Wayne obviously is a really smart guy and knows a lot about the AGB industry. However he CANNOT communicate any of this to students. Course was poorly structured and it was nearly impossible to follow where you were in the syllabus. Take course with another prof if possible. Oh, and half of his sentences begin with "Back in Canada..." which is funny but gets old.

This guy is horrible! He will simply blow off grading homework assignments just because he doesn't feel like it! He doesn't care if you succeed and is not helpful at office hours. Avoid him at all costs.

Howard has been one of my favorite AGB professors by far; he's super nice, supportive, and chill. He relates to his students by using alcohol-related examples which I will always remember. You can tell he generally has a good time teaching which helps. The class is pretty straight-forward, he posts all the powerpoints online, but I highly suggest going to class so you don't get behind and can participate in the group worksheets that help a lot. Homework is due once or twice a week, doesn't take very long but it helps for points and for tests to do it. 2 midterms and a final. I went to his office hours a couple times for questions and they were generally very helpful. It is a microecon class basically so just put in the effort, study hard for the midterms, and you will do just fine because he wants you to succeed. I definitely recommend taking this class with Howard because he is great and super smart even though he doesn't show it.

Dr. Howard is a great professor. He presents the material clearly and uses interesting examples to help you understand. He does move fast so make sure you pay attention in class and GO! even when you don't want to. You learn a lot and the information is very straightforward. It's basically an overview of micro/macro econ but focusing on the food and fiber system. There are 2 midterms and 1 final. Multiple choice and some short answer. There is homework which can make a difference in your grade if you do most of them. I would definitely recommend this course, you learn tons of info and Dr. Howard is a great lecturer!

Dr Howard wasn't hard nor easy. He keeps you a little busy with homework but they were generally straight forward. There were 2 midterms and a final. I would definitely recommend him.

Howard is a smart teacher, his lectures are very interesting to listen to. He has been teaching this certain class the same way for too long, he assumes students understand the information and don't bother to buy the book besides one or two homework assignments being from it, you can just go to the library and check it out! His midterms & final afe very hard, so do well on the homework. The two midterms are 10 true/false, multiple choice and a few short answer. He will tell you to just study the homework and do not go over anything else... Go over the power points and other materials. His final is a smack in the face, majority of it is material from midterm 1 because everyone does so poorly on it. Multiple times during the course I asked for help and he refused to help me. For the final he passes out a page review study guide, more than half of the material presented on the review guide was not on the final. Do not take this class with this teacher.

Much Like Wayne Gretzky, his name is Wayne. He did live in Canada. But he is not the Great One... or great... or good ... or even decent. What I'm getting at is he sucks at teaching. But I guess the other 212 professor sucks too so good luck.

Howard didn't make it very clear what he expected us to know. Come exam time I didn't understand half the material, and the required text for this course doesn't present the material in a manner thats easy to follow. I went to office hours almost every week for help and still ended up getting a D. Take this class with another professor if you can.

Professor Howard was easily the worst professor I had at Poly freshman year. He lectures fast, seeming not to care if the class understands what he's saying or not. The textbook is out of date and difficult to understand. Good luck knowing what will be not on the exams because he doesn't give you a good idea. Take this class from a different professor.

Mr Howard is a very cool guy and a pretty good teacher. I would't be stressed out by all the negative ratings and I'm a little surprised his score is as low as it is. His teaching style is pretty straight forward but there are times when he won't explain something in the clearest manner. With that being said I still enjoyed his class and the work load wasn't nearly as brutal as some other econ teachers. Study hard for midterms and final and you should get a good grade. Also for whatever reason he doesn't give plusses or minuses. This worked out in my favor because I would've gotent a B- but ended up with a B; but some of my other friends were pissed because they should've gotten a a higher grade.

Great Professor! Very Reasonable Guy(except when in comes to cell phones) I greatly enjoyed this class. 80% of your grade is from tests though, 20% homework. Highly Recommended!!

This man should not be a professor working with college students. I went through very hard family issues this quarter and missed a midterm by an HOUR because of a delayed flight, and he would not give me the time of day to retake it. He did not care about anything I was going through or any reasons for struggling students, and when I begged him for some forgiveness on my grade he pulled up my records and told me I deserve to fail out of Cal Poly. Have never been talked down to like this man talked to me. He is past the point of a below-average professor, he is not nice human being.

Howard is a pretty average teacher. He always lets you out of class early and just lectures his powerpoints on his polylearn. He doesn't ever put in grades so you don't know your grade till the end of the quarter. His lectures are pretty boring and he makes alcohol references alot. Nice guy but an average teacher. His two test are very hard so make sure to study.

I studied for hours (not kidding) and got a C in the class. Honestly I'm surprised I passed. The final exam was harder than the AP tests I didn't study for in high school. He assigned homework and is pretty picky about how you do the problems. If you think you deserve more credit on the written parts of an exam, ask him!! He talks about his experiences in Canada a lot. I liked him as a person, but I think I deserved a higher grade for how much work I put in. I HEAR HE'S BETTER THAN THE OTHER AGB 212 PROF

Super average professor. The lectures were fine, if you take notes and do all the assignments you can get a decent grade in the class. Its pretty clear he thinks he's really smart and experienced and for the most part he is, there were some times, however, that he said things that were assumptions or just straight up false. Other than that it was fine. Honestly a super forgettable class.

