This was a beginning programming class, and having very little programming experience I was a little nervous about it, but came out alright. There's a few homework assignments throughout the quarter with a midterm, final, and a project with a partner. The midterm and final are the same, some mul. choice questions, some short answer, and 2 programs you have to write. The group project wasn't too hard, just time consuming, don't wait till the last minute and you'll be fine. Kevin is pretty laid back, if you have questions at anytime feel free to ask him.

I've never had programming experience before this class, and my major is completely unrelated to programming or computer science. Yet, I was able to do every assignment, project, and exam given to me because Kevin was such a technologically-articulate teacher. I'm not saying he's a programming genius, because he did have some obvious flaws in his computer logic. But, he did make the basics of programming easy to learn and visualize -- even for a non-programmer. He's one of the least intimidating teachers I've had so far, and this has been one of the least intimidating non-major related course I've had.

READ THIS PAY ATTENTION TO FINAL Kevin was super chill all quarter but things got a little wierd. This entire class came down to the final, which everyone was not nearly as well prepared for as the mid term. Practice problems were given on a study guide for the midterm but NOT the final. The final was MUCH MUCH MUCH MUCH harder than anything we had done. Major twist in the class. More than half the class was there through the full 3 hours. This guy was super chill all quarter then pulled this out of no where.

The class was super easy. The midterm was easy, but then came the final and it was insanely hard. He did not prepare the class for the final nearly as well as the midterm. I would recommend to take the class just make sure that you study your ass off for the final.

This class was hard, mostly math and stat problems. But he\'s a good teacher and explained things very well. So it wasn\'t too bad. I did terrible on the midterm because I didn\'t have time to prepare. He told us to expect the final to be more difficult, so I worked my butt off to study. I guess I did ok and ended up with a B+.

Kevin is a nice teacher but he doesn\'t update grades as frequently as he should nor does he respond to emails as frequently as he should. Come midterm time (not to mention finals time) I got really stressed out and annoyed that he wouldn\'t answer any of my emails and after 3 sent emails in a span of about 5ish days, he responded to me but I decided to go to his office hours to see if he\'d be a little more helpful and he said the exact same thing to me as he did in his email, which might I add was VERY general and not much help in the first place. this subject is already boring and just listening to him not use time productively felt like a waste of my time.

This is the second class I took with him. He\'s a good teacher, but his exams are not easy although not impossible. He taught us a lot of useful stuff in Excel. I\'d take his class again.

Nice guy and a decent teacher. There was a lot of math and stat in this class, though. His exams weren\'t that difficult, but he had one exam question that was really hard, the rest wasn\'t bad.

Kevin is a great addition to Cal Poly. He's super nice and super cool. He goes over everything you would need to know and gives time to practice and follow along. I wish I had this guy for more than just 390...Best of luck to you Kevin. We are glad you chose Cal Poly!!!

Kevin is a very intelligent man and he knows how to convey the information clearly and concisely. His examples are well suited for those whom come from varied backgrounds CS/Business. His lectures are filled with subtle jokes that he throws in and if you're listening you will crack up. Hopefully, you'll be in a class that's engaged in learning and not surfing. He is the BEST MIS professor in the dept. If you've struggled with Queues, Stacks and Linked Lists in the past then prepare yourself to be enlightened. He is always prepared and can answer any question you throw at him.

Kevin is the best teacher in IS. Period. He's always willing to answer your questions and he wants to make sure everyone understands the material before he goes on. He's also super nice outside of class whenever you need help. As a programming class, a lot of the learning is obviously done by programming yourself but he'll help you as much as he can if you simply ask. His midterms and tests were as I expected and he doesn't throw anything way too difficult at you. Do the final project before the final exam because for us, the final exam problem was almost the same as the project.

Kevin is a great professor and always well prepared for class. However his project and exams are difficult. I wish he would let us choose how much the project and each exam counts for our final grade.

Kevin will do all he can to help you, go bug him in his office hours for help he's more than willing to do all he can. Very understanding and practical. He posts all lecture notes on blackboard in powerpoint. there is a few homework assignments(you get a week to do) mid term, final and a quarterlong group project that uses a little bit of everything you cover in the class. Overally, I really did enjoy this class. Glad Kevin is at Calpoly.

I think Bus-391 is going to be a BS class no matter who your professor is--especially if you have anykind realworld work experience. This means that it doesn't really matter who you take, but my guess would be that Kevin is probably the best guy. The material is simple and straightforward and Kevin is more than willing to help. The lectures are boring, but you have a computer to surf the web if you can't stand it. The term project is time consuming, but not hard. Just do your project throughout the term. Great guy, boring material.

Kevin is really awesome! He goes at a good pace and it is very easy to ask questions or approach him at office hours. From what I heard from other friends, I was so glad to have Kevin and learn some useful things about Excel and stuff rather than be stressed and confused. The midterms would have questions about the chapters he goes over (wishy washy marketing stuff) and a portion of Access or Excel that you had to complete. He is very clear about what will be on the tests, so no worries. The group project is maangable, and if you go to his office hours, he will help you fix any problems you come across. Kevin is a great professor and the work load is very fair.

