Professor Mehiel relies on online sources to give his lectures in class which occurs half of the quarter. For the other 5 weeks of the quarter, he brings in guest speakers from on campus resources and former professors from the aerospace department to talk about careers. Throughout the quarter, you will be working on two major projects (gliders and rocket). For each project, you will have to write a lab report with your group which consist of 3-4 people so pick your groups wisely. You will have the same group for both projects. Launch day for the rocket was incredibly fun and amusing. We didn't get to launch our gliders because of the weather.

Dr. Mehiel is a pretty good professor. He brought in people to talk about the aerospace industry and gave a crash course into aerospace. He does a very good job at explaining things even though there weren't very many complicated subjects in 121. He is very personable and I think everyone should go talk to him at the end of class at least once. This is a very good class to get a general idea as to what Aerospace engineering is and whether or not the major is right for you.

Mehiel is a decent professor. His lectures are clear, though not the best. He often mumbles when talking about things that aren't very important, which can get frustrating. His tests and projects are pretty easy, although you can get thrown off since he doesn't give much information on how he grades them. Lastly, he takes FOREVER to get assignments and tests back. Im talking three weeks for the midterm and five weeks for the first project. This was his first quarter teaching, as far as i know, so hopefully he'll improve in those areas where he needs it, but even so, he's still a pretty decent professor.

Mehiel is a decent professor. He's still new, so he'll probably improve with a little more time. His lectures could be more clear and he tends to lecture at the pace of the smarter people in the class. If you're having trouble understanding then speak up and he'll slow down. He's good at helping you if you go to his office hours. The homework isn't bad except for the Matlab projects. If you don't know Matlab you'll probably struggle a little. It's very difficult to learn Matlab without actually learning it in a lab. Hopefully they'll change this in the future.

Mehiel is very good at explaining things clearly. I'd say he's a good, clear lecturer. His tests are fair and so is the homework. But he's just too goddamn lazy. Grading takes forever. He comes to class obviously unprepared and without having gone over the material. That he can still do well is a testament to his ability to present material, but his laziness is unacceptable.

If he actually helped during office hours i wouldnt bash on him. But this guy he is lazy and i swear it takes him 3 weeks to grade themidterms. his grading is unfair and he shouldnt team up with marshall to teach the classes and have same tests. If he was man enough he would write his own tests and have his own grade rubric

Dr. M is an alright teacher, the material in Aero 300 is dense math and he pushes through it pretty quickly. But he simplifies things more than the book and doesn't make the class very difficult. It seems like Dr Mehiel is more focused on running the Aero department, which he should get mad props for. Midterm material was very vague

Dr. Mehiel lectured from a powerpoint most days, the premade slides were usually supplemented with annotations using a tablet. Personally, I would prefer that he write on the whiteboard or write more on the slides. With my learning style, it was harder for me to understand the lecture when he would just put up a completed slide and just let it sit there while he talked. Additionally, he would occasionally move on to the next slide without giving students enough time to finish writing down everything. overall, the slides and textbook were sufficient but could be improved. Dr. Mehiel is very knowledgeable on this subject and clearly posses a deep understanding of the subject matter. This is problematic sometimes as his students are not nearly as familiar with the subject matter so something that is very simple could be extremely complex for the students. When students spoke up about this issue, he was very helpful in answering questions and ensuring that he was able to address the students question or concern before moving on again. Dr. Mehiel was a very fair professor, he assigned a fair bit of homework, but it is a 5 unit class, so it isn't a huge problem. Expect to spend a fair bit of time on labs and homework sets, not Mehiel's fault, he is just trying to prepare you for this class.

300 is a hard class but Miehl is a nice dude. You’ll have to take him if he’s teaching but you’ll survive.

Mehiel was an interesting professor, I'll give him that. Unfortunately, it seemed like he would seriously look at the clock, realize it was 2 minutes til class, and then start walking over to class. On his way over, he would proceed to ask himself: "What should I talk about today?". Short version: incredibly unprepared. He genuinely cared about whether or not we understood the material, however it seems he could have cared more. Because had he cared more, he would have taken the time to plan a lecture more than 3 minutes before he was going to present it. His lectures came across as very scatter brained and disorganized, and rarely accomplished what he was trying to do. Often it would take 3 lectures, 2 homework assignments, and 3 hours in office hours to figure out that you really only needed to plug your equation into Matlab and get your "arbitrary" solutions. Miehiel is a great guy, I'd love to have a beer or 2 or 3 or 10 with him. Unfortunately, his teaching skills leave much to be desired. Honestly, he'd probably be a great graduate professor. However, I think he lacks the ability to convey material to undergrads without assuming we already had taken a few classes in control theory.

Mehiel is a good Professor. The class itself is touch to teach, and the material is tough and will not make sense at times. Overall I'd say I learned a lot this quarter. Give him a B overall.

Mehiel is great at recognizing when students are struggling and always makes adjustments to make the class as fair as possible. The material is very difficult, but I think Mehiel did a very good job of running this class. I also took him for 300 and he did a good job in that too.

Mehiel knows the material. However, he presents the bare minimum and this usually isnt even enough to do the homework. His excuse: if youre confused, come to office hours, but he cancels them often, and this is not a valid reason to shirk on lecture. If you're taking 320 with mehiel, be prepared for a ride the strugglebus for the entire quarter. Also; the material is pretty hard.

Mehiel is the man!! The material is pretty tough and some of the time he is unprepared but overall he cares about the students. The weekly matlab projects sucked but if you ask him he will help you out a lot. I thought I was gonna fail this class because of how much I was struggling on the quizzes but so was everyone else so in the end his curve was as sweet as his world famous math magic. He can also grill a mean cheeseburger

Professor Meheil was well versed in the subject and he genuinely cared about his students. I did learn more about the subject than I anticipated prior to the semester. Thank you.

Mehiel is a homie. He knows it all, he can give a lecture, but sometimes its difficult to follow. That's because the material is really hard. Don't get frustrated and blame it on the man, just do a little extra work and it will click. It's worth it to walk out of SC controls and really get whats going on. Be prepared for the mother of all projects.

Definately a fun class. He makes some mistakes during lecture, but other than that, the lectures were straight forward. The midterm and final were reasonable. The programming projects were very interesting. Just make sure you start on them early. He's very helpful with the projects during office hours.