To give credit where it's due, Howard is a smart guy. He has a lot of experience in his field and has had a genuinely interesting career. As a teacher, though, I would rank him as awful. He runs through his powerpoints quickly and doesn't explain things very clearly, which is rough if you haven't taken an econ class before. Also, the guy's handwriting is trash, his graphs are sloppy, and he uses different symbols for the same variable seemingly just to confuse us. However, if you go to every class and take good notes, and study for the exams ahead of time, you'll probably be fine. Personally on the other hand, I would avoid this guy like the plague. He clearly plays favorites, and isn't helpful during office hours, unless you come with a direct question about a specific topic. We got off on the wrong foot at the beginning of the quarter, and even though I put in the effort for the class, I feel like he didn't respect me as a student and would not shake my hand. Bottom line, the class is decent, the lecturer is not.

This is the first time he taught a class in 5 years. He admitted it the first day of class. His lectures were alright, his tests were insane. He means well, kind of funny at times, but no matter how long I studied, his questions were ridiculously tough. EVERYONE I've talked to said this class should have been easy, one of the easiest AGB classes actually. He assigns a 7-10 page individual term paper on a commodity. Every other professor for this class assigns a paper half the length and with teams/groups. We didn't even get play the Futures Market game that I was looking forward to all quarter. The final was 40% of our grade. The term paper was 20%. There was no homework or anything else to even out your grade if you didn't do so well on the midterm. Take this course with ANYONE but him. He's better off going back to being the department head and sitting behind a desk than teaching.

If you want to learn more about Howard's life than the actual material, then this is the class for you. He spends about 30 min talking about the material you need to know, and the other hour and a half is full of "When I was living in Canada...". While it may be interesting and keeps you awake, it does nothing to prepare you for his tests. He purposefully words some of the questions on the midterm in order to trick you so 95% of the class gets them wrong. My advice, avoid him. Even if you go to his office hours, he has the attitude that every question you ask is a stupid question. He assigns 2 papers that are double as long as the other professors. Although in all the mess, there is something good that comes from him. He gives extra credit for running a 5 or 10k.

Great Professor. He knows what he's talking about. The book isn't really necessary... He gets off on tangents and tells stories during class which keeps it interesting. I recommend him over that crazy german lady!

Professor Howard is a very dry lecturer. He is a nice man, however, all he does for 2 hours is read the slides to us. His stories are interesting, but he tends to forget what he talks about so he'll repeat the same story multiple times in a period. It is hard to know where you grade stands in the course, because there is one midterm, 1-3 quizzes, 2-3 homework assignments that he returns to us. However, there are 2 papers that are worth 30% of your grade and they are due at the end of the quarter. He does not return them before the final, so it makes it hard to know your grade. He also does not post grades on polylearn. I'm sad to say it is probably time for Howard to retire. I have never had an issue with spacing in classes. But this class is the exception because it is extremely boring.

Wayne is not a Finance professor so he was quite lenient about teaching over summer. Tests were not too bad. I'd recommend taking it over summer if you plan on getting other classes out of the way during the year.

Dr. Howard is a good teacher. He understands a students difficulty with math/calculus because he used to be horrible at it himself. He expects students to work hard and read all given material before approaching him with questions, but overall I recommend him over anyone else I have heard about for 313. Unlike Hurely and McDougal, he does not give you any sort of notes or cheat sheet for the test. However, this tactic is excellent for building your confidence, making you study, and allowing you to realize how much more you know than you think you do. If you have the chance, take Howard... I do not think you will be disappointed.

Where to start... I didnt like this instructor at first because he isnt willing to help his students with questions - but I found that he is a reasonable guy if you put your best into your work. Dont expect him to be very nice when it comes to answering a question...he might just tell you to go sit back down and figure it out, but he is a nice person outside the classroom...what happen to the teacher-student relationship in the class? Overall he is an ok teacher

Howard is honestly a overall great guy. It saddens me to see his polyrating so low because he is a genuinely nice professor, but I also greatly understand students frustrations. He does not know how to teach very well or portray information to his students. It seems he knows more fun facts about random things rather than actual information on the course. The material itself is VERY easy, at least it was to me. A lot of the time it seemed like common sense 101 with a couple random equations and rules. Its basically a ton of budgets and ways to manage a business. The class is made up of 1 midterm, a group project, a final and homework and labs. His lectures are boring and he usually doesn't actually tell you much more than is on the slides. If you make a quizlet while he is lecturing it will save you time. The labs are pointless and are pretty much an hour of the entire class trying to figure out what the hell is going on, but eventually you figure it out. The project is easy but very strange and his expectations aren't clearly spelt out which makes it difficult but overall its honestly an easy class. I put minimal effort into it and ended up with an A-. Take the class, you will get a good grade, just expect to be frustrated a great deal of the time

Great teacher! I have him again for 322 and the class is going great. I highly recommend this teacher. Pay attention in class and study for the tests. Tests will be very difficult if you skip class and don't pay attention. He tests a lot from lecture and very little, but some, from the reading.

This class was very informative and pretty interesting. Dr. Howard presents the material in a pretty interesting way through powerpoints and some online activities in the lab. This class was a fair amount of work with all of the reading from the textbook and the weekly assignments. The lab assignments aren't all that bad, they are just practice for the midterm and final, but they do take a bit of time. Be prepared to read the chapters in the textbook as they help immensely on tests and on the final project. The midterm was fairly difficult and requires that you study pretty hard for it. The test is all short answer and some of the questions were challenging. The final project was a ton of work. I didn't realize how much work it was going to be. Get into a good group and one that regularly sets meetings and actually finishes their work on time. My group did very well meeting up, but we procrastinated on getting the work done and it was very hard and stressful to finish the project on time. There is a lot of research and writing to complete the project so start early and set up a schedule for yourself. Our project turned out to be around 20 pages of writing and another 15 of figures and tables. The final was pretty difficult and required a lot of study. There is a lot of information covered on the final so go over all of your notes and practice some of the lab exercises to be prepared for a few number calculation questions. Overall, the class was informative, but it was also a lot of work. Get started early on the group project and you should be fine.
