I loved her. I totally agree with the recommendation of printing up the blackboard before you go to class...it makes it a lot easier. The map quizzes are easy points, and read the chapters as she is teaching them..leaving them to the last days before the test is not a good idea at all. But, you learn a ton, and the teacher is totally rad for sure.

This teacher really acts like she has no idea what she is talking about. We have two map quizzes and when a student asked where one of the places was on the map she admitted that she didnt know and had to go look it up! Also her classes are all over the place, one minute we were talking about Buddhism the next we were watching a movie on the holocaust. There was no transition or anything, no connection whatsoever. This class is pretty easy though, her tests ask dumb questions that have no bering on the general purpose of the class. She just asks for regurgitation of small, pointless pieces of information randomly thrown out. Also, the book is so pointless, dont buy it! Overall this class sucks, it could just be that the course material is boring, but going to class it torture to sit there for 2 hours. For an easy, boring class this is perfect for you, if you want some mental stimulation, don't bother.

I'm not sure why the last student who evaluated Prof. Streiff was so harsh - I really liked her, and I thought her classes were interesting. If anything, I liked the fact that she threw in videos (one on the Holocaust, one on Rwanda, and one movie) because she didn't just stick to the textbook. It's true, the text isn't great, but every other teacher who teaches this class uses the same book. Her lectures were organized and even if the material was dull, she made attempts to keep us interested and entertained. She was also always willing to discuss the material in office hours. I would definitely take another class with her, and might in the future.

This has been the most informative techer I have ever had. She is energizing, friendly, and most importantly a great instructor. Her powerpoints were well made and lectures kept your attention through the whole class. She has 2 map quizes and 3 non-cumulative tests. All are easy unless you dont read. Alot of the material is from the book, but also from the lectures. Overall, she is a great teacher. Highly recommended.

Dr. Streiff is such a nice lady. she is really sarcastic and very funny. Make sure to go to class everyday and i would reccommend printing out the slides before you go to class to take notes on. There are two map quizzes and they are easy, it is just memorization of about 80-90 places. I got a 100% on both. Her midterms i found to be really hard, but the nice thing is they are not cumulative. I would get the book and read all the assigned reading just because there is some stuff on the tests that she doesn't have time to cover in class. The material she teaches is really relevant to issues in the world today and SO INTERESTING! I'm not a big history fan, but she definitely makes this class as interesting as possible.

Streiff was an amazing teacher, one of my best at Poly. She tries extremely hard to make every lecture interesting and understandable. She is easy to talk to and goes out of her way to help those who need it. I reccommend taking her for whatever class she is teaching. She lectures on depressing subjects but remains optimistic. If you do the readings and go to class you should do fine on the tests.

If you ever have a chance to take Geog 150 take Meg Streiff!!!! she is a great professor. We had two map quizzes and i think we were tested on 30 out of 80 locations to memorize. Very easy points to earn! Midterms weren't that bad...if you pay attention and take good notes in class and study a lot for the midterms you will get an A. I enjoyed going to class everyday and the things we learned are very interesting and i had a new outlook on the world after this class. Streiff is a funny, sarcastic, witty professor thats not afraid to make fun of you. She is very approachable and friendly! I still see her around campus and say hi! The material is interesting a lot of the time but she doesnt really make it more interesting. She does off quiet one liners all class so sit up front and you will pay attention easily. 3 non cum. midterms which you should study more than you think for. then two map quizzes where you just memorize places she gives you...easy. Perhaps the nicest lady I've ever met. She cares about her students so much and is way passionate about what she teaches. Some of the stuff she talks about is so complex but she likes to relate it to us. Streiff was a great teacher in this cultural geography class. For an 8am class, she was always energetic and engaged the class as best she could (we were the tired ones). She was so excited to see students participate and add their own travel stories and experiences. She\'s very easy to get along with and talk to. The class consists of 2 midterms (50 multiple choice & some short answer), 2 map quizzes (40 things to locate on a map), a final exam (same as midterm), and some short homeworks based on videos. Easy class, especially if you\'re interested in learning about what\'s going on in the Middle East, Africa, etc. She\'s an awesome teacher, would take her again for anything! Thanks

