He's a really nice guy and a great teacher. I enjoyed his sense of humor. There is a large homework load however, but no tests, and he can be harshly critical of your drawings if he can tell you don't spend time on them... I think he's the only guy besides O'Hara who teahces this class but I've heard great things about her too so good luck with whoever you get! Hope this helps.

Being a student of Joe's was an interesting experience...he presents new material pretty well and demonstrates everything clearly. He is pretty easy going and even tries to talk like us (which can be rather...weird). You do a whole lot of drawing in this class and you'll probably get sick of how much crap you have to draw. As the quarter progresses, you'll have more and more and more drawings you have to complete (he usually gives you a week to two weeks to complete your assignments) and if you procrastinate, you're screwed because you can't really BS anything in this class, Joe will know.

The drawing assignments for this class where organized and progressed logically. Joe was readily available outside class, but few students took the opportunity. While he noticed when (and where) someone gave up on a drawing, he was very respectful and tasteful in critics. Overall nice guy. Just don't slack off and you should be fine.

Can you say cocky. This guy, Joe, talks as if he owns his own firm, is the prinicpal LA and invented the greenroof. Let's be real, he's no Omar. He criticizes, but not constructively, so no hlep there. He wears tight jeans to class... and he tends to pronounce things oddly. He is a weird dude, but defintely take him once for the "Ragsdale Experience." #YOLO

Joe Ragsdale is the type of professor to inspire students to pursue their ideas. He is very encouraging and also informative. I would definately take his class again!

Joseph is very nice, he has a warmth of character. The first Pod walk was the hardest. Things get a little easier. We have take-home midterm and final which give you a week early before the break to travel.

Ragsdale is absolutely one of the best professors in the LA department at Cal Poly (or anywhere else). His grades are based on effort, quality, and your willingness to change and make your project the best it can be. Most professors in the LA department grade based off of how much bs you can spew out during a review, while ragsdale makes sure you know what your talking about and present a clear and concise idea. Helpful reviews, good projects, leaves you alone to get work done and doesn\'t waste your time. Did I mention he\'s awesome?

first of all, Joe Ragsdale is a Hunk of Burning Love. all biases aside, he's a great guy and a great prof. Very motivational and encouraging. He holds you accountable and treats you like an adult (which is nice). he is open to new ideas and abstract thought and is happy to allow you to explore these things in your designs. he is very big on the independent study thing, i.e. he can be a little distant.. so I have found you sometimes have to hound him to get feedback, but if you can catch him when he's not busy, he can be quite insightful/helpful. again: Hunk of Burning Love

One of the few legit LA profs at Cal Poly. While most teachers are either awful or fairly benign, Joe actually has is shit together and knows how to direct students. If you have an opportunity to take any of his classes, do, you won\'t regret it. He is also one of the best teacher to get a recommendation from, so always make the extra effort. He can wind up being a really good peer.

It is rare to have a professor inspire a student and allow that student to recognize their potential. Joe has done this with every student he comes in contact with. Joe is one in a million and when you have the chance to take him don't let it pass by, you will not regret it. Joe gives positive feedback, even if your project sucks. He consistently can be reached by all students. He treats others how he expects to be treated in return, which is courteous and respectful. Now that being said don't piss him off, we want him to stay for a while! He is a leader, innovator, demonstrator, not a procrastinator, and one hell of a model American. Thank you for being you.
