Well, first off, I'm an AERO major. Flipside of everything this class stands for. That being said, taking her modern dance class has been one of the most amazing experiences here at Poly. So much so that I just had to take her intermediate jazz class. Her raw level of enthusiasm and energy is makes this class more than just a dance class but an experience. The music (while awesome) is completely secondary to the dance and not tied to it. Be prepared to move in ways you would not normally expect to move and ready for a workout. Oh and be prepared to meet the floor. Often. Take her class if you can!

Diana is a great teacher. She is very exciting to work with. She makes the class fun, and really cares about her students. She is all about success and makes sure to let you know where you can fix certain movements, etc. I highly recommend this class.

Diana was a delightful teacher, her jazz dance class was fun and educational. She truly is concerned with the student's well-being and always asks how things are going. In each class she aims to get students to leave their worries behind and focus on dancing, which is pretty cool. The class is pretty straightforward, you learn 3 dances, all of which are performed and evaluated, you take a written quiz on dance basics, you write a paper about a dance concert, and you choreograph a short number (about a minute) to be performed with a group at the end of the quarter. The one challenge I had with this course was that even though it was "beginning jazz dance", many of the dancers were highly skilled... Diana dealt with this by encouraging them to deepen their skills, but also by speeding up the pace of the class to a point that was quite vigorous for beginners. If you just want to learn basics and have a good time, I would encourage you to take this class CR/NC, you will have a lot of fun and not have to worry about the added stress of being graded.

Diana was a very fun teacher. For an 8 am class she was always upbeat. I learned a lot about modern dance that i didn't previously know. she definately tested us but it was never too difficult seeing as it was a beginning class. i highly recommend this class to anyone wanting to try something new and creative!

I took Dance Appreciation (DANCE 221) for GE C3 and I thought the class was pretty good. It was not a very hard GE class and she really loves dance. You pretty much go over lecture notes and watch movies every day. There is a midterm and a final (both of which are pretty easy) and then three papers. The papers are a creative response, critical analysis and research paper on three different dances. She grades pretty easily and doesn\'t expect too much out of you because she knows it\'s a GE and most people don\'t care about dance. She tries to keep you engaged in the material by keeping the lectures interactive, but often I\'d drift off. Overall, not a bad choice for C3 if you can handle watching a lot of dance.

Diana is amazing! She is by far the most understanding teacher I have had at Cal Poly. She is always trying to have everyone receive A\'s! Before the midterm and final, she holds the tests and tells you exactly what to study to be fully prepared for it! Actually caught myself watching a ballet this break b/c of this class. Loved Her!

She is adorable. Whenever she walked in the class my heart warmed because she is the freaking sweetest cutest thing ever! Her class was fun and she makes you step out of your comfort zone a bit which is kinda cool. She is so energetic and understanding, and easy going, and I love her. Her final was hard to study for because there was so much material, but the class is great. She shows lots of clips so that we understand what the dance is all about. If you can, take her.

Dance Appreciation was a fun class and Stanton was a great teacher. The class is not too challenging overall, but you do have to write a couple papers and there are tests. But I definitely learned some new things about dance and it was fun getting to watch a lot of videos. If you want a fun GE that\'s not too stressful take this class. The only downside is that it\'s really hard to get into cause there are like 30 spots and it\'s required for dance minors.

DIANA ROCKS!! Such a fun, easygoing, enthusiastic teacher who teaches entertaining material. Dance appreciation was such a great class to go to everyday because it was not just lecture notes-- it was truly a Learn By Doing class where we got to stand up and occasionally learn dance moves. If you need a C3, take this class!

I highly recommend taking this class! It is very interesting and Diana always makes things so entertaining and fun. She is very knowledgable on the subject and is very prepared for class. This is probably the best GE class you can take at Cal Poly. Loved this class.

I ended up in this class for GE and was a little worried about it at first. It turned out to be my favorite class of the quarter! Diana is a great teacher and I loved going to her class. She makes the material interesting and it was great to have a teacher who so clearly loves what she is teaching!

Diana was an excellent teacher. If you are looking for a challenging dance class this is great. She not only makes it difficult enough for advanced dancers, but she also really helps beginning dancers, and makes them feel very comfortable as well. She really knows what she is talking about when it comes to movement. Overall great course!

I have been dancing my entire life and I signed up for this class thinking it would be an easy A for an elective; however, I soon discovered that this class would be more than just that. It was certainly challenging in many instances for me because she really grades you on how much experience you've had coming into the class, so she adjusts her grading for the level that you're at when you begin the course. This was very helpful because my class consisted of many different levels although it was an "intermediate" dance class. Diana is a very devoted, well-versed instructor and knows the human body well. The class was not only fun, but also very informative. I became close with the other students and she even helped me improve my own dancing in many ways emotionally and physically. I love Diana Stanton and I think everyone should take this class!

One of the Best dance teachers I have had, her modern class is very physical and her style utilizes upper body strength which I personally enjoy. She will let you adjust according to your body type and will help you all she can, not a class you can skate in but as long as you come and do your best she'll do hers as well.

Diana cares a lot about her students. She really commits herself to opening the dancers' minds and getting you to challenge yourself. She treats the dancers more like friends than students. Be prepared to have a pretty intense warm up. It's a good work out! The across the floor combos are a lot of fun because they get you moving and she picks out great music. The class is easy to pass. Make sure to execute the dances (practicals) perfectly, and make the corrections that she points out in class. There are 2 practicals, a paper, and a group or solo choreographic assignment. Make sure to attend every class. If you don't think you can do that, CR/NC is a great option.

Diana is a nice, caring lady, who knows more about dance than theatre. I took this class hoping it would be theatrical, and was disappointed. However, the class was enjoyable and I learned a lot about myself physically. The class involves 2 small tests, a final performance, a performance essay, and small assignments. All work in this class was super easy, and I don't think I missed a point on anything. You just have to go to class to do well.

Diana is amazing! I have been dancing with her for all three of my years here at Cal Poly and she is always pushing me to become the best dancer I can be. This class really allows you to explore your creative side without the fear of ever being judged. If you love choreographing or have the desire to learn how then Diana is the perfect professor to do that with!