Dr. Streiff was awesome. I thought she was hilarious, and she was always really nice to students. Every day she'd put a bunch of packs of gum on her desk, so we could grab some if we wanted when we got to class. How cool is that? As for teaching, you can tell she's really into geography and wants to make it interesting for you. At the end of class we'd watch a quick video about some random story from around the world. That was nice. Her midterms and finals (non-cumulative) were super fair. They have multiple choice and essays. She even gives you choices for what to do the essays on. For homework assignments, she'd have us watch videos online and then answer some questions. Not too bad. The biggest assignment was the SLO analysis paper, where you have to go downtown, make observations, and then write a couple pages on it. Pretty interesting as far as projects go. GEOG 150 is a pretty good GE choice, and you can't go wrong with Prof. Streiff.

Meg is a great professor! The class has a lot of information and the powerpoints DO NOT help if you do not go to class. I suggest you bring your laptop because she will talk the entire two hours, and for me it was much easier typing my notes. Everything is fair game (including the textbook) on her tests, so you want to have good notes to study from. She will definitely help you if you need it, but attending class is definitely a necessity. Not that there is a problem with that, Meg makes the material very fun and interesting. The map tests (there are two) are pretty easy and there is a project and a few easy homework assignments that boost your grade if you do not do so well on the midterms (two noncumulative midterms and a final). Overall, I had a very positive experience with this professor.

Well, here's the low-down on Meg. She's a great professor, in fact, one of the best I've had. I love her sense of humor too. I'm a 4th year engineering major looking for an easy gen ed class, but I definitely did not find that with Meg's class. I already had a lot of units for the quarter and tacked that class onto my sched, ending up with a B. Anyway, for the two map quizzes, you have to memorize about 110 places on a map, then she tests you on 40 for each quiz. The homework assignments are easy (about 5 worksheets spaced out randomly over 4 weeks or so). She is also super lenient on due dates. There is a 2 page essay also. The tests are not cumulative, but they are freakin' long for a gen ed class. 50 to 60 MC and 5 essays per test. By essay, I mean a good sized paragraph. To sum it up, If you have the time, Take Meg. If you have a full schedule already, take a different GE. Oh Yeah, she gives you gum every class period... Definitely a cool professor... I'd bet she was a little firecracker when she was younger. Prof. Streiff is a great professor. One of the best I've had at Cal Poly. She really takes the time to get to know her students and make her lectures interesting. The map quizzes should be easy points, so make sure to study. Can easily bump you up a letter grade. She gives homework assignments that are easy points too. Geog 150 is not really a fun class, but Streiff made it interesting at times. She is a really funny and nice person and for the most part an entertaining professor. Our class was based on 2 midterms of 60 MC and 5/8 essay questions, 2 map quizzes, 5ish short homework assignments and a final which is just like a third midterm. We ended every day with a video or two, but we never got out early from the 2 hour class. For the homeworks all we had to do was watch videos online and answer the questions, but they were super easy because the answers came straight from exactly what the video was saying. The map quizzes could be tricky because you get a list of about 100 places or features but she only picks 40 to test you on so you have to know them all. The midterms were pretty fair and you get most of the points from the essay questions so make sure you focus on studying for those. She could be confusing sometimes because she would give a really in depth introduction to a topic so i would take notes, but then just go back and talk about it later so i really didnt have to take notes at all. Her powerpoints didn't really have writing on them, it was mostly all pictures. I didnt like that because i am a bad note taker, but if you take good notes it will be fine. She lectured A LOT about depressing subjects and many times i left class feeling sad because of a video we had just watched about sick people in Africa. She posts everything on blackboard and is very lenient on letting you make up quizzes and turn in assignments even over a week late as long as you get it in. And of course she is known for giving out gum every class. Overall a very good teacher and i would definitely recommend her for Geog 150.