Read the material, do some of the practice exercises in the workbook, and start on the project early. It isn't a difficult class as long as you do the work. Make sure you finish the project early so you don't run into issues with it later on during finals week. It also helps doing it early on while the access lectures are still fresh in your head.

I took a similar class in junior college and still found the material quite difficult (mainly with Microsoft Access). He has homework assignments almost every week and he grades very hard. I had many nights where I was pulling my hair out because I could not make something work on the homework. Make sure you do everything absolutely correct on these assignments as this is the reason I got a B in the course rather than an A. The project is not as bad as everyone else made it out to be. Between my partner and me, it took us about six hours each. Pay close attention to the study guides for the tests (two worth 25% each) as the questions are verbatim from the test. Also, read and re-read the articles he assigns as it is a large portion of the test. As for Kevin, he is a good teacher. He is a little dorky, though who isn’t a little bit dorky themselves. And while his lectures may be a little boring, you always have the computer in front of you for entertainment. All in all, I would take him again in a heartbeat.

Professor Kevin is a fairly good professor. The lectures are not very interesting, but you must pay attention to learn the Microsoft programs. As far as tests: He gives an exam information sheet before the midterm and the final which outlines what will be covered on the exam. The multiple-choice exam questions are almost exactly the same as the information sheet. Exams also had short-answer-essay questions which are based on conceptual (usually) items from the information sheet. The hardest part of the exam is the computer portion, which consists of questions to work in Access or Excel. On both exams there were a few really tough sections, but as long as you understand what he does in class you should be ok. I also suggest working the extra computer problems that he posts on blackboard and reading the PowerPoint lectures. He also teaches computer programming so he tends to look at information systems from a programmers perspective rather than an introductory perspective which can make it a little more difficult. Also, Warning: Access is hard to understand and the term-project takes much longer than he says it will. The term project can actually be fun if you start early enough. He is also very helpful at office hours and grades in a straight forward manner. Do the homework! There are only 5 or 6 assignments and they make up 10% of the overall grade.

This class is heavily weighed on one midterm, one final and one group project. His tests are very short, so you can either get a really good grade or a really bad one. For the most part the class is easy and straightforward but a lot of his questions are verbatim from the slides and readings so even though they seem pointless, study those a lot. Overall, an okay professor for this class.

Kevin is an amazing professor! The midterm is worth 25%, the final is worth 25%, attendance is 5%, homework is 10%. There is a group (two person) project that is worth 35% of your overall grade. The Access portion is 20%, the Excel portion is 10%, and the website is worth 5%. Attendance is mandatory! Go and pay attention! Sometimes it is hard to keep up. I would definitely suggest sitting towards the front of the class so that you can see the screen and his lecture will be audible. Sometimes he goes through things really quickly but you have to absorb all of it and understand it because it will be on the tests. Ask questions if you do not understand! He is very friendly and willing to help in office hours! Dr. Lertwachara is amazing! Take him if you get the chance!

Every single class, Kevin would demonstrate problems on Excel and Access or go over powerpoints. Honestly, I did not read the textbook unless I needed clarity, which can probably be done on google. Reading the powerpoints will suffice in terms of studying for his midterm and final--which were frankly quite easy. He is very helpful during office hours and cares about his students. Homework and class assignments are very doable as long as you pay attention, even though you may be tempted to surf the web. Just try and listen, even though the material can be dry and confusing. This class was the bomb, and I would totally recommend this professor.

Easy class taught by a wonderful instructor. Kevin is a great and extremely qualified instructor for this course. Every class, he goes through powerpoints and examples on MS Access and Excel. I'll admit that the powerpoints material was really boring and torturous to pay attention to, especially when you have a computer right in front of you...but if you try to pay attention, study, and do the project, you will do absolutely great. He gives out helpful study guides for his exams, and there are in class assignments, so you really need to go to class. Like the person below, I never bothered to read the textbook unless I needed clarity. However, I still learned an immense amount of material from the course. Anyone with the chance to take his class should definitely do so.

Professor Lertwachara is a very good professor and lectures very clearly. He does however add a lot of extra information in his powerpoint slides that I personally felt weren't necessary. Most days he'll lecture off his slideshows for the first hour, then teach us the formulas and functions in microsoft access and excel in the second hour. Sometimes he isn't very helpful when you have questions because he limits the information that he will allow himself to tell you. There is one midterm that is like 10-15 multiple choice, 3 free response, and then the rest of the test going on the computers and working with the software. The final is the same format and is not cumulative. There is a final project but it's not terribly hard and should really be just a grade booster. Homework is easy.

Kevin is an asset to the IS department. He is a great professor in every aspect. He is always available at his office hours and willing to go out of his way to assist with a problem. He utilizes class time to its fullest. He presents the materials in a clear manner, and doesn't rely on PowerPoint or lazy presentation materials. If you have the chance to take any class with him, do it!

I really don't understand how anyone gives Kevin a bad review. Truly one of the best professors I have had here at Cal Poly, and definitely the best in the Information Systems department. Each lecture was incredibly well organized and clear, with every class beginning with a recap of the most recent material. Homework was not too bad and very useful for keeping up with the topics, and the final project helped a lot with the written final itself. Apart from that Kevin is also just a really great guy, always friendly and willing to help out with anything. I wish he taught more classes!
