Dr. Pilliod is a great professor! He's new, so he's still very excited about the subject matter, unlike some burned out teachers that have been teaching forever. I had him for lecture and lab, and he's great in both. He'll stay in lab until you have looked at and understand everything, even if it means you're there past the end of the period. He presents the material in a clear, easy to understand way, and will go at the student's pace. He is very approachable, and doesn't make you feel like your question is stupid or out of place. Now, he is fairly new to teaching, so he still has a few kinks to work out, but he fixes his mistakes (for example, he had to trow out 4 questions on one of our midterms). I would take him again in a heartbeat, and I'd recommend him to anyone taking this course.

I had Dr. Pilliod for lecture and lab in 153. He is one of the best teachers I've had. If I had the chance, I'd take another class with him. His lectures were clear and he seemed really into the material. He's fairly young and new to teaching so he's a lot more approachable than most other professors here. He'll stay with you in lab as long as you need him to, and will help you with any questions you have. He's not intimidating in the least and likes to know his students by name, even in huge classes. My advice, take him if you get the chance. You won't regret it.

Dr. Pilliod was an decent teacher. His lectures had a lot of information, so it was hard to understand everything. His tests are hard too...you can't just memorize facts... you must know the stuff.

He taught BIO 153 best of all of the teachers who have taught 153. He makes it clear to understand, provides outlines before hand, give practice test similar to the exam itself and he is always ready to talk in person. He is an awesome Lecture teacher.

Dr. Pilliod is very condescending. He likes to remind the students that he is the one with the Phd, even if it is in ecology. He asigns papers and mentions key details in emails sent the night before they are due. He confuses all of the concepts and figures, explaining them backwards until he realizes it the next lecture. Take frey if you can.

Dr. Pilliod is a nice guy, but thats it. He did not do good job of presenting course material, and every lecture is a PowerPoint presentation. I dont know about you but I think PowerPoint is a lazy mans lecture tool. Also hes terrible to try to catch in office hours because half the time they are cancelled and when they arent cancelled hes late. I wouldnt recommend taking a class with him unless you have to. I honestly dont think he cares about the students, he just does his thing in lecture and thats it.

Do not take Dr. P for ecology, try and take Frey. Dr. P acts as though he is knowledgeable and willing to help you but he is definitely confused. Everyday he would complain that we were late (which was just a few students) and waste our time. He treated us like we were still in high school yet he would grade us like we were grad students. This actual class isnt bad, just boring. It consisted of 1 midterm, an independent paper, group paper and presentation, which isnt too bad of a work load. For the presentations he pretended like we were at an official ecological symposium and acted like a total jerk. He needs a reality check.

Lab was 50% of your grade (40% independent project 10% partisipation) Lecture was 50% ( 20% mindtermI and 30% final). Tests were multiple choice, and essay. All of the multiple choice questions come from the books website online. So definitly do thoes and u will be fine. His lectures are incredibly boring and is all on power point...so theres really no point on going to class.