Professor Streiff is the most genuine person you'll ever meet. She is very very lenient, so if you have a bad day or two and don't turn in homework, she'll totally understand. This class is a lecture based class, so if you're the type who don't show up to class, you won't do well. Her exams are entirely based on lecture, as long as you take good notes you'll be fine. Exams are 60 MC and 5 essay questions. She gives you about 7-8 questions, you get to pick 5 to write about. She even tells you those essay questions ahead of time so those are guaranteed points. A great G.E. to take if you are into current events. The class largely focuses on relevant issues such as epidemics, terrorism and state control (primarily in Subsaharan Africa and the Middle East). Streiff has a bit of a liberal bias (i.e. favoring Palestinians in Israel conflict; criticizing Trump), but she shows both sides of an issue to make her point. She's also very accommodating for Office Hours. For work, you'll have to watch a documentary every weekend (~hour and a half) and write a short paragraph or two about them. You also have a bit of reading from a custom school textbook and some articles, but I found skimming them a few days before the test seemed to work the best (because a lot of the stuff in the book is covered or similar to stuff from lecture). There are two map quizzes (though she gives you helpful handouts that are similar to the quizzes to help), and she gives the exact essay questions that will be on the upcoming midterms/final (which are not cumulative). Multiple choice questions on these tests don't require you to know specific names or dates, just concepts. Overall a great GE that's manageable and interesting (and there's free gum!).

I’m super Liberal, but if you’re super Conservative I would not take her. She has strong political views and is not afraid to share them with the class. Before I took this class, I thought geography was a boring and useless subject. I couldn't have been more wrong. Meg brings this subject to life, exploring a variety of cultures and current events with passion and energy that made getting up at 7am bearable. Her map quizzes are easy if you study about three-four days in advance. Take a ton of notes in lecture, not only is the subject matter extremely interesting but almost all the questions on the finals are verbatim from the notes. I studied about six hours for the two midterms and final and got high 90s on all of them. The homework is light and interesting, just don't procrastinate on the videos. I loved the way Professor Streiff presented the material. She is extremely passionate about what she teaches. When it came to the readings, it was helpful that she gave us specifically what page numbers to read, so we weren't wasting time on material that we won't learn in class/won't be tested on. Her exams were straightforward and if you did the readings/went to class you would do well on them. For her homework assignments she assigned two movies and we had to respond to them. I thoroughly loved it because it gave another dynamic to the class that wasn't reading out of the book and answering questions, but we got to watch a film that was related to the material we were learning in class. I say the strengths of the class was the efficiency of the readings, the homework assignments, the straightforwardness of her exams, and the teacher!!

I took her class at 7 am in the morning and at first I dreaded waking up in the morning, but after a few classes I loved going her class because she really is amazing. I 100% recommend taking her classes.

She might seem a little spacey....but she really knows her stuff and likes what she teaches. Not a hard class if you just pay attention to lectures and review the book before tests. She is very friendly and relates to students very well.

Meg is one of the best teachers I have ever had. Her character and personality alone is reason to take a class from her. She genuinely cares about her students and recognizes that we aren't just numbers at Cal Poly. Her class is challenging but you will learn so much. I can't express how thankful I am to have had the opportunity to take her classes. Make sure to take a class from Meg before you leave Cal Poly!

Now global geography isn't the most thrilling subject. But Dr. Streiff does a good job presenting the material. At times it is boring, but she does a good job of intermixing lecture with videos. The videos are really interesting. Another good thing, is that she focuses on 3 to 4 regions in depth unlike other professors who will cram in twice that amount. Her tests are challenging, but fair. She is always there to answer any questions. Take advantage of office hours...they can be a big help. I would recommend her for this class or any other geography class.

while it's true that she shows signs of being a new prof., she presents the material well and grades fairly--plus you get out of class early almost everyday.

Dr. Streiff was a very sincere and nice professor. I definitely recomend taking her. Quite a lot of memorization, but taking the class with her is so worth it! She was always willing to sit down and talk to you about the class or anything else. She had a ton of material to present, kind of over whelming, but if you needed help or clarify things she was always willing to help out. I didn't think geography would be a great class but somehow I always looked foward to going to her class.

