understanding his Engrish. One example: \"Sada John.\" Who is Sada John... no he meant \"Solder Joint\"

On top of the class being at 7am, he can barely speak English. He's very unclear in exactly what material he's presenting. I would stay clear of this professor if you have ANY other choice. I was lost in lectures, I would have failed if I hadn't had an IE in my family to ask for help, hands down.

If you can manage to stay awake through his lecture and understand half of what he says, then this class will be a breeze for you. Just fill out the notes you can print out during lecture and study those for the tests and you will be fine. The tests have pretty easy multiple choice questions straight from the notes. OK teacher, easy class.

If it weren't for the fact that he has random quizzes throughout the quarter, there would be absolutely no point in attending any of his lectures. It's impossible to understand anything he's saying, not just because of his accent but due to his inability to actually explain the material. He goes through his powerpoints (which are all available on Blackboard anyway) pretty much skimming what's on them without giving any real idea about just what certain terms mean that you're going to have to know either for the quizzes or the final. Then some classes he'll just play videos that go over tons of information in a short amount of time and nobody in the room has any idea what he actually wants us to know from the video since his "video review questions" don't always match up with the material in the videos. Basically, avoid taking this professor. Aside from all of this he's rude to his students and occasionally tries to criminalize and scare us by talking about cheating and ranting about people redistributing his notes for profit or something. If there's a different lecturer, take him/her instead no matter what.

At first, I was excited for this class, but I was definitely mistaken. Weekly, we go over PowerPoint lectures that he can only get working half of the time. Within the PowerPoints, there are very broad, vague notes that he tries to explain during the weekly lecture. Unfortunately, if you are an English-speaking American, you will not be able to understand anything the man is saying. I understand he came from China. I understand pronouncing English words may be difficult. But why have a job that requires people to understand you? There are random quizzes, three or four if I recall correctly, but they are only worth 6 points each, and they are very straightforward if you paid attention and know your stuff. Most of the material will fly right over your head if you are like me and have no previous electrical engineering or integrated circuit knowledge. Just learn the information without asking why, and you should be okay. He is pretty rude to his students and really doesn't know how to relate to them. One time after a quiz, a student turned it in 2 minutes late and he flipped out, lectured the student, and gave him a zero. The student probably didn't understand what he was saying anyways...No that student wasn't me. Beware! If there are other options than him for IME 156 Lecture, SIGN UP FOR THAT ONE! I didn't have a choice...here's some hope for the future.

Dr. Pan is an ok professor. His accent can get in the way and his powerpoints are extremely dull. He shows you soldering videos that are from the 60's or 70's. He is nice and somewhat funny at times but he doesn't know how to run a class very well. During labs, he seemed to disappear when people needed him the most and then he suddenly reappear. His grading is the worst. I had a C average on midterms and B+ on my reports, so you tell me how I ended up with a D+ as a final grade??? I did learn a lot but something is way wrong with this professor. If you can take someone else because I really thought i would get a B- or C but a D+...avoid him.

This guy is great. His quizzes, tests, and finals are sooooooo easy. Everyone in my class finished the midterms and final in 10 mins!!! Theres not that much materials to learn in the class. It's all concepts. No math, no logic thinking. Just concepts. And the tests are multiple choice. Maybe a few fill ins and writing but its very easy. The lab for this class is easy as well. Just start early on your project and pick the right project or else you are screwed. Overall, this class is an EASY A. His accent might throw you off but it'll keep you awake in class. ITS HILARIOUS. He might be a little hard to understand but if you fix his grammar then you'll do just fine.

Great teacher and great class! So good I recommend saving IME 157 to your junior-senior year so you can do a harder and cooler project. If not its still a lot of fun, I was a freshman and it was the best course I took all year and Dr. Pan was great.

This guy SUCKS!! I took him for IME 157 and he made the class so much worse than it could be. He's 100% chinese chAnk and has a Phd but still doesn't know how to speak english. He has a really hard time answering questions and laughs at you if you ask a question that he thinks you know already. He wears the same sweater and shirt everyday trying to look professional, it's pretty funny. He doesn't know how to help students and should not be working in the IME department. He should be in EE or some other department...

I really enjoyed this class and if you can't get an A in it, you have a VERY difficult road ahead of you. This class is a lot of fun and Dr. Pan is a great teacher who ties it all together. He demands a level of professionalism from his students that will certainly pay off in the long run. I give Dr. Pan five stars, and definitely recommend the class and professor.

Dr. Pan is a great teacher for this class. He is very knowledgeable about Electronics Manufacturing and enjoys passing his skills to students. The Lecture is very straightforward and informative. The Lab is very cool because you get make two projects. Even if you dont know anything about Electronics Manufacturing Dr. Pan will help you with the Labs. The final project is fun and even if it doesnt work Dr. Pan will grade fairly. He is focused on making sure that students learn something in his class.

Dr. Pan is a great teahcher for this class. He knows the material really well and is able to teach the students. Lecture is straight forward, he gives easy quizzes and counts the highest 2 of your 3 exams. The lab is also a lot fun and is doable even for those with little or no Electronics Manufacturing experience. He will help you with the project if you put in the effort. His main goal for the class is to make sure that you learn about Electronics Manufacturing. Overall its a great class.

This guy is CRAP. I guarantee that all the people on this page giving Pan a good review were part of his suck up students. The ones that are too pussy to correct or question Dr. Pan for any of his mistakes. Trust me, I am not a typical electronics nerd like most of the people taking this course. I know whats up. This class sucks and the professor is totally chank and cant pronounce almost half the words he says during lectures. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. unless you are obsessed with electronics. IT SUCKS BALLS!!

