Oh Dr. Jacobs. This was the first class I took for my major - REC. This class could not have been more pointless. There was a book. There was an assigned chapter every meeting, but not once did we go over it. He usually told stories, we jump roped, and even went to the gym. he is perhaps one of the most kind hearted people i have ever met. He honestly made my days a bit better, just seeing him. I really wish the material didnt suck so bad, because he is AWESOME! he really makes an attempt at getting to know the kids, and even quizzes you on kids' names on the final!!! :) he also is very personable and understanding if something comes up. He assigned learning partners - basically someone to get to know, to help you branch out in the major, as well as someone to help you. The tests sucked. So hard, for such a ridiculous class. Luckily, open book, as well as three other students to help you. AWESOME! there were four or five pages, all of them HAVING to be under 2 pages. this guy is full of crazy stories, and i promise you will adore him. the class, ah, not so much. easy freaking A though. take it, take him. THANK YOU JACOBS!!!

Jacobs was such a cool professor. He makes a boring class as interesting and fun as he can. The midterm and final were group tests and the assignments were easy. Take professor Jacobs.

I LOVE JACOBS! He is by far the best prof we have in the rec department. Take any and every class offered for major classes taught by him. He is so energetic and personable it makes going to class amazing. I would gladly take him over greenwood or goldenberg ANYDAY! wish i had him for 205, seriously take as many classes as you can with him! He is prone to go off topic and tell stories, but it is worth it.

RPTA 205 is Leadership Facilitation and it is taught my Dr. Jacobs. In lecture we sat in a circle and had discussion about who inspired us and what they did that led us to be inspired. Sometimes to emphasize the point, we would go outside and participate in some hands on learning. An example includes, creating a moral compass out of the class. We had to arrange ourselves into a compass that pointed north and align ourselves as straight as we could. Dr. Jacobs arranges his lectures for students to figure out and process material themselves rather than teach "this is the answer." The lab portion is more hands on activities that help bond the group and build everyones leadership skills. I was really excited that the class paralleled wow training, and the following summer I was working as a camp counselor. After having 205 with Jacobs, I felt very confident in my abilities as a leader. Grades are determined by a combination of req'd assignments and optional assignments. There were 2-3 papers (2.5 pages long) req'd, then the rest of the assignments (also 2.5 pg papers written about a project we did) we could choose from a list of ~10. The entire class was out of 140 points. If you achieved those points through the papers then you didn't have to take the final [which i think was a take home essay]. All but one of the reviews speak correctly of Dr. Jacobs character. He is a phenomenal teacher, and should be taken at least once before you graduate. I definitely encourage non-majors to take this, or any of his courses to gain all that he has to offer in becoming a professional in any field. Hoped this review helped. Best of luck in all future endeavors.

Dr. Jacobs starts off as a funny guy who enjoys his job. But when you really get to know him, you realize why he is teaching in the recreation department and not engineering. He doesn't tailor his lectures towards the students. Also, he hates answering student's questions, he will try and avoid them at all costs. Finally, his grading scale is so wrong. He will only give out a certain number of A's and B's, no matter how well the students are doing. He feels that he shall always meet his quota.

Dr. Jacobs is a good instructor... overall. I read the above rating, and I am not agreeing with that at all. If you utilize lab and ask questions he will help and he is definitely there during office hours to help you out. He is one of the instructors in the department of REC which understands that we have other classes. He teaches this class well and prepares you better for senior project. I don't think there is a quota for him to meet and he "randomly" points his finger on his grade book and says "they are getting a C". You have to do the work, and there is a lot of it towards the middle and end of the quarter. You just have to stay on top of it. In a million years I would rather take it with Jacobs than Greenwood, and thank goodness I took it before she teaches it again.

This instructor is ten year; and thus, will provide very little in helping you learn the class material. If there's any way to avoid him, do it. I'd change my concentration if I ever had to take Jacobs again. He'll provide no feedback, no assistance in office hours, and harsh grading with no justification.