TAKE THIS PROF. Dr. Streiff is an awesome prof. She gets so excited about the material, you can't help getting stoked, too. I learned sooooo much in this class. It does move quickly, and in order to do well you need to attend class and take notes. She does make her Power Points available on Blackboard, but you need to go to lecture and make your own jnotes in addition. She includes a relevant, interesting video in each lecture that helps yopu better understand what she just told you about. There are about five geographic location tests. but she gives you a list of possible locations a few weeks before the test, and as long as you take the time to memorize them, you are golden. Her multiple choice tests are straight forward and uncomplicated. You are required to turn in three papers, but you can write about ANYTHING geography related, and if you are having trouble getting it done, she is happy to offer extensions. TAKE THIS CLASS, YOU WILL NOT REGRET IT!

Professor Strieff was amazing. She really knew her information and was always open to opinions and concerns on the topics at hand. She doesn't rush through anything, and really gives you the chance to grasp the material. There are 3 short papers you have to write, but she's incredibly flexible with them. You don't even have to turn them in on time and basically you can write about anything you desire (as long as you run it by her). You come out of this class with a new perspective on the world and current political/social issues. And plus, lectures themselves are enjoyable. You watch some type of film/movie every lecture. Basically, Take this class! It's completely worth it!!!!

Awesome teacher! Very passionate about Geography, teaching, and learning. If you get the chance, this is a very easy upper division GE, although you have to write three 5-page research papers.

As many people said, a great teacher! Is willing to work with you if you don't get it. Brings gum to class. Likes to stay update with things going on around the world. She is really passionate about that stuff, especially what is in the New York Times. There are papers that are 5-7 pages but don't let that scare you, they are easy. Map quiz - if you don't like them well she gives a couple of them. I liked them and they helped my grade. Midterms are multiple choice. Take this teacher if you get the chance!

Best teacher I've had at cal poly. The focus is on 4 regions with quizzes and exams. There are also two 7 page research papers due on any topic that interests you from these 4 regions. Streiff is incredibly approachable and works with you if you need help. I've never said this about a teacher before but if you have to/want to take geog 308, it must be with her.

I have never written one of these/even filled out a course eval for a class. I am literally the type of girl that made a yelp acct to hate on rude waiters. But in all my four years Professor Streiff has been the BEST teacher I have ever had. You enjoy this class just because of how passionate and educated she is. She cares about her students so sincerely and jumps through hoops to help you succeed in her class. I have never admired a teacher more in my whole life. You learn so much in this class and she really motivates all of her students to successful in whatever they are passionate about.

By far one of the best professors I've had at Cal Poly!! She knows what she's talking about, and is obviously passionate about the subject matter. She is very approachable and willing to help in any way she can. The tests are pretty detailed, but if you go to class and do the readings it is very straight forward. Dr. Streiff is an awesome professor, and made this one of my favorite classes.

Awesome professor! Easy class. 1 midterm, 1 final (neither cumulative) 3 research papers and 3 reading quizes. Meg loves geography and knows so much about it! She does talk very fast and her lectures are crazy! But if you can keep up and pay attention, easy class. The book is easy to read and you can turn in the 3 papers whenever you have can!

F***ing LOVE this teacher. She is great! She keeps you up to date with current events in class and in her lectures. She speaks really fast and moves very quickly through the material so don’t miss a day. She always shows a video at the end of every lecture take notes because they are on the quizzes and exams. You have three papers 5-7 pages due by the end of the quarter. She allows extensions on the papers but this could be detrimental to you if you’re a procrastinator. All of her test except the first quiz has maps so don’t let the easy points slip through take the time to memorize the locations. I was never disappointed by her she was extremely fair. She also always has gum and when you visit her in her office hours she even a delight to talk with even if it doesn’t pertain to class and she’ll offer you tea! Did I mention I love this professor?
