Although well-meaning, Prof. Hernandez just couldn't pull it together for this class. Time was spent on inconsequential minutia that's covered in later required EDUC courses (so why waste time now, esp for those who are just testing the waters about becoming teachers?). The real classroom observations are very beneficial, but I don't think that the seminar time should have been spent on big picture discussions but rather observation experiences.

This class was really a joke. The observation hours are always good and you can get alot out of them, but as for the class and the material, BLAH! You only meet once a week, so that is good, but when you are there, nothing really gets done. She has a weird personality, a weird smile and laugh, she always says. "Did you get that?" and i have a feeling that if she ever took off one of those many scarfs she has, her head might fall off. Anyways, the classes that you do in the computer lab are RIDICULOUS. Just a complete waste of time, all busy work. It is an easy class to pass as it is credit/no credit, so you can turn in everything all the way up to finals week. Wish the class was better and actually helped you become a better teacher, but it actually seemed to draw a few people away from the field, which can be helpful if you are not sure you want to go into teaching. I just wish it was a class you actually wanted to attend, but it was not.

If you plan on becoming a teacher and absolutely must take Hernandez for EDUC 430, be prepared to never know what to expect. She is the most disorganized professor I have ever had the pleasure of working with. For example, she lost 18 pages of my case study along with grades to many different assignments done by other students. Never in my life have I taken a class that has caused so much emotional, mental and physical stress. Her grading is inconsistent which gives you a sense that you are failing, which brings me to another point; fairness. She might give you 7 out of 20 points whereas, another person might get 14 out of 20 for the exact same paper. The only thing that she has going for her is that she does know the material and if you grab her on a good day she might sit down to help you. If you have an ulcer already growing in your stomach, take Mulligan instead.

What the guy/gal below said. Amen. I too took this class and have long since graduated from Poly, but I was cruising Poly Ratings for a kick and thought that I should pipe in and let you know how much of a joke this prof is.