Yes, Dr. Pan has a funny accent, but for a technical class like this you really need someone who can explain things clearly. When people asked questions he was very vague and unhelpful, he\'s still learning english unfortunately. The class is fairly interesting and building your project is fun, but designing your circuit board is extremely tedious and boring. People fail to note that 80 percent of the lab is sitting at a computer designing a circuit board, which is not fun. The fun part of the class, building your project, is only a few days of the class. Overall I would recommend someone else.

I would not recommend. If you mess up one tiny thing on your project and it doesn't turn on, no matter how cool it is you automatically get deducted a full grade. That's what happen to me.

Professor Pan makes this class harder than it needs to be. He expects students to know everything from past stats classes that were taken years ago, and he does not do examples in class that are relevant to solving the homework problems. He can spend up to 30 minutes just talking about a concept on one slide. He expects you to read the book to supplement for his lack of teaching, and I think he could do a much better job at teaching his students what is necessary to succeed in the homework and on his tests. It's almost as if he leaves out vital information on purpose just to make us go spend hours digging for it in the book. Not chill.

For his first time teaching this class, he was fantastic. The class started out a bit rough with the first midterm not going so well, but he asked us for feedback and actually acted on it. By the time the second midterm came around, the entire class was doing great. He can go a bit slowly at times, especially during Excel demos, but he conveys the material well. There's a quiz almost every week, 2 midterms, and 1 final. Homework is graded on correctness, not just completion. The book is pretty trash, but he said he would try changing it next quarter. Overall, take him. This class was incredibly useful.

He does not deserve a low rating. The homework can be challenging, but Pan grades it very fairly. The midterms never go outside of the homework material, so just practice the HW for the midterms (I actually find the HW more challenging than the midterm questions). I got an A (not A-, an actual A) in this class. It's easily doable.

Dr. Pan was a good teacher. He really wanted to make sure that everyone understood the material, taking a survey in class and going over the problems people had from previous stat classes. The final was optional, in case the midterm scores weren't the best. But if you take STAT 312 or 321 the quarter before this class, you won't have a problem. The project is a lot of fun, too.

I was a little nervous going into this class, but it really wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. Pan did a pretty good job at explaining the material despite the subject not being most people's favorite. He's also a really nice guy and cares about how his students are doing in the class. The class consisted of weekly homework assignments (20%), a group project (10%), a midterm (30%), and a final (40%). I recommend going into his office hours for the project so he can tell you if you have to fix anything before you do your research. An easy B if you put a decent amount of effort it, and an A if you put a lot of effort and/or statistics is your thing.

I love Dr. Pan! Honestly one of my favorite professors in the IME department and his ratings being so low actually shocked me. He drops our lowest homework, the tests weren't hard plus he gave out extra credit! The end of the quarter project is really easy and he is so understanding! Just go to office hours and everything will be really clear. Also, he loves statistics and it shows. It was great having a professor that genuinely enjoys the topics that they teach!

Dr. Pan is an amazing teacher and person! He genuinely cares about his students and wants them to succeed. He is a phenomenal speaker, and he is SO clear in class. I asked so many questions in his class and he was super willing to answer all of them. I wasn't really a fan of stats until I took his class. I would absolutely take him again!

Dr. Pan was one of the best IME professors that I've ever had at Cal Poly! His homework, quizzes, and tests are really fair. He doesn't make you feel dumb for not knowing the answers and he genuinely cares about his students. Basically do the work and you'll get a good grade.

Dr. Pan is amazing. He scares you during the first week of this course by saying you need to remember basically everything from Stats, but after the first week, the material is super easy and reasonable. Dr. Pan is really good at explaining it, why it's important, and how to apply it to real problems. Dr. Pan will also spend extra time on topics if he thinks you don't understand it, and will also extend homework deadlines. Be sure to do the homework because it accounts for a large percentage of your grade and it's really good prep for the exams. His tests were very fair and he always gave practice tests that were almost exactly the same as the actual tests. He would also sometimes bring in candy or fruit snacks and toss them to people who answered questions. Definitely my favorite IME professor. Take him if you have the chance!

I have had Dr. Pan for several classes now and he is my favorite professor in the IME Department. His lectures are very clear and he presents material well with lots of examples. His tests follow lecture and homework material well and are very reasonable if you are keeping up in class. His class is not as easy as some other IME classes, but it is very reasonable if you put in the work to succeed. He also makes himself available to students and will help you with your problems. He has clear expectations for the class and the structure is clear.

He is an Ok instructor. His way of teaching the material is not the most exciting. He seemed very unprepared sometimes. His powerpoints are not exciting. He knew the subject. I thought the class was not interactive at all. Sometimes it is hard to get a good answer form him during office hours.

Dr. Pan is a great guy, knows his stuff and is really nice. English is his second language, so sometimes there are small communication issues, but if you have half a brain you'll get past it and realize that he's pretty awesome. 335 lectures tended to be a little boring, but that's probably because i wasn't extremely interested in the subject matter. Labs were fun. Took him for 326 and slept every day because it's the exact same as stats class. But that's the department's fault, not really his. Takes 2/3 best grades between 2 midterms and a final= chill.

Hilariously ironic professor in the sense that he will will be condescending to you on material he actually knows nothing about. This dude will make you want to jump right out the window of Engineering IV head first with his terrible lecturing capabilities, mundane hw assignments, and just overall horrible personality. It's a shame the IME department has him teaching this material because the course actually contains very valuable career information for IEs. If you have to take him my recommendation is to sit in the back, use the textbook, and find your happy place while he spews bullshit.
